the el paso shops is 385,000 sq ft and has 90 shops, the yare planning on expanding an additional 50,000 sq ft.. the oklahoma outlet is around 320 to 340,000 sq ft so im guessing maybe 75 to 80 shops? thats a good, hopefully we will get a accurate list of shops and exact sq footage soon, im hoping for disney outlet , perfumania, nike outlet, anda nice home decor outlet store. Cant really think of any upscale stores that have outlets or i would want them lol, louis vuitton outlet lol..

The mall may not have ideal finishes but I imagine that when it is done it will look quite impressive as this will be OKCs first taste of an outdoor shopping mall. And I am fine with the tarps, if we are going to have an outdoor mall, shade is key.

Agreed. I don't mind the "tarps" at all.

From that pdf list, the only store I'd go out of my way for is Levi's, but this will be very good for OKC.

they have the tarp design at a outlet mall in vegas, it was done nicely around the outside food courts, i think it will look good, it all just depends, okc to me is not a good idea for tarps, i work for parking at the airport and we have replace the tarps in lot 3 parking, every other year due to hail storm damage/ ice and snow/ high winds etc

This looks like it's going to be an incredible set of shops for Okc. Will help this side of town tremendously. Does anyone know what they plan to do with the roads to help with the increase in traffic? If you are ever around I-40 and Macarthur you know exactly what I'm talking about.

When talking about the tarps for the outlet mall, I know the Denver Airports tarps (cones) are made of kevlar. Obviously that would cost more than they are wanting to spend, but I think there are other alternatives to stand up to the Oklahoma weather.

They simply need to coat them with whatever hairspray some of my elementary teachers used back in the day.

The outlet mall in Cypress TX has these tarps as well. I was there during the winter, and it was pouring rain. The tarps made it so I would walk around much of the mall without getting wet, and only had to us my umbrella when I went from one group of buildings to another. During the summer heat, I'm sure it will make shopping much more tolerable.

I will be really upset if there's no Polo outlet. That's the one store we have missed most since moving to OK.

Have you been to the Speakeasy lately?...

It's baaaaaaaaaack.

At least for guys. A lot of the yups these days are dressing like the bad guy in every 80s teen movie.
What you are talking about is Lacoste (the alligator logo), Izod was the US distributor for Lacoste until the early 90's. So they are two distinct and separate companies now with Lacoste reentering the US market on their own about 10 years ago.

The "tarps" that are used for parking shelters are much lighter weight and a more open weave than what is used for most of this type of installation. Most of these are a multiple-layer with a coating, much more resistant to weather damage and UV degredation. I would think it would be between the parking lot type and DIA.

Apparently it will look very different from the El Paso Shoppes. They chose the more vibrant colors for El Paso to fit in with the borderland region, where bright colors are popular. The development group for some reason think Oklahoma warrants something much more subtle. They also mentioned that the El Paso project does not have the tarps but that they are intent on adding the tarps to the OKC Shoppes to "add ambiance."

I suppose it's justifiable because we have something El Paso doesn't...rain, and lots of it. But it still bothers me.

What you are talking about is Lacoste (the alligator logo),

Honestly, Ralph Lauren (the Polo logo) is more popular among the "yups" (to use BDP's word) in this part of the country. Lacoste and RL have nearly identical price points and quality and the shirts are identical as well, it's just that Lacoste is more Florida and east coast and RL is more popular in the Deep South.

If you want an even bigger case of the 80s being back..go to a sorority costume party, but wear plenty of nylon.

Breaking ground? I drove by today and the entire lot was dug up and graded. I am going by what the article is stating. Groundbreaking tommorrow July 22. I do not live in OKC so I have not seen how far the development and lot work has started. Maybe it is referring to the actual structure breaks ground tommorrow. Anyway, this should help bring in new retail offerings for OKC residents.

I'm sure it's ceremonial. It's very common for a "groundbreaking" to be held after work has actually started. They can't always wait until all of the "bigwigs" involved have time to get together.

