IKEA was definitely looking around in OKC before the pandemic.
But I'm pretty sure there hasn't been any movement since.

CaptDave 02-19-2025, 04:41 PM Then why did you include it in an IKEA thread? Because this is the location rumored to be under consideration. bison34 02-19-2025, 05:32 PM Because this is the location rumored to be under consideration. I guess I missed where those rumors where, or didn't look far enough back up the thread. bombermwc 02-24-2025, 08:57 PM https://www.oudaily.com/news/north-norman-village-city-council-planning-commission-pre-development-meeting-apex-properties/article_a1e86f02-eb13-11ef-b4de-4f27dcffa4e0.html These plans don't show anything looking like an Ikea at this location Well Masterplans often look very different from what gets built. You get (or dont get) certain anchors and the plans change. This is the location that was speculated and discussed with the new turnpike and the road work Norman and Moore anticipate that to increase. It's a great location infilling between Moore and main Norman. I dont think another large stripmall area would do great with the volume of businesses along 35 in Moore and Norman. But anchor it with something like Ikea and it does change things a lot. Rover 02-25-2025, 02:13 PM Because this is the location rumored to be under consideration. Rumor. That's solid info. Rumor started by who? LOL bombermwc 02-25-2025, 04:08 PM Well you dont think someone with inside information is going to point to a reference article they scanned from the inside to share with just little ole us do you? Rumor and speculation from listening to "birds talk" is how a lot of the information here gets spread. Even if you're trolling the permit department, you're behind. We often already talked about it here before its public record. So short of Ikea Corp coming here saying Yes or No, what are you looking for? bison34 02-25-2025, 04:13 PM Well you dont think someone with inside information is going to point to a reference article they scanned from the inside to share with just little ole us do you? I mean, I heard a rumor that Chevron is moving their HQ here. That rumor has the same amount of credence, based on your logic. CaptDave 02-25-2025, 05:01 PM Rumor. That's solid info. This one at least has the appearance of making sense. LOL. All it takes on this site or other places is just someone willing to throw anything out there and the wolves will eat it up. It goes from "rumor" to "it has been reported", to "I've seen plans". The ones with honest and solid info tend to get ignored, it seems. Interesting fantasy is more attention getting than boring truth. The difference is that the stuff discussed here is usually from people that have connections to developers or are involved in side conversations. Much like a reporter. I laughed a lot at the video about "my source is i made it the F up". That's great. Someone should sent that to Steve Lackmeyer. But in seriousness, it's the old story of trusting your sources. You as the reader have to decide if the source you're reading from carries legitimacy or not. This thread has people that absolutely just hear from the rumor mill and the rumor has no base. But there are also informed people that while they may not be contractually involved in a project, very much have fact based information on said project. It's not up to me to tell you who to believe, it's up to you to decide who you should believe. I dont trust most people to make that call intelligently because they like to just believe that's easy/comfortable/what they want to hear. But that's the society we are in. Walter Cronkite is turning over in his grave and laughing. A vast swath ofThe American people have become dupes falling for rumors and conspiracy theories. Let’s wait til a really credible source actually presents facts before we ready our shopping lists for all the great OKC Ikea things. I think Panda brought that up and I don't think he fully believed it was credible or not. It was used in the context that "This probably won't happen because of the service roads no longer being build." So definitely take the rumor with a grain of salt. I’m not sure if I was the first or not, but I did bring it up. You are correct. When the turnpike were being opposed, and they were still fighting in court, I was talking with the people that were running the access Oklahoma plan. I had mentioned that I was excited about the prospect of a five stack interchange at I-35. What I was told was, a much sought after furniture store might be located at this interchange. But it was not a certainty. Though I was never told a name, I just suspected it would’ve been an IKEA. I don’t think Nebraska furniture Mart is going to locate here and I don’t think a rooms to go has been talked about much. The frontage Road elimination does suck, but I don’t know if that factors in to an IKEA being built here or not. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. I will say the site plan of the proposed development looks nice as it looks like to be a town center type development. But Norman can’t even finish the one they have had going for over a decade now, University North Park. If this is the preliminary plat for the development it does not look like any big box retailers will be coming here let alone an IKEA. But then again, who knows it could change. bombermwc 02-28-2025, 08:14 AM This is a message board. Internet forum. Social media. At least quote actual knowledgeable sources that admit they are speculating or making a wish list. Do we want this to be the equivalent of the National Enquirer or X where the more outrageous the more popular. This is a great forum for sharing information but is degrading to be a gossip site and i don't think that is what Pete wants. CaptDave 02-28-2025, 11:31 AM Even when that is clear, some cannot contain their need to feed their superiority complex. LOL For some reason I thought this was a shared information board, and not a gossip board. bombermwc 03-03-2025, 08:12 AM SO thoughts on Ikea.,.... If the store became a showroom and delivery point only, anyone else not understanding why they wouldn't' just build the whole thing? It seems inefficient to drive a track back and forth from one of the 4 DFW area stores, to OKC with just what was ordered. And from a customer's view, that means i have to come back again later to get it. Why would I want to do that? If they're going to use that model, then they should really just deliver it to me. Now if I ordered it online, and then had the option to pick it up at the OKC store, cool. But you have to have at least a showroom for people to walk around and touch the stuff. In a market where it would be the only store, people aren't going to really buy in to the whole online catalog thing just to go pick it up at some parking lot of a warehouse. That is going to limit the success of the store from the start. So in terms of OKC, I'd rather they build the whole thing or just not come at all. But also, the fact that they've built a 4th store in DFW and still haven't bothered to build one in OKC....pretty annoying. |
