The fact the hotel has really struggled hasn't helped.

Such an amazing development and tons of money has been invested (including millions from taxpayers) but the hotel and restaurant in particular were a little too far ahead of the growth in this area. It's going to take a while for everything to catch up.

Really, much more housing is needed in the west downtown area.

Same for Bricktown. Really need more people on both sides of Sheridan.

I know it's a different part of the core (and thus a different thread), but I really thought that the giant surface lot east of the ballpark would be developed by 2025. OKC needs something Santa Fe Square in Tulsa's Blue Dome.

Where should/could more housing be built in the West Village/Film Row area?

There are lots of developable spaces just north and west of the area, all the way to the Plaza. Western to Classen ip to the new OnCue in particular. And Classen to Shartel up to about 6th. Lots and lots of good spaces.

Hard to develop when there are very few developers with true access to real capital. In OKC, there just isn't much. Not a lot of outside money coming in, either.

Yes. Also surprised that the spaghetti warehouse building and several of the empty buildings on the canal or empty upper floors in general across Bricktown haven’t been turned into housing. Adding a few hundred/thousand more residents to Bricktown would go a long way toward creating a more stable environment there.

Would take a developer with big money (the hardest part), creative ability, and a willingness to spend a lot up front and have it take longer than normal to recoup that spending.

Went with some friends for dinner last night. The service was great and most of the food was very good. We started with the meatballs and the flavor was there, but they fell apart quickly. Needs a little more egg for binding. The Chicken Parm was delicious and the noodles are good, but if you do not like thicker noodles then I would try something else. The Lasagna was great and was my favorite. I don’t usually like Lasagna. I tried the Tiramisu parfait and it was so rich and creamy. Be careful with that richness. I think it will do great and it was a packed night.

went over the weekend and everything was phoenomenal! the burrata toast and the tiramisu were standouts for me! service was excellent and the place was busy. i've been disappointed the last couple of years with patrono and stella nova, so i am pumped to have a new, really good italian option downtown.

I am not a fan of Stella, but I personally have never had a bad evening at Patrono. It is great to have a new Italian place that has it's own distinct flavors. Mary Eddy's will be on my regular Italian rotation. I need to try that burrata toast!

I agree about Patrono. Always seems good and not just another Americanized Italian restaurant. I am anxious to try Mary Eddy's and see if it is good Italian food or just food made with some Italian ingredients.

I agree about Stella, too. Not a favorite.

I am no expert on Italian food, but I did just reheat the noodles and sauce I had leftover from our dinner. The noodles were still so good! What I would guess is that it is Italian ingredients, but made to please a wide range of palates.

There's a lot of difference in quality of pasta and the bite. Most Americanized versions overcook the pasta and over-sauce everything. The particular cheeses they use is important too in being authentic and of high quality.

Saying that, there are still tasty versions of Americanized Italian dishes. Sort of like TexMex not being real authentic Mexican food. It's good, just not authentic.

i mean i wouldn't say patrono is bad! the food is fine. but the vibes are weird and it just doesn't feel like a high-end dining experience for the prices they charge.

but i thought everything about mary eddy's was right on point.

Vibes are weird? What does that mean?

I’d rather pay more for properly prepared cuisine than for an over-designed dining room. But that’s just me. I prefer Food over pretense.

    We should expect both.

to be clear: no reason to compromise on either, there's a lot more than just the food at play considering the $$$ restaurants demand today.

The vibes are weird? For me the place is a little stuffy because of the types of people who dine there. The regulars are usually in the higher end of the AARP if you catch my drift. That would be the only thing that would make the vibes a little weird to me.

^ way I understood that is the place feels dead even when they're full...how it feels to me anyways.

Maybe the quiet is why I like it. It is quiet and you can actually enjoy a nice meal with friends without shouting and without going there to be seen. More nooks and areas vs. big room dining with 200 of my loud "friends". Very unpretentious. That's why I like the Metro also... quiet, good food, comfortable neighborhood atmosphere...No big bar scene, and people having a nice dinner dressed and acting civilized. Not faddish. It's nice we have a few of those places in OKC.

"food over pretense" lol okay man. don't act like atmosphere is not considered in dining, let alone anything on the higher end of dining. i agree with will dearborn's post about how we should expect both in a place like that.

by vibes are weird, i really mean the restaurant itself. the staff is great and the food is fine. there is really no entry or waiting area, so if there's more than one table coming in at once you're either crammed in or waiting outside. the carpet is dirty, the decorations are outdated, and i personally dislike all the curtains everywhere. it feels a little claustrophobic to me tbh.

all i'm saying is if i'm uncomfortable in the space, i don't really wanna spend $40 for pasta that isn't that special.
