Through David Todd, Program Manager, the City of OKC today provided an update on the old Cox Center and the new arena planned for that site.
Todd said they have been working behind the scenes and when Prairie Surf Studio vacates Dec. 31st, work will start inside the building for such things as asbestos abatement.
The hope is to start demolition in March, and it will take 6-9 months to completely clear the structure.
The newly chosen architects will be working during demo to create the construction plan, and work should start immediately after demolition.
It will be a massive project right in the heart of downtown, with the goal of being completed in the summer of 2028.
All the details will gradually be revealed next year, including the layout of the site and architectural elements.
There will also be commercial development on the same block along with a new parking garage.
