One of my hobbies is Metal Detecting. Looking for a place where I can (with permission) do some metal detecting. I like to find relics and items of interest to Norman and OK history. Any ideas or contacts would be greatly appreciated.

How about the duck pond on Lindsey? That place gets so much traffic, you're bound to find something valuable there.

There's always the state parks and lakes, or the heads of some OKCTalk members. :)

Saying I would also like to have a metal detector makes me feel like a 70 year old man in a straw hat.

I'm always intrigued when I pass any abandoned structure - someones old homestead or business. I would imagine the partiallly collapsed stone structure on Hwy 66 just east of Arcadia or the abandoned school building just north of
63rd and Sooner in OKC have some potential for artifacts.

Stevenson Park in Edmond (Boulevard at 5th St) dates from the 20's, and has the original WPA armory in one corner. Should be some cool stuff buried there!

Some good receommendations and Ideas.

Going out to Lake Thunderbird to get a permit to Metal Detect out there I will be sure to wear my straw hat. Would like to find old farms and and really like the schools and Park and WPA armory suggestions. I been to the duck pond a couple of times, that was the first place I went.

Thanks

Cornbread, please don't take Sturgeon too seriously. She thinks anybody over 25 is ancient! Have fun!

I didn't take Sturgeon seriously at all. That is why I tossed in that I would be sure to wear my straw hat.
