Generals64 03-03-2009, 08:20 PM Hey, Mom used my stick horse on my back side! So much for ol' faithful, the
jerk...
================================================== =========
I panicked one time cause I ran into my mom's car with my bike....kept remembering the stickhorse ordeal.....Do you remember your mom telling you to go out and get a switch for your punishment????? man, I though that little
bity pretty one would be the one to use.....Still feel the sting...My mom was a good lady though, I had EVERYTHING I got coming....
Generals64 03-04-2009, 04:35 PM Do you remember building a snowman in OKC as a child?...We would roll the bottom so large that when we got to the middle ball No one was big enough to pick it up....I'm sure there are others of you out there did the same thing....right?????
grantgeneral78 03-04-2009, 06:27 PM I wonder what ever happened to the monorail that was at the fairgrounds and the airplanes?
MonkeyBiz6903 03-04-2009, 06:51 PM I wonder what ever happened to the monorail that was at the fairgrounds and the airplanes?
They moved the B-52 to California. You watch them tear down the grandstand next.:fighting3

================================================== =====
The Monorail is still out there by the Oklahoman exhibit...Just the cars and a piece of the track.

Because of that our snowmen were always disproportionate. Big bottoms and
little heads.

Yeah it seems the fairgrounds is a big horse arena now.

drove the monorail one year for the fair, catch was you drove for about an hour, then tended the gate rest of the time. luster didn't last long
Prunepicker 03-06-2009, 09:50 PM Yeah it seems the fairgrounds is a big horse arena now.
The Made in Oklahoma building has been a big disappointment. That silly
Agraopolis, or whatever it's called, should be moved to the barns and the
things "Made in Oklahoma" should be put back where they belong.

Is the monorail still free? I've ridden in it and liked it. It's worth every cent
if it's free.

When I lived in Texas, i had a friend that was in charge of the Clean-Up after the Astronauts. When they aaccidentally drop Neil Armstrong's boots some of the Moon dust fell off. He (like a dummy) swept it up into a plastic medicine vial and took it home. Got to see it, hold it and think wow:....then reality set in...you could go to prison forever if caught. Handed it back and said that's cool...gotta go....

I knew that was what was going to be said because 30 years ago, I said the exact same thing until I saw this guys NASA credentials....I did not want to go to jail over some goofy looking back dust.... or dirt....Wasn't REaaal impreass but, It was kinda neat...
grantgeneral78 03-07-2009, 05:20 PM I remember a old "flying o" bike I had as a youngn and we took a few other bikes and whacked the forks off of them and extended the forks on mine took it to the gas station on 59th and may had the guy weld them on and WAALAA......a chopper had the big tall sissy bar on the back with the basseball cards in the spokes, a metallic banana seat, and the headlight /tailight combo that ran off of the little generator that sat on the tire...MAN I WAS BAD TO THE BONE!

My dad paid $1.00 for my bicycle. Longhorn handle bars, Pearson seat and two flat tires.....Man it looked great. Tires were $1.00 and tubes were .39 cents. Now, for less than $5.00. The southside of Oklahoma City was mine to travel. I would get to see the world. Painted a name on her...called her "Minnie Troubles".....some outlaw stole her from in front of the old Woolworth store in Grant Square.........

There is Sussy's Nomad II on N. May and the pizza is excellant. Go get a fleetwood, you won't regret it. the rest of the menu is great also. it's a throwback place.
Prunepicker 03-07-2009, 09:04 PM Pizza Planet... tried to compete with Sussy's... didn't make it though...
Didn't Sussy have a place on NE 50th just east of Lincoln? I'm thinking it was
almost across the street from Sleepy Hollow.
Prunepicker 03-07-2009, 09:11 PM Somewhere in my pile of junk I have a copy of a check that Jake Samara
wrote to me. It's got the Kings Club logo on it.
He was the business mind behind Jack Sussy. Jake owned the Tempo Club on
NE 23rd. Sussy walked in one day and started rearranging the tables. Jake
asked him what he was doing and Jack said, "I'm going to work here." Jake
asked him if he knew anything about the restaurant business and he said he
worked in a deli in New Orleans. The rest is history. Jack had the charisma
and Jake, a crotchity old crab, had the business sense.
Oh, Jake was wanting to change the name of his place and asked Jack
what his last name was. He said, "that's good. It'll just cover the name
that's on the sign."
grantgeneral78 03-07-2009, 09:34 PM pizza planet I believe
thats right duhh thanks wino.....man they had some thick pizza like jo`s pizza does
Prunepicker 03-07-2009, 10:54 PM Oh, Jake was wanting to change the name of his place and asked Jack
what his last name was. He said, "that's good. It'll just cover the name

