View Full Version : Fourth Largest Mall in America in Norman???? ETL 07-26-2006, 11:19 PM Will this come to pass??? How will this affect the city, state, and region??? I like the idea!!! Also, is the new Warren Theater going to be built or will it move to Norman??? Nuclear_2525 07-26-2006, 11:21 PM this thread is already in discussion in the Norman forum... soonerliberal 07-26-2006, 11:22 PM http://www.okctalk.com/norman/6270-9-story-embassy-suites-conference-center-unp.html OklaCity_75 07-27-2006, 12:12 AM Who called the thread cops....... who...... who...... who ........Who called the thread cops.. :kicking: :kicking: :kicking: Patrick 07-27-2006, 12:43 PM It won't be a typical mall. Look more for a strip mall collection of shops. mranderson 07-27-2006, 04:34 PM Maybe they should make it a REAL mall and close Crossroads. Nice attraction that would make... Then make Crossroads a prison. Their demographic target market would feel right at home. Patrick 07-27-2006, 04:40 PM They can just move the entire town of Valley Brook in there and lock the door. Disclaimer: If you live in Valley Brook I'm not trying to offend you. I just hope you own a big gun. ETL 07-27-2006, 05:02 PM I am confused. Will the entire 2.5 million sq. ft. be retail or a combination of that and office space? Also, I have heard that 500,000 sq. ft. will be some sort of “life center.” Are the Mall of America malls part office space too? Luke 07-27-2006, 05:04 PM Does a master plan exist online? It would be nice to take a gander at the plans. :) ETL 07-27-2006, 05:08 PM http://www.ci.norman.ok.us/ http://www.ci.norman.ok.us/government/pdf_files/06TIFProject-Posted05-16-06.pdf http://www.ci.norman.ok.us/government/TIFProject/TIFPresentation5-12-06.mht All I could find. :-( venture 07-27-2006, 05:53 PM http://www.leviscommons.com/ That is your typical Lifestyle Center as they are calling the Norman project. Not nearly as white trash as Patrick would let you think. In fact, I prefer them to traditional malls. Patrick 07-28-2006, 02:03 PM Strip malls aren't necessarily white trash. Just look at Quail Springs Marketplace. jbrown84 07-28-2006, 05:22 PM Quail Springs Marketplace isn't white trash, it's just REALLY boring--both in design and in the kind of stores it offers. Patrick 07-28-2006, 10:02 PM Quail Springs Marketplace isn't white trash, it's just REALLY boring--both in design and in the kind of stores it offers. Yup, I concur. OUman 07-30-2006, 10:54 AM Here's the new project in a nutshell-the mall is an "outdoor mall"-which is apparently trendy these days. It's not your regular strip mall, much better. there will be high-profile stores coming in (according to an article that came in the business section of The Oklahoman). In addition, yes, the new 500,000 sq. foot Lifestyles Center will be the main enclosed building with shops, businesss and restaurants. And then a huge park which will be created on the west side of 24th Ave. Although I don't know if a city with two Wal Mart Super Centers really needs a Super Target. OUman fromdust 07-30-2006, 01:14 PM Although I don't know if a city with two Wal Mart Super Centers really needs a Super Target. OUman emond has a super walmart, they might have 2. i know for a fact they are building another one, and they have a super target. so if edmond ( a smaller city ) can do all those super centers norman wont have a problem. BricktownGuy 07-30-2006, 05:21 PM These corporations do all types of market analysis before deciding to build a new store or to expand. Patrick 07-30-2006, 10:50 PM Super Target. Wow, that sounds like an upscale tenant for this outdoors mall. Sounds more like a strip mall tenant to me. ETL 07-30-2006, 11:48 PM Well, what kind of shopping is in thoes other LARGE malls? Shake2005 07-31-2006, 08:29 AM Go look http://www.mallofamerica.com/ Easy180 07-31-2006, 10:07 AM I for one am excited about the supertarget...have vastly different food options than walmart...probably won't step foot in the 19th walmart after it opens...it will make some serious money down in Norman w/ many shoppers from Moore and S. OKC heading there as well MikeLucky 07-31-2006, 10:11 AM whoever says that Norman doesn't need a Super Target because