This is maybe the coolest thing that happens in OKC all year. Last year I marched as one of the 1000 skeletons. I met a person from Australia and another from Kansas that came to OKC just to march with the Lips.
They're setting up on the lawn across from the "Y" on Broadway. Pretty exciting!
I agree. Probably the coolest event in OKC all year. Look forward to it all year long.
I'm super excited as I'll finally get to participate. We've been out of town the past two years, and this year I'll be assisting with the deadCenter float while SO works with the Humane Society group. Can't wait!
CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS! - WE NEED YOU!
Be a part of the coolest event all year! We still need parade marshals. All you have to do is hang out and watch the parade go by and keep people pushed back especially when the flaming skeletons come marching through. Register online at Home | Gazette's Ghouls Gone Wild or just show up at Volunteer Central by 6:30 on 8th and Broadway. We'll give you a hot orange t-shirt and show you where to go.
Is this event okay to bring the kiddos to? Their ages are from 5-12.
The first year I went and watched the parade and last year I marched as one of the skeletons. There were lots of small children and they seemed to enjoy it but... it is definitley geared to adults and there may be some things that are a tad inappropriate for small children. It just depends on your parenting style and how easily you are offended.
for some halflings, a thousand or so torch carrying, fully ambulatory, grim faced skeletons may ..... well, be a bit over the top for comfort zone. As for the rest of the folks, probably some over the top behavior for small fry eyes, given that it's largely designed as an adult appropriate theme party/parade/concert.
First year I was a skeleton. Last year I watched. This year I'm volunteering. Both years kids were wide eyed and having a great time up and down the street. I think it's like everything else, depends on as said above parenting style and what the kids are capable of. My son is 13 and wants NO part of it. Even though he LOVES the lips. He isn't a halloween fan. I still don't know how that happened to my child.
Check it out on youtube. You can see previous parades and decide for yourself.
If you are attending, please consider wearing a costume.
I was disappointed last year in the number of people that didn't put forth any effort at all....other than just showing up.
Here's a weird thought. If a passle of folks showed up carrying VOTE NO signs, could they just claim the signs were their union worker costumes and march in the parade and/or line the parade route?
I do not know why such thoughts enter the noggin
Or, get 10 people with them wearing suits, one in a Mick mask, and enter themselves as a city council meeting float
I hate my brain sometimes.
I attended the parade tonight for the first time. It was a lot of fun. They said there were 40,000 people there, about twice as much as a year ago.

I was there last night too - I had a really great time. It was one of those moments that affirmed how some really cool things are coming together culturally. It's hard to believe this event is only three years old.

I invited several friends down and a very good time was had by all. I saw lots of children at the parade and, while there was some screaming going on by them, they were having fun doing it, and didn't really appear frightened.
The Gazette's 3rd annual Ghouls Gone Wild Parade was a HUGE success! Attendance was close to 50,000! The parade and theafter party at the tent were incredible. Thank you to all of you who volunteered or sponsored this awesome event. OKC can be a really cool place to live. We are looking forward to year 4!
Did the Lips participate this year?
Don't Edmond My Downtown
Yes, the Lips put on the March of the Flaming Skeletons. I marched as one of the skeletons again this year and could definitely tell that there were many more spectators along the route. The entire route was packed with people at least 3 rows deep. The tent at the end was also really cool. I was really surprised when we rounded the corned at just how big that tent was. Betts, did you have any problems since the parade ended at your house this year? I say so many cameras on tripods that surely someone has some pictures to post.
"People are really coming from all, you know, mostly around America, but some from around the world. I want them to see what Oklahoma City is like. I want them to enjoy themselves, and I want this to be a strange event," Wayne Coyne
Wayne Coyne truly is OKC's #1 ambassador.
Hi all ~
Last Saturday, we went to the Ghouls Gone Wild parade. My lovely friend, Ducki, comes home (from Orlando) once a year. She specifically scheduled her trip this time just for the parade and Halloween *smile* We had a marvelous time! The weather co-operated. The crowd was energized. Bands under the big tent @ the end of the route. Loads of fun ~ FREE fun!
Of course, we dressed up.... as "Simi" a demon who is our fave girl character in Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter Vampire book series. I couldn't begin to count how many people asked to take our photo.
The parade is becoming so well known, especially considering it is only three years old. Quite an accomplishment!
XO ~

PS...... We didn't take many photos that night. I did manage to snap two pics of the flaming skeletons without someone's head blocking the shot. You can find them in a new album, if interested ~