This may not be super exciting on a personal level for some, but it's really good for OKC's tax revenue. Up til now, with the exception of the Quail Springs area, all the retail development in the outer ring has gone to the suburb cities.

Someone in this thread mentioned Fossil. Are there any Fossil stores in Oklahoma City? I know their products are found in department stores and jewelry stores. If one opens at the new Outlet stores I think this may be the first Fossil store in Oklahoma City. Tom Kartsotis, who is the founder of Fossil and current chair of its board, and his brother Costa, who is the CEO, grew up in Bethany. They moved to Texas around 1975 or 76 when Tom was in high school. He attended Western Oaks Junior High and Putnam City West in the Bethany area. Tom and Costa's dad worked for the Volkswagon Dealership on N.W. 39th Expressway. Fossil is now a billion and a half dollar company based in Richardson, Texas. It would be cool if Tom and Costa showed up for the grand opening.

Yes, in reality this is a very big deal for the city. These outlet malls draw people from outside of OKC which in turn will give us millions in new tax dollars. Not to mention this is the biggest commercial retail development OKC has seen in a long time.

metro, while I agree with you - I think OUrulz was referring to Gainsville Outlets and the fact that OKC people have been going there but now with OKC's new Outlet Center. That AND considering the fact that DFW people (outlet shoppers) probably now go to San Marcus - it would be the death of Gainsville.

As far as OK people going down to Texas for outlet shopping, I can see it still happening as Grapvine Mills has Neiman's Last Call and Allen Mall having Nordstrom Rack, if I am not mistaken. If it is not there in Allen then Nordstrom Rack is on Park Lane in Dallas. The outlet mall in OKC is not going to have either one of them.

Swake, I was referring to the cliche (sp?) that some Texans often say, that "OKC is Dallas' biggest suburb" due to their economic impact on the Big D since nothing is in OKC.. ...

Ft Worth may have a larger central city but OKC's metro population (1.3M+) probably has had more of an impact on the Dallas retail economy - (hence the cliche) which I think is slowly but surely beginning to change as OKC continues to land 'big city' retail options. ...

And like others have mentioned, Ft Worth would be considered a peer of OKC (similar population) if it were not part of DFW, but since it is - - -

It's kind of like Tacoma and St. Paul, both are amazing cities on their own but due to proximity to much larger/more prominent cities - they don't get much press.

And from what i saw, I have no idea why people from dallas would go to an outlet mall somewhere else. The one in allen was definetly top notch.

Probably the reasons gainseville and stroud struggled because they were far away from larger cities. With this being in okc, it will have a steadier flow of shoppers. Plus, the stroud outlets had a terrible tenant lineup

That has been the trend, I think they figured out that between major markets was not optimal. Some markets have been better positioned than Gainesville, Hillsboro or Stroud or the other ones that I have seen that are located far outside major metro areas. The San Marcos outlets have been there a long time but had the luxury of both Austin and San Antonio growing into each other as well as in other directions.

So, my apologies for not paying attention, but did they ever get financing..I know the city's deadline for that is coming up, and the deal was contingent on it.

They broke ground before the financing was finalized, but at the last city council meeting that this was on the agenda at, the developer promised he was working on financing.

Rockwell helps alleviate some of the traffic at the MacArthur/Reno intersection.

That won't be the case with the new mall. Rockwell will still help some but not nearly as much. The mall will likely have 2 entrances on the north side and hopefully 1 on the west side. There had better be or traffic will be much worse. I suppose they could extend third street west but there are businesses there and 3rd would probably have to go to the south of the businesses which is not ideal. The street that loops through the area and back to Reno doesn't look big enough to handle anything more than local traffic.

Either way traffic should be a nightmare at reno and council and even worse when it rains hard (those of you in the area know what I am talking about). Anyone agree with this? Well let me modify my statement...traffic at Rockwell and Reno will be a nightmare when it rains hard because if a motorist is smart they avoid Council in that situation.

Anyone know if the city plans to improve drainage at Council and Reno for this mall?
