Thread: Pawn Stores

    Question Pawn Stores

    Regarding pawn shops. .

There used to be a hellacious pawn of "old world" quality on the NE corner of 23 and Penn. . . Its been gone for many years. . Replaced by an endless morass of chain pawn stores. . .bland, uninspiring and nothing but a collection of aged video games, 10 speeds and the occasional antiquated 480 TV, that weighs a ton. . .

Are there any decent pawn shops in the city that have been around for a few years. . I would like to do some searching for some antiquated (tube type) "stereo equipment" and maybe a few good serviceable buggy whips. .

    Any suggestions for pawn shops?

I remember Ace Pawns. "Worlds Largest" at the corner of 23rd & May ... They had the wooden Indian Chiefs standing beside the entrances.

I frequently drive past one on Britton between Western and Penn (south side of the street). It's called Fat Cat Pawn, and it's in what looks like an old Western Sizzlin' building. Can't attest to what they sell, but you might want to give it a look.

Tube amps and hi-fi equipment in OKC...good luck. You might see some DJ stuff at pawn shops. I bought an original Technics 1200 at sooner state pawn years ago. But pawn is a business model of quick turnaround, and old school stereo equipment doesn't exactly fly off the shelves.

Guest room records also sells some gear. But for the audiophile, you're SOL unless your comfortable buying from estate sales or ebay: untested.