That's how Sussy's came about. By the way, Sussy had only worked at
that deli for a very short time.
Do you remember how he'd greet everyone at the door like they were his
best friend? Jake couldn't convince you that he liked anyone. Not even his
brothers!
He made sure that in every tavern or restaurant he owned that the one in
charge made you feel important.
Sheeesh! I wish I could do that. Hey Gen64! I need some help! You can
BS an Eskimo in northern Alaska into buying a freezer.
Prunette is so forgiving...
SE-76 03-07-2009, 11:42 PM Didn't Sussy have a place on NE 50th just east of Lincoln? I'm thinking it was

I seem to remeber it on Lincoln though.
Also didn't Sussy's move into the Beverly's at 29th & May, when they left?
bluedogok 03-08-2009, 07:28 PM One of Sussy's places was on the NE corner of 36th & Lincoln. I think it was torn down in the early to mid 90's during the reclamation of that section of Lincoln Blvd. There are some stories about it in the Jeffiee Tayer book Whatever Happened to Molly Murphy's House of Fine Repute? (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2411267.Whatever_Happened_to_Molly_Murphy_s_House_ of_Fine_Repute_) that I picked up a couple of weeks ago at Full Circle when we were back in town.
USG '60 03-08-2009, 08:50 PM Just yesterday while going through some old junque I found a still flattened, unfolded box for a small Sussy's pizza. If someone will tell me how to get the picture on here I will scan the center of it and post it.
grantgeneral78 03-08-2009, 08:56 PM I seen steve lackmeyer talking on oeta yesterday about the history of bricktown was a very interesting interview.
Prunepicker 03-08-2009, 09:08 PM Also didn't Sussy's move into the Beverly's at 29th & May, when they

There was a Beverly's at SW 29th and S.May? My brain is hurting. Who?
What? When? Where? Why?
Are you drunk? I mean really drunk? C'mon it's Sunday night!
Is this guy right?

You're exactly right. It was called "Sussy's" and the "King's Club". It was
tore down in the mid 90's, if I remember correctly. The lot is still vacant and
owned by Jake Samara.

There was a "pitch to you win" buffet there for a while. But, if you are really from the Southside of OKC you will remember that that is where all the local Country Singers performed on Clear Friday and Saturday night. Norma Jean, Wanda Jackson, Hank Thompson, Bud and Don Mathis, Jude and Jody, Johnny Hughes and so on.....right there on that lot before it was anything special....Thank you W.P. "Bill" Atkinson...
MonkeyBiz6903 03-09-2009, 04:47 PM Yeah im really from the southside. But after my head injury in 77'. Somethings stuck in my memory others gone forever.

65 to 69 or 70. Seems like the mgr was either from or went to the
23rd street Beverly's. Besides the bitrhday card, they made a sundae
with the cone on top and decorated like a clown.
Apple pie with a slice of cheese on it. Honey & creamer in the little bottles with a cardbord top. And those finger bowls to tidy up after that chicken in the rough.

MonkeyBiz6903 03-10-2009, 04:34 PM My grandmother was crazy about Beverly's "Chicken in the Rough". Which seems to me like regular chicken with honey poured on top.

No billiards. But I did play a lot of snooker at Eddy's Past time on 24th and walker. In fact the sign is still on the building.
