For no reason in particular...... I'm already a fan of this place! Just opened yesterday.
They plan to add a fairly good sized patio in the two space parking lot to the north of the building.
Also noticed that there is some kind of women's boutique going in the retail space on walker currently being renovated in the Plaza Court building.
I'm curious about the wine aspect... I suppose that means they'll stay open in the evenings.
OkiePoke 08-17-2016, 12:46 PM I decided to walk around Midtown during lunch and took some pictures.
I also noticed that Trade Men's Ware is closing.

Lol. From a distance it does look like him. I had to zoom in to make sure it wasn't (it's not him). ;)

And we might just be getting an independent bookstore in Midtown. The first hint is a new Twitter account started last week for "Commonplace Books." The account indicates the bookstore will be located in Midtown. The deal is not quite done yet, but I'm told we should be hearing more details soon.
I wish them well, but I am among those who have absolutely no interest in patronizing a book store. There are a lot of very successful businesses that I don't patronize, however.
5alive 09-12-2016, 10:35 AM I love that picture of Midtown. It looks very urban.
Bluejay 09-13-2016, 11:21 AM Does anyone know what the plan is for the old tower theatre on Harvey? I was walking by and heard the guy working inside talking about how that entire building and the grey one next to it to the south had been bought. I just have not read anything on it yet. Thanks!

I think you mean the old Uptown Theater, which is just south of the old Foodies spot.
The theater itself is not under construction, it's a small retail space just to the south of the hallway that leads back to the theater. The tenant will be Midtown Nutrition.
Bluejay 09-13-2016, 12:26 PM Yes! That is what I meant. Thank you!

And I am one that would patronize one in a New York minute.
Another Midtown retailer has opened, Opolis in the old fire station at 1111 N. Hudson.
They've been open about a week but are having their official grand opening on 9/30.

dankrutka 09-23-2016, 10:08 AM Man, this area is really turning into something special. With the new retail and patios, Walker between 10th and 13th is going to be beaming with activity.
Timshel 09-23-2016, 10:17 AM Stella and Hanks both putting in patios along Walker:
Hopefully they'll put them to better use than McNellie's has with its patio. (Is there any word whether they ever intend to have regular outdoor seating? Or is this patio actually run by Plaza Court?) I like Hank's a lot and agree that it feels more like C&J than the other Midtown coffee shops - I just wish it was open later!
I honestly don't know if McNellie's ever plans to use that patio. I wish they would.
dankrutka 09-23-2016, 12:30 PM I honestly don't know if McNellie's ever plans to use that patio. I wish they would.
So, McNellie's can use it. I wasn't sure if it was somehow set up as a common space for the entire building... which pretty much would mean it goes to waste.
If McNellie's can use it and they're not going to then that seems like a strange decision. As they say, there's no better open sign than a patio.
I'm not sure if McNeillie's can use it or not.
dankrutka 09-23-2016, 12:51 PM If it set up as a common space then it just needs to be given/loaned to McNellie's. It will go to waste as a common space, but could be great for the area if McNellie's used it. It would be another activated space along Walker...
dankrutka 10-04-2016, 01:56 PM The great work in Midtown continues... It's the small things, but this area just has a better feel with the new shops and signage.

OkiePoke 10-04-2016, 02:15 PM My girlfriend and I went to check out the new shop along Walker. I can't remember the name though.
It is the female clothing store. I thought it was a really nice store. The price points were great. Ranged from $25-$100.
Nhu Avenue (in Plaza Court) or Mode next to Hank's Coffee?
OkiePoke 10-04-2016, 02:28 PM Nhu Avenue. Thanks.
The owner moved from Houston (I believe) and was a buyer for one of the bigger stores. She decided to use those connections to open this shop. She is very friendly and is an OU grad.
They have some really nice things in there. Definitely should check it out.

NEW PROPOSED CONDO PROJECT IN MIDTOWN
George Massey from Heritage Hills · 1d ago
I had many inquiries about my Lisbon Lofts Townhome project last year (www.lisbonlofts.com), as many residents in our historic areas were considering MidTown as a possible future area of interest, especially in retirement. The two and three story projects in Midtown, Downtown and Bricktown were not as appealing because of the multi level status. Although we are in the very beginning stages of consideration, we do have Developers that are seriously looking at a project of one floor (flats) condos and have already engaged a Civil Engineer to do a feasibility study that we now have received.
Under consideration are, 1200, 1800, 2400 or 3600 square feet (whole floor), in a luxury, all Concierge concept with rooftop amenities, for Midtown. 1-3 Beds, 2-3 Baths.
If you would like to be placed on our email updates for this potential project, please email me at;
george.massey@exprealty.com.
We will work towards a Facebook Page when we have more information!
Urbanized 10-27-2016, 02:59 PM Interesting. Never put two and two together that George was involved with Lisbon Lofts. He sold me my home in Gatewood years ago.
Commonplace Books is going into the never-filled space north of Organic Squeeze on Walker in The Edge.
My understanding is they decided to pass on the space at Plaza Court as this location offered more square footage.

