onthestrip 03-16-2017, 10:45 AM Hopefully this isnt just all there'll be for the patio. Surely operators know by now that you cant just put tables on a concrete slab and expect people to use it. What is shown, there might only be a handful a days a year that would be pleasant enough to use. Whereas a patio like Barrios, you can use 3/4 of the year because of shade, wind block, and heaters.

I'm sure they'll add umbrellas eventually.
Does anyone know what time they start things off tomorrow?
Figured out they start at 10AM tomorrow.
Took this photo this afternoon. This patio is going to be very cool.

shawnw 06-16-2017, 02:15 PM That's great!
KingOfTheNorth 06-16-2017, 03:14 PM Holy cow that is needed. That building was literally the biggest eyesore as I would go down 13th. I would rather them just build a new apartment building, but I'll take what I can get here.
sroberts24 06-19-2017, 03:26 PM The amount of development along 6th is amazing. These infill projects are great and can't wait to see more of them. Along with all the ones on AA, really exciting to see. bring on the density!
Really think the best places in Midtown for mid rise housing would be 4th & Shartel, 4th & Lee and 5th & Lee. The views looking SE from about 4-8 stories up would be unmatched by any in the city. Especially now with BOK Plaza and even more so once CC Hotel. 13933

I believe that's Dylan Bradway.

Huh. I thought that was to be a bar..?
The original plan was for it to be a bar called White Oak but that fell through.
Urbanized 10-02-2017, 06:11 PM Aha, thanks.

baralheia 10-27-2017, 04:33 PM The "Too Long; Didn't Read" version is that Google is setting up temporary "popup" shops to promote their new Google Home Mini speakers, and OKC is getting one for this weekend. The event is completely free; people who go will either get a doughnut or a free Google Home, just by talking to one of the Google Home devices in the popup shop. (The doughnut gimmick is because the new speaker is about the size of a doughnut) More info from Adweek: http://www.adweek.com/digital/google-is-opening-pop-up-doughnut-shops-to-promote-its-voice-activated-mini-speakers/
Pryor Tiger 10-27-2017, 04:37 PM Interestingly enough, google is starting to pop up more and more in OKC. We were walking in the plaza district the other day and noticed that there were murals sponsored by google. Anyone know the reason for the increased marketing presence here? Maybe its just an underserved market in their opinion?
Just went by. It’s a psuedo dunut shop as a promotion fir Google Home Mini, which is shaped like a donut.
OKC_on_mines 10-27-2017, 08:48 PM Thanks guys.
Ditto on the remarks about Google's presence here. Recently dated a young lady that worked at At&t and I thought back to reports that Google was bringing google fiber here to OKC. Apparently its much faster internet. In one of our conversations she mentioned that apparently the deal with Google was postponed and that Governor Falling had begun to consider Cox and At&t (maybe smartly having them fight each other over us).
Is the increased presence, the jobs google brought to our state, etc a way to compete?
soonerguru 10-28-2017, 12:25 AM Thanks guys.

stile99 10-28-2017, 08:30 AM Holy crap, people are lining up already? I thought they didn't start until 10!
It's below freezing and the dang thing only costs 50 bucks!
sooner88 10-28-2017, 01:46 PM I went this afternoon and it will be open to ~6 today and tomorrow. The line was short and I was in and out in 5 minutes, but unfortunately only got donuts.
stile99 10-28-2017, 02:29 PM Same here. Was in the area around noon, was surprised to see the line was actually pretty short so I stopped in, I think I was in line less than 2 minutes. Got donuts.
Came home, my Echo and Echo Dot consoled me.
I think, now that I have seen it, the people in the pictures were not yet lining up, just looking at the cool new thing.
Anonymous. 10-28-2017, 02:41 PM I went by early this morning and had no idea what was happening. But it seems like people were either lining up for maybe first X amount of customers getting free Home Minis and Google swag.

