Lao celebration set
Students of Laotian heritage will perform traditional dances during a celebration to honor graduating high school and college seniors.
The event, sponsored by the Lao-American Association of Oklahoma, begins at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lao Buddharam of Oklahoma Community Center, 7620 N Kelley.
Tickets, available at the door, are $10 for adults; free for children younger than 18 years of age.
Oklahoma City had 17 Laotian families in 1979, when the Lao-American Association of Oklahoma was organized to assist newly arrived Laotian refugees.
Today, the association estimates there are about 700 Laotians in Oklahoma, including 200 younger than 25.
