The sale formally closed today.

Such a great thing for the Skirvin, still one of my favorite places in OKC.

When I first saw this I thought "It was just refurbished". Then the story said it was 2007. Time flies.

Well you might be thinking of the 2016 renovation

So Coury Hospitality owns the hotel or they just manage it?

They just own it. I was told the operations were going back to Hilton to manage.

I was thinking of the 2007 complete redo after being empty for so long. I forgot about the 2016 redo. And I went to a wedding and reception there in 2016.

They just own it. I was told the operations were going back to Hilton to manage.

The past few posts have clouded this discussion. Coury Hospitality does not own the Skirvin, nor for that matter the Colcord. Coury is primarily a hospitality MANAGEMENT company, though I believe they do own some of their portfolio properties. When stated above that these investors also own the Colcord, that wasn’t a reference to Coury, who manages the Colcord but doesn’t own it.

Another way to say it is that the Colcord’s ownership group purchased the Skirvin.

Until the recent sale, the Skirvin was managed by Marcus Hotels and Resorts, and the property was OWNED by a partnership between Marcus and Skirvin Partners in Development, a public/private partnership formed by agencies of the City of Oklahoma City.

I don’t have specific insight to the new owners’ management intent, other than that multiple credible sources (for instance WSJ) are indeed reporting that the Hilton corporation itself will take over management, rather than a third-party management company such as Coury.

Nice.

I worked downtown when Chef Black previously worked out of the Skirvin. The Park Avenue Grill was one of favorite dinner places. The food was simply amazing and that spot is often overlooked when people discuss dining options downtown.

Excellent news. The restaurant is a great space that needs to be better utilized.

While Park Ave Grill was fine, just the attention Chef Black commands with the spotlight being on him, not to mention his great culinary reputation in this city already, bodes well for increased patronage.

Good! The Skirvin is by absolutely no means a dump but it’s time since the last renovation has been starting to show. Definitely a necessary refresh to keep up with all the new upscale offerings.

Agreed. I stayed there after my wedding a few years ago and was shocked at how outdated the rooms were for such a nice building.
