Are they serious? They would rather have weeds represent our state because she lost her Bible? And yet it's okay to take the Bible out of classes, buildings, the workplace and everywhere in public in Oklahoma but forget a quarter if it doesn't have the Bible. I'm so confused to the thought process in this state.

I would've liked to have seen how a 1 to 1 vote for pioneer women vs. scissor-tailed fly catcher would've turned out. I think all of the Pioneer woman votes were spread out across the other 4 designs.

How can so many of us here have not voted for this design and it won 2-1? I don't understand. The people on OKCTALK must have much better taste than everyone else in the state.

I talked to some people about it and they agreed that the bird flying over the fields was lame and NOT Oklahoma.

Good! That was the best design of the lot.

The others were all too 'Ponca-centric'.

I had a feeling the bird would crap on my parade. The kids said they voted for the bird because it was a bird.

As a Poncan, I am very hurt by this. Apparantly the kids are not lerning our heritage anymore. Otherwise, the Pioneer Woman would have won.

Just to echo some of the thoughts, but not a big fan of the flycatcher quarter. Wonder how many people actually voted in this thing...? At any rate, not a great choice.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought so...figured I was just being disagreeable, but I didn't like *any* of the designs. I mean, you had four variations of the Pioneer Woman, vs. The Bird? That's the best we could do!??! Heck, I'd like to have seen *one* conestoga relating to the land run, maybe just an image of the state flag..

We've had the bird since the early 50's as one of our offical representatives.
I have to doubt its appearance on a quarter is capable of causing any serious issue with anyone except for the folks who thought so very highly of lil' of our book packing momma.

If it were up to me, it'd be a bison with a scissortail on his back, some mistletoe hanging from a horn, standing perched on a knocked over statute with a front hoove, an oklahoma rose on his ear, and a rear hoof kicking a watermelon into a field of indian blankets. Of course, until the colorized version hit the after market, some of the details might be right tough to make out

Surely there are worse state coins... you've seen Tennessee's, right?

Look at it this way... New Hampshire has the distinction of having a State Quarter that depicts a monument that is crumbling in their state. That's kind of hard to live down, too...

Having a Central American bird that eats a steady diet of insects and larvae flying over a patch of wildflowers is a bit bland, sure. But if that's what the voters wanted, what are you going to do? Move to a state that hasn't voted on their coin yet and start a grassroots campaign to get the Pioneer Woman on their quarter?

I kind of wonder how many of the folks that post on OKC Talk actually went out to vote for the State Quarter? Not that I'm calling anyone out, but surely someone voted for the Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher design, because it seems to have won.

I voted. It's not like it takes more than 30 seconds and a mouse click.

I voted, and I love the coin, no matter what is on it. OKLAHOMA rules! The OKIE one is the only one that I will collect and keep for my someday - grandchildren.

I voted for a third-party coin on an alternate web site.

The Governor of Oklahoma has let down the people - plain and simple. Granted this isn't his biggest responsibility, but I am of the opinion he didn't take the quarter design seriously. This was a chance to show the people of the world what they didn't know about Oklahoma. Instead, we get a bird and flowers. Nice job dumbass. (opps - was that last part outloud)

Yeah, I wasn't too impressed with the bird myself. I can't complain though, because I didn't vote.

I wonder if there was some stupid concern that land run stuff would favor OU over OSU? If so, that's crap.

Rifleman- I don't think the people of NH are trying to "live down" the image on the quarter- to the contrary, I think that many are pretty upset that something so important to them was destroyed. Matter of fact, there's a movement to change the state's flag to feature the Old Man.

How would people who are so pro-Pioneer Woman feel if she got destroyed in a tornado or something?

i agreed with the general thought that the design choice for the quarter sucked, but after seeing it on the back of the coin i actually like it. what do you all think?

It's not bad. I think a stereotypical oil/cowboy/farming related image would be worse.

I like Oklahoma's quarter design. It speaks to me of simplicity, and, maybe.. "Oh what a beautiful morning." I remember a few of them out at my grandma's farm, picking blackberries soon after the sunrise. Well, I remember plenty of them. I think many of the state quarters are way too busy. But I think ours is pretty - like Oklahoma.
