SPOILERS!!
I went to the midnight showing with some reservations. I had seen reviews saying that too much was crammed into this film. I was also worried that I wouldn't be able to stay awake, because I was getting drowsy during the trailers.
But it turns out I had no problems staying awake until 2:30 am for this one. It's a great cap on the trilogy, and I hope they will leave it at this.
There is a lot going on, but I felt like it all came together really well. No, the Gwen Stacy subplot didn't really go anywhere because it was merely part of Peter and MJ's struggle. Sure Venom doesn't show up until later in the film, but the symbiote had been causing the central problem for a good hour before that. Yes the dialogue can be cheesy, but that's common to all the Spider-Mans and most comic book filcks. I do think, much more so than the first two, that this film can benefit from a good extra 20 minutes on DVD, maybe more. But character development was pretty solid, especially for Peter, MJ, and Harry.
I loved the climatic scenes, everything from Harry coming to Peter's rescue, to the 4-man fight, to Harry's death and the VERY surprising and unconventional outcome for Sandman. Even the ambiguous ending with Peter and Mary Jane was perfect. It fit where their characters have come so far.
Everything comes full circle, including Harry & Peter's relationship, Peter's vengence and forgiveness involving Uncle Ben's death, and Peter and MJ's relationship.
CGI was pretty solid, especially on closeups and Venom specifically. Action shots of Spidey still aren't quite convincing, but that's a nit-pick.
I may be in the minority, but this is my favorite Spider-Man.
9/10 or A
Spider-Man 3 - 9/10 or A
Spider-Man - 8/10 or A-
Spider-Man 2 - 8/10 or B+
