Mayor’s Development Roundtable set for Monday, May 14

Mayor Mick Cornett will host The Mayor's Development Roundtable 6 on Monday, May 14 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cox Business Services Convention Center.

Every May, the Mayor holds this event to bring together public and private sector individuals with a commitment to developing a great community.

This year’s kick-off keynote speaker is William H. Hudnut, III (http://www.okc.gov/planning/roundtable/#Hudnut) of the Urban Land Institute in Washington, DC. In addition to previous careers as a clergyman, TV commentator and congressman, Hudnut was mayor of Indianapolis, IN during its growth boom in the 1980s.

Mayor Mick Cornett will speak at noon. His topic is “LEEDing with Green,” exploring ways developers can profitably build environmentally friendly projects.

Oklahoma City officials along with public and private sector entities gathered May 14 for the Mayor’s Development Roundtable 6 at the Cox Business Services Convention Center.
William H. Hudnut, III, of Urban Land Institute, was the keynote speaker.

Other guest speakers included:

• Fred Kent, founder and president of Project for Public Spaces;

• Marilee A. Utter, president of Citiventure Associates LLC, a Denver-based real estate advisory and investment firm specializing in mixed-use projects;

• Robert Gibbs, a leading urban planning consultant for Gibbs Planning Group Inc.

The speakers discussed an array of topics addressing Oklahoma City’s transit opportunities, creating destination and public spaces, and retail strategies for the city’s future growth and development.

In addition, Mayor Mick Cornett spoke on “getting green” and how Oklahoma City is doing its part of becoming a greener city.

“This whole new building approach is really becoming cost-effective,” Cornett said.

Cornett gave examples of recent and new construction using the “green” concept including Boldt Construction’s building on Interstate 235, Block 42, Maywood Park and the Triangle.

“The idea is that in building green everyone profits,” Cornett said. “It’s about making a profit while contributing to a healthier environment and a healthier community.”