Post #2180. Ask the Google Mini one of the questions on the card they loan you (it has to be one of those questions), a box falls down the chute. Box contains one Google mini or two donuts. The rules explain how it is figured, but basically a random time is picked, the first person who asks after that time wins, and another random time is picked. They have 300 to give out.
turnpup 10-28-2017, 04:27 PM Drove by at 3:00 and there were tons of people in line.
ShadowStrings 10-28-2017, 09:33 PM I got there at about 5:15. The line seemed long, but it moved pretty fast. Seemed like at least every other person was winning a Home Mini.
CCOKC 10-29-2017, 05:28 AM I won a mini along with the two other people that were in line behind me. An hour later my 2 children and my daughter's boyfriend all won a mini.
baralheia 10-30-2017, 11:06 AM Went there on Saturday, and got there within the last hour. The whole thing was a very neat experience and both my husband and I both won a Mini. Already like the thing way better than my Echo Dot, as the Google Assistant is way better at answering natural language questions than the Echo, and the voice sounds better and less robotic. Happened to chat with the promoter running this location after they shut everything down for the evening, and he said turnout was slightly better than they expected. They ran out of doughnuts at the end! They apparently have two teams that leapfrog each other between the 12 cities that they are doing this thing in. Many of the staff helping guide people through the popup traveled here from out of state but were all super excited that this was happening here. So, yeah, all in all, this was a very fun time and hopefully Google brings more events like this to OKC!

I somewhat like my weak AI to sound like a robot still. I also renamed my Echo from "Alexa" to "Echo" because I don't want robots having human names. I've watched too many sci fi movies to be comfortable with human-sounding robots. I also unplug Echo surveillance when not using it, which makes it far less convenient. Curious if others are ambivalent about AI tech. (Yeah, I know, way off topic)

Back when we had an Alexa (before she was stolen, womp), my partner made me unplug it while we were doing our taxes because he didn't want it listening to any sensitive information.

BBatesokc 10-31-2017, 05:51 AM I gotta stay with my Echo Dot unless/until Google can control my Sonos sound system. Love that the Echo now does that!
BridgeBurner 10-31-2017, 08:42 AM Well, now I feel like an idiot. I was at bleu garten Saturday wondering why the heck so many people were buying donuts at night on a Saturday...
I know this is public info and may already be on here somewhere, but thought I would post it anyway.

A multifamily development by the name of “Cirrus” is set for construction on the NW corner of N.W. 8th and Shartel. This project will break ground in spring of 2018 and will deliver 4 town homes of equal size to the area.
The re-working of Western between 18th & 23rd is almost complete.

Urbanized 04-21-2018, 07:52 AM As of yesterday they had all of the spray-painted markings down showing where the permanent crosswalk and bike lane markings will be, so I’d suspect those will be put down next week. Other than buttoning up the median beds immediately in front of the old AF buildings with landscaping (and I believe some minor infrastructure) this project will be substantially complete at that point.
turnpup 04-21-2018, 12:52 PM I frequently travel this particular area. While the improvements are nice, I've found that for me, all the extra visual stimulation (light posts, trees, flashing signs) makes me *less* able to quickly spot pedestrians who may be crossing. Now it's more of a challenge to look out for them than it was previously.
Looks like they are done with this project.
Pedestrians can hit a crossing button and the lights you see on the yellow signs will flash.

I mean the bright, flashing signs are pretty obvious. I think they will definitely help see people crossing. No sure how much more they could do to help visability.

They need something like this on Broadway on 7th and 9th.
They need something like this on Broadway on 7th and 9th.
And Shartel between 10th and Main, NW 4th, 5th and 6th Streets in SoSa and a bunch of other places.
None of those streets carry nearly enough traffic to warrant 4 lanes and all are big pedestrian barriers in areas of increased housing, with a lot more to come.
I'd also like to see them do this with Classen all the way along, going from 6 to 4 lanes. It would be an awesome bike connector from NW OKC to the core.
Martin 05-10-2018, 10:23 AM the king of deficient crosswalks is ne 14th & lincoln... the pedestrian technically has the right of way across lincoln but you're crossing six lanes of traffic that is often going around 50mph.
^
And there is no reason Lincoln is 6 lanes.
Martin 05-10-2018, 11:33 AM And there is no reason Lincoln is 6 lanes.
i can see justification for keeping lincoln at 6+ lanes from i-235 to 10th or maybe even to 13th due to all of the medical center traffic... anything north of that all the way to i-44 doesn't need to be designed as if it still carried highway 77.
LakeEffect 05-10-2018, 02:10 PM ^
And there is no reason Lincoln is 6 lanes.
It could easily go down to 2 lanes each way, based on ACOG's traffic counts.