Midtown has a really solid core now & is going to be incredible when the former Boulevard site, Uptown theater, and large lots and infill north and south of 10th take shape. And I'm sure there are many other things coming.

Good gracious! Back then I had no occasion to be in the area, so had no idea how far we've come.
shawnw 11-03-2016, 02:28 PM Probably been discussed but I wish the building on the East side of Walker between the new Walker building and 1212, the one with the set back, would have a 2-3 story addition added in place of the parking lot that's there. Because the parking lot is elevated, you could dig that out, still have the same amount of parking (or more depending how far you dig), but then also have ground level retail plus more offices about, and still connect it to the existing building.
dankrutka 11-11-2016, 02:54 PM From Steve's chat today:
Hey Steve, Any hints or rumblings on what Midtown R is planning to do with the superblock they own between hudson and Rob?
It's a pretty impressive property these guys have assembled. I do know they are looking to emphasize retail and aren't eager to add too many more apartments to the neighborhood. We may see a mix that includes significant size company moving downtown, retail and maybe for sale housing. But this isn't from the Midtown Renaissance folks - this is based on what I'm hearing and observing from others (though it is certain Bob Howard's group is not eager to add a lot of apartments).
I really would love to see a lot of residential in a mixed-used development. This would be a highly desireable place to live that would bring more 24/7 life to the area.
Ross MacLochness 11-11-2016, 04:12 PM Totally agree. Why hesitate on building more apartments? They could still include ground floor retail... more people in the area would provide an immediate consumer base to those stores and give the neighborhood a feeling of life.

My guess would be that the hesitation would be due to the current financial feasibility of more apartments in that area.
KayneMo 11-12-2016, 12:51 AM Forgive me, where exactly is this property? The superblock.

Teo9969 11-12-2016, 02:11 PM A mini "KaDeWe" (http://www.kadewe.de/en/home_english) would be pretty cool in this spot. Not a replica, but the concept.
Certainly I think they could do some fore-sale condos on the top floor, but I can understand the sentiment of wanting less large apartments, especially in what could end up being the most important block in Midtown
sooner88 11-12-2016, 06:17 PM I saw that Hall's Pizza is opening up a restaurant in the building at 9th and Hudson

warreng88 01-06-2017, 10:22 AM Juice bar squeezing into smaller space at The Edge
By: Molly M. Fleming The Journal Record January 5, 2017
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Edge developer Gary Brooks is a big fan of Organic Squeeze.
He’s such a fan that he convinced owners and brothers Mike and Robert Rhodes to move into 7,600 square feet on the first floor of the apartment building at 1325 N. Walker Ave. two years ago.
“I ended up pushing a little more space on them than they needed,” Brooks said. “Ultimately, they came back and said, ‘We really don’t need this much space to do what we do.’”
Organic Squeeze opened its doors in spring 2015. Robert Rhodes said he and his brother shut down temporarily in fall 2016.
He said the Midtown restaurant was a learning experience for them as well. The store, which was Organic Squeeze’s second full location, offered a hot food bar with soups and even had some prepared foods. The restaurant equipment will be auctioned online Monday at pciauctions.com.
“The food aspect is just outside of what we do,” he said. “We thought we could make it work. We found out the hard way that we couldn’t.”
Rhodes said juice and smoothies sold well in Midtown, but the food and coffee were not as successful, which is why the brothers are regrouping the operation. The Midtown Organic Squeeze will reopen this spring, serving their juices and smoothies.
Brooks is redesigning the space, putting in a wall so he can get more tenants on The Edge’s first floor. Organic Squeeze will reopen there in a smaller spot. He’s working with retail expert Allison Bailey on curating tenants for the remaining spaces. Commonplace Books is taking most of other northern retail space.
This is Brooks’ first apartment building with first-floor retail. He said Midtown developers Chris Fleming and Mickey Clagg encouraged him to add the first-floor spaces so the activity on N. Walker Avenue could continue north.
“Early this summer, we’ll have some really fun, quality tenants that will add to the incredible walkability of Walker,” he said. “I’m very excited about the retail piece. Midtown (Renaissance Group) has done such a good job of being selective of the tenant profile on Walker. We want to add value to what they’ve done.”
Rhodes said if a third Organic Squeeze store is opened, the site and size will be carefully considered after the lesson at The Edge. He said it’s difficult to say no to an opportunity, so he and his brother worked really hard on the Midtown store.
“Not to say that Midtown isn’t the right location, we know it is,” he said. “We just got outside our focus of what we do.”
I drove by Wine and Palette on Saturday night and they were busy painting and drinking away.
Now, they are completely gone (this is directly west of Packard's).

onthestrip 02-27-2017, 12:02 PM Someone that could properly utilize the roof top above that space would be nice. It seems like an after thought and disconnected from Packards.
They have not announced anything on social media and this seems like an instance of making an exit in great haste.
