Default Devon Energy Centennial Holidy Boat Parade

I am surprised no one has posted about this event. It was great fun for all with live bands, fireworks and the lighted boats really outdid themselves.

I am curious if anyone else on the board went and what they thought.

Wish I would have taken pictures!

I went with a few of my friends...
We felt as if there wasnt as many ppl as last yr.. The boats were good especially the Devon Boat (one of the boats that are going to be cruising up and down the river. I just don't think it was as good as last yr. The fireworks were ok also.

I went also and wonder where the majority of people were. Last year we went to the Wiley post park area and it was packed! So this time we went to Regatta Park - a good amount of people but not near as jam-packed.

I thought the boats were pretty darn cool - especially the one from the Native American Center. Where else except in OK can you go to a parade on a river and have a boat with Native Americans dancing?

I took some pics of the fireworks over the LED lights on the bridge. When I get them downloaded will post if they are okay.

The reason I did not go, and the reason I bet a lot of other people did not go is because the OU football game was televised starting at 7pm.

Not being invited to attend the Centennial Ball, I made most of the parade ... north side of 15th ... my water pics didn't turn out so well, though. If your pics turned out good, soonerfan21, maybe I can mooch off of you!? I'm going to do a combined Centennial post on (1) Sunset Ceremony in Guthrie, (2) Bricktown Ballpark version of Centennial Spectactular, (3) Devon parade, and (4) opening of State Art Gallery at the State Capitol yesterday, which was very nice.

The best pics I took of the parade was before it started ...

My boat pics were pretty blurry ...

This was the first year my friends and I went to this and we really enjoyed it. The highlight for us was the fireworks display they had.The boats looked amazing and the weather was perfect. We really liked the monorail one. Immediately afterwards though, we went back to Norman to watch the game.

I agree, Doug, that pics were difficult to get, so I am anxious to download. I borrowed a friend's camera so that is why I haven't been able to get them yet.

We killed 2 birds with one stone - went to the parade and took a battery operated TV to watch the OU game! Although we were able to leave about the time it started and caught it on the radio and then TV.

Actually I made a post about it a week or two ago and included a picture of the flyer for the event. I searched for it but can't seem to find the post. Perhaps the Mods deleted it?

A nice video clip of the parade with voice-overs by Ron Norick and others is at the Oklahoman's website: http://downloads.newsok.com/flash_vi...s/riverparade/

Wow! Thanks for putting that clip on Doug - my photos didn't turn out so I won't be posting any. But that definitely showed the beauty of the fireworks and lighting of the boats. We loved it and look forward to next year's event.