Classen desperately needs to go down to 4 lanes with dedicated left turn lanes. I've seen so many car accidents due to people stopping in the left lane to make a left turn onto one of the streets, attempting to pull out into the tiny median to make a left turn onto Classen from one of the side streets, or a combination of the two.
HOT ROD 05-11-2018, 03:21 PM Nice crossing, but one thing's missing are the lights in the street itself. This would surely provide full-visibility - I've seen them up here.
As for Lincoln "Boulevard"; I'd really like to see the city/state really turn it into a true boulevard the entire way with a park-like median throughout. I know we have this very near to the capitol building itself, creating a capitol campus, but I'd like to see the middle median parkland extend all the way up and down with turnouts while the street itself would have 4-lanes (and maybe even street parking if possible). Include key monuments and placards throughout the median along with a few fountains, statues, and wayfinding signage; accentuate it all with great lighting on the pedestrian scale and the ever important SIDEWALKS, CROSSWALKS (including scrambles at key intersections), and bike lanes. .. then maybe also have pods on the side of the roadway for food trucks, cart vendors, and/or buskers.
BTW, all of this could/should be done for the new OKC boulevard, Classen Boulevard, GRAND Boulevard, and perhaps Shields Boulevard too. .. No reason why OKC can't have several very grand boulevards that are REAL "boulevards" providing a huge asset to the city and its neighbourhoods.
rte66man 05-11-2018, 06:20 PM What I would like to see is the streetcar restored to the Classen median with reduction to 4 traffic lanes.
mugofbeer 05-11-2018, 07:58 PM Lincoln, too.
warreng88 05-12-2018, 07:46 AM Midtown OKC tenants see lots of parking
By: Brian Brus The Journal Record May 11, 2018
OKLAHOMA CITY – As the Midtown district grows, so does concern for an important component of more growth: parking.
Midtown is just northwest of the downtown business district where new parking spaces are likely to be built in stacked floors. Midtown still relies heavily on ground-level parking, however, and rumor of a new Jimmy’s Egg restaurant at NW Eighth Street and Hudson Avenue had neighboring Elemental Coffee customers recently wondering where more automobiles will fit.
Elemental owner Laura Massenat was nonplussed, however.
“I’m not particularly concerned about parking,” Massenat said. “We might be short for a couple of years, but then we’ll move beyond being a culture that needs so much parking space because each person drives an individual vehicle. People are more alarmed than they need to be. It’s a temporary inconvenience.”
Aaron Johnson, president of the newly opened Farmers Bank at NW 12th Street and Walker Avenue, said he looked carefully at the parking environment before picking the branch site. Farmers is an all-purpose, boutique bank, which means a lot of customer traffic across from the Edge Apartments, Johnson said, but it does not have a drive-thru window. The bank could not afford to rely on curbside street space.
“We absolutely love this location,” Johnson said. “Parking won’t be much of a problem for us, because the building was designed with some covered parking and a lot in the back. We also arranged a long-term lease with the owner of the lot on the north side.”
Chris Fleming, a partner in the Midtown Renaissance Group, said that when his company develops a property, he’s always mindful of providing parking for tenants – Fassler Hall and Plaza Court, for example.
Fleming said it’s difficult to predict how cultural trends will shape Midtown – as Massenat said, ridesharing and the MAPS 3 streetcar could play an important part in how parking demand is met.
“The message I want to convey is that parking is not a problem,” Fleming said. “You might have to walk a block, but there’s interesting stuff to see along the way. You might stop at a retail shop to buy something or visit another business.”
Plutonic Panda 05-12-2018, 03:52 PM What I would like to see is the streetcar restored to the Classen median with reduction to 4 traffic lanes.
In my plan, Classen will be widened to 10 lanes and upgraded to a controlled access facility with a five stack at NW 23rd.

Lincoln actually still carries a state highway designation, but it's not signed as such and is currently carried on the books as Highway 0. (For a while it was SH-107.)