there are already two Wal-mart stores..... apparently doesn't grocery shop much..... :Smiley259 I will never set foot in a Norman Wal-Mart when the Super Target is open.... ETL 07-31-2006, 11:16 AM Do you think UNP will even be close to the Mall Of America? soonerliberal 07-31-2006, 11:47 AM The Mall of America is a totally different concept than UNP. The UNP concept consists of 5 - 6 upscale anchor stores, not including SuperTarget along with a two or three hundred smaller retail establisments, including ones not seen in Oklahoma yet, in a community like setting rather than in a mall setting. Since there are no site plans yet, no one is positive of how it will end up. From the information that has been released, it will most likely be more park based rather than just another massive suburban outdoor strip mall or outlet mall. The University group who owns the land have strict guidelines for the architecture, etc so no worries, it will be nice and expansive. ETL 07-31-2006, 12:09 PM Thanks for the info., so the UNP will be like a little downtown, but with just shops and restaurants and a park? Will this be the largest outdoor mall? Oh, will it have a Bloomingdale's and a Macy's because those are big stores that say something about the community? I know that no onewill probably know, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Patrick 07-31-2006, 09:59 PM Thanks for the info., so the UNP will be like a little downtown, but with just shops and restaurants and a park? Will this be the largest outdoor mall? Oh, will it have a Bloomingdale's and a Macy's because those are big stores that say something about the community? I know that no onewill probably know, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Yes, it will be more of an outdoors shopping mall, similar to Utica Square. There will be a Macy's at Crossroads. Don't bet on stores like Bloomingdale's moving to Oklahoma. ETL 07-31-2006, 10:02 PM Ok, why would Macy's stay in Crossroads. I thought Macy's and Blooningdale's were the sam. They both are to upscale for Crossroads. Patrick 07-31-2006, 10:10 PM Macy's has already announced they're staying at Crossroads for now. They own the building there. I do agree that Macy's is too upscale for Crossroads though. But, I think you're going to see Macy's come down to Foley's level. ETL 07-31-2006, 10:13 PM Well that sucks. I think they should get rid of Crossroads or upscale the place. Patrick 07-31-2006, 10:16 PM Well that sucks. I think they should get rid of Crossroads or upscale the place. You remind me of someone. You post on Hornets Central? ETL 07-31-2006, 10:18 PM No, I have never looked at Hornets Central. Maybe I should. Why? How do I sound? Patrick 07-31-2006, 10:25 PM Oh, you just remind me of a member over there. jbrown84 07-31-2006, 11:47 PM I think Macy's is not as upscale as it used to be. I saw one in Hawaii that was in a free standing building sharing a parking lot with a Target. And surely Crossroads in not the only example of a Foley's in a mall that is not up to Macy's standards. ETL 07-31-2006, 11:49 PM I had no clue as to what Macy's was untill I heard this news. OUman 08-01-2006, 10:26 AM Super Target. Wow, that sounds like an upscale tenant for this outdoors mall. Sounds more like a strip mall tenant to me. The Super Target will be the exception of course. Just because you have a Super Target there doesn't mean all other shops will be regular strip mall shops. The developers said they've been talking with high-profile stores and that they're looking at setting up shop there. Also, don't forget the new $50 million hotel and conference center (Sheraton I think?) which will be built there as well. And of course its location right by Westheimer Airport. OUman jbrown84 08-01-2006, 01:54 PM I had no clue as to what Macy's was untill I heard this news. Seriously?? Patrick 08-01-2006, 06:46 PM I had no clue as to what Macy's was untill I heard this news. Have you been living a sheltered life? ETL 08-01-2006, 10:02 PM What is you definition of “sheltered”? I have heard of it, but did not know what they sold. I don’t shop there, that is for sure. lol ETL 08-01-2006, 10:03 PM The Super Target will be the exception of course.
