him at Hook & Slice.

Was Hook & Slice on S. Western? I played there but I can't remember
where it was.

He was a customer at our family business. I can't say that he presented
himself in a positive manner.

Southwest corner of Wilshire & Broadway, there are still some remnants of it behind the warehouses. It was an old Duffy Martin course.

Another example of how political discussions carry over into these threads. Prunepicker didn't respond to my post above because of the discussions in those political threads. Otherwise, he would have responded and there's no question in my mind. Too bad it's that way.

Ah, yes. I remember it now. I golfed at Duffy's Brookside course in Moore
back in the 60's. It was a 9 hole course. It looks like it's still there but I
don't know who owns it.

The name was something like Duffy Martin's Brookside or Broadmoore golf
course. It was 9 holes and you played it twice. In the 60's it cost about
$3 for green fees and club rental.

I remember when my parents decided to buy a newer/bigger house on the S. side of OKC. It was in 1964, we lived near downtown in a small, 2 bedroom house (mom, dad and three kids), their house payment was 52 dollars a month, they (MOM) found what she called her dream house on the S. side, and their payment was going to be 78 dollars a month. Mom and Dad spent probably a month, trying to decide what they could do to afford this HIGH, mortage payment.

They bought the house, and, I still own this property. (Rental income)

That's cool and especially since you have kept it in the family. My mom and dad did basically the same thing. GI housing off of 47th and Independence. They were building those houses as fast as they could get the lumber and help. My parents house payment was 49.00 and you could feed a family of six (two adults and 4 kids) on $ 20.00 a week from the grocery store. Now, it got a little thin by Thursday and Friday...I won't eat Oatmeal or Cereal today. But man that was good times....

As a Kid I remember Humpty Dumpty being the King of the Supermarkets in this area. They were owned by Allied foods. There was some sort of economic problem and a lot of the Humpty Store Managers began their own businesses and soon the OKC market was a market full of private stores serviced by Fleming.....Cycles started all over again. There seemed to be a lot more service in the 50's and 60's at the privately owned stores. Jim's was one of them....Snyder's, Kimberlings, Crest Foods......Oh well///they'll be back... (just different names)

My wife teaches at Jefferson now...not like it used to be or like it should be....
My sister was the Latin teacher (of all things) when Jefferson first opened. I have never heard of Latin being taught in the public schools before or after that. Must have been a failed experiment. If so, I think I know why. One day I had to go see her at work to get her signature on something. The office told me just to go down to her room and knock on the door. It was ajar, however, and I stood outside a couple of minutes and listened in on the class. I was thoroughly embarrassed for her. My very own sister playing out the part of the proverbial ol' bitty teacher. GAWD! Bitch and hollar, bitch and holler. And she was only 24. I hated to enter the room and let those kids know that I was kin to her. Anyway, I doubt she created any enthusiasm for Latin at the middle school level.

And or course, we were always watching for the proverbial Alligator that was left by some "Crazy" guy and a lot of kids swear they saw it. then we would always go Crawdad fishing (string and a bad piece of bacon).....Don't forget when the creek got to the running stage during the rainy season, we jumped in the creek and rode the current as far as we could....(it's a wonder we didn't drown) and if my mother had ever known I would still be "GROUNDED" after 55 years.....I remember one year we had a tremendous snow storm and we made sleds out of car hoods etc....wooden planks and then I got this "Brilliant" idea to tie ourselves in a ladderback Rocking chair and slide down the creek bank...worked great for about 6-8 inches and then my face took over....hurt like crap but I wasn't going to say a word.....Cried on the way home though....

D@#$*!!!!...Right they hurt and then you turn around and the bigger kids who dared you were on the ground laughing their heads off....Did your parents ever spend $200.00 for fireworks back then??? You won't believe this. The last time our 12yr grandson was over I told him
there won't be any TV. Later he was in the backyard with an aluminum
mixing bowl on his head and a large stick. I don't know what he was being
