Default Do I need an Opening Night wristband to go to the Flaming Lips show?

I know I need a separate ticket (which I have) to see the show, but that's all I need, if I just want to see the Lips, right? I don't need a separate Opening Night wristband to get in to the show, do I?

And the wristband is just for the indoor events, right? I don't need one to see the ball raising and fireworks, correct?

    Thanks in advance. . .

(Sorry for all the questions--it's been years since I've gone to an Opening Night.)

You do not need a wristband for the lips show. As far as the fireworks and stuff outside I don't believe you need a wristband for that either but not positive.

correct Matt, the wristband is for the other indoor Opening Night activities, the Lips concert is just like any other concert at Cox Center, you just need a ticket.

Matt, The Starlight Mints are playing in one of the halls at the Cox Center and you need a wristband to see them. Lots of the FLips crowd will be there before the show.

ksearls - A lot of people have been asking the question about the outdoor activities. Do they need wristbands for those?

also, there is some confusion as to when the lips play amoung my friends. The Allied Arts website says they start at 9pm, but my buddies wife says that the tickets say 7pm?

You do not need a wristband for the outdoor activities (ball drop, fireworks, kerr park)

The FLips are scheduled to go on at 9, Star Death and White Dwarfs (Wayne's nephew) are the warm-up band. Starlight Mints are at 7:30 in Exhibit Hall E.

I just picked up a couple of tickets at the Ford Center box office this morning ... they are not great tickets (Section 432) but at $15 per ticket and at this late hour, who's complaining! It ought to be a hoot! There apparently are still some tickets available.

Does anyone know if there is a policy one way or another about taking video cameras tonight?

Doug you can call the arts council if someone doesn't reply today. I know they are having sound checks and stuff right now so they might all be busy - but give them a call at 270-4848. or 23-NIGHT.

I'm finally leaving work - yay! Just wanted to remind you all to be safe tonight. Remember tipsy tow is in service. They tow up to 15miles free and take you with your car. 1-800-AAA-help.

Also remember they have free trolley service downtown and the underground is open too. Don't walk in the cold if you don't have to! Save the cold for the outdoor activities.

I'm sort of bummed .. Why does it have to be so cold tonight!?

I talked myself out of going tonight because I'm a huge wimp and can't stand the cold.

I've gone in the past few years and it was pretty cool to see the ball and the fireworks.

I walked out this afternoon and the temp was 47 degrees... then the freezing wind hit me and it was all over! (yeah, yeah, I'm from California and I'm a huge crybaby wimp when it comes to cold weather ... )

Then I thought, okay, I can do this.. Then I checked the forecast again:

"Anyone heading to Opening Night for New Year's music, dancing and fireworks might want to consider bundling up as if the temperatures were going to be in the mid-teens, because according to The National Weather Service, that's what it will feel like.

With a low in the mid-20s, it's not going to be the coldest night of the year, but National Weather Service meteorologist Ty Judd said the wind chill will make it feel like the temperature is in the teens.

On Dec. 23, Judd said, the Oklahoma City metro area reported temperatures as low as 14 degrees, but 15 mph winds may make New Year's Eve feel a lot colder tonight than it actually is.

"We've got some pretty cold air pushing through and it should be cold for the next couple of nights," Judd said. "So anyone planning on going out for New Year's may want to go ahead and bundle up and keep a heavy jacket on."

Oklahoman's will be relieved to know, however, there is no chance of precipitation, which Judd said, means there is also no chance for any ice accumulation.
"And it's going to be a clear night, and should be pretty good viewing for fireworks," he said. "It’s just going to feel really cold."

So... back to wimpy, wimpy, wimpy... I'm staying home, playing RockBand with the family and then sitting in front of the fireplace with a hot toddy, a hot hubby and bringing in the New Year ...

(I hope people are smart enough to bundle up those kiddies)

But for you diehards, have fun everyone!!

And I agree with kmf153, please, please be safe tonight!

    Happy New Year Everyone!!!

    Thanks all for your responses.

For those in attendance, look out for me in Section 429--I'll be the white guy with brown hair.

    See you at the show!
