    Default Genghis Grill coming

    Anyone know about this restaurant?

Genghis Grill to open new Dallas restaurants

This Restaurant chain Genghis Grill has announced plans to expand its chain of corporate-owned and franchise restaurants by opening new locations in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.

In Dallas, approximately eight new corporate-owned locations are planned.

San Antonio is expected to get about seven corporate-owned Genghis Grill restaurants, while 17 franchise locations are planned for Houston, Austin, Oklahoma City and Tulsa in the next 36 months.

The restaurant chain, which is based on Mongolian stir fry cooking, offers clients’ interactive dining experiences by having servers cook dishes "live" in front of guests.

Dallas-based Genghis Grill is partnering with commercial real estate firm J&B Commercial LLC to find suitable locations in local central business districts or retail and entertainment areas that feature 3,000 to 3,500 square feet of space.

I've had it acouple of times in Dallas. It's OK, nothing to get jazzed about, but also something slightly different than what we have in OKC right now... I'll go back to it.

I think this would be a nice addition for OKC. I reside in Dallas and I am a former OKC resident. Every vist I have been at Genghis has been great. Fresh, healthy food, fun concept. Something new for OKC people, but then again, I know how picky OKC folks are with their restaurants. If it does not have fat, lard and grease then OK Cityans probably will not support it. (LOL).

i also am in the same boat, having relocated here to the dfw metroplex in 2006. i know its off the subject, but im largely curious to this statistic as it seems theres been a large okie influx to dfw in the past 5 years (especially with the collapse of the gm plant)

the transient traffic along the I-35 corridor stretching 141 miles from norman to denton (and vice versa) has steadily increased over the recent years, especially on weekends when family members visit those on the other side of the red river.

there are some texans transplants to the sooner state, but i feel the ratio is far greater for those okies who have since called the lone star state their new home.

Sounds like something we don't have, for sure. But 7 locations in SA alone? That sounds like oversaturation for something like this.

The patrons are put through the line in the style of Pei Wei...it's not purely a sit-down restaurant.

I think it's totally solid; I didn't mean my initial post to sound so apathetic. Like I said; I'll go back. It's pretty straightforward mogolian BBQ with a nicer array of meat selections than you might get at a typical random asian joint.

I saw in the TW about 2 weeks ago that GG construction has started in Tulsa and is scheduled to be open by Sept?? if I remember right. It is a sure thing in Tulsa and according to the website OKC is still on their radar list.

I'm always skeptical when I see these things on websites. Often it's more a wish to expand - they're hoping to get people interesting in paying to start up a franchise location. Not saying that's the case here, but ...
For example, still waiting on Alamo Draft House Theater and Fudruckers to open here (both portrayed here and elsewhere as real deals). There's many more.
Folks, it's easy to copy and paste from websites. It's another thing entirely to determine "ok, is this shopping center a real deal?" or "is this restaurant chain serious about coming to town or are they fishing?"

I believe it is scheduled around the Midtown Brookside area. I'll try to go back and see if I can post the article.

We really enjoyed Genghis in Dallas. I'd love to see it here soon. Have they projected any actual dates yet?

Maybe it can be explained by people believing, rightly or otherwise, that the grass is always greener, and the politicos a bit less partisan, on the other side of the fence.

genghis grill is nothing really to get excited over. its cool when you go there a few times, after that the excitement wears thin.

you can follow their posted recipes to create one of their dishes or concoct your own creation. the problem is, is that, unless youre exceptionally skilled in the culinary arts, you could run into the possibility of mixing up a few ingredients that dont set well with your tastebuds..or accidentally adding in to much of one spice and not enough of the other, etc.

I honestly did not like it..

    I like traditional Mongolian BBQ

GG is very commercial and bland. Too many choices that dont make any sense. We refuse to go to them since we found a better one in OKC at the Golden Palace Buffet lol which is weird.

Looks like it might be coming to Moore

    http://www.newsok.com/qa-with-deidre...dline_business

Q: What other new stores are coming to the area? Can we expect anything new to be open in time for holiday shopping?

A: In the Shops at Moore, anchored by J.C. Penney, there are several new retailers opening this fall including Rue 21, Sally Beauty and Ooh La La (an accessories store.) Hobby Lobby will open in that same development in April. The center is leasing well and an additional 12,000 square feet of small shop space will be ready for occupancy in about 90 days. Stores that have opened there — J.C. Penney, Sephora, Justice, Bed Bath and Beyond, to name a few — are all performing very well. The developers have done a great job and are seeing the fruits of their labor. Discussions with a Mongolian stir fry restaurant, Genghis Grill, have been ongoing and look favorable for a location in this development.

I was in Tulsa a few weeks back, and saw the Genghis Grill going up on 15th Street, I think, and they were hiring, maybe. It will be great to check out, and then if it is successful there, wonderful to open in the OKC area.

Shh....don't give the Tulsans on this thread to much noise, or they'll start bragging how they're getting Genghi's Grill before OKC...On second thought, let them give us something else to laugh at.

    Another chain.

    Hooray?

  23. Default Re: Genghis Grill coming

Chains, in and of themselves, aren't bad. Their introduction can indicate growth in an area. It's if the chains are your ONLY choice that it's bad...and we've come a long way in just the past 5 years in that regard, IMO.
