View Full Version : TapWerks
escan 03-06-2006, 09:41 AM Had friends in town from L.A. and they thought that Tapwerks looked like fun, so we hit it early on a Saturday. When we arrived, there were very few people there and we sat at the bar. We tried multiple beers and the bartender was very good about giving us samples of anything we wanted to try. I was very pleased to see that they now have my favorite on tap-Stella Artois. It's wonderful!
The food, however, was another story. The chips, queso and salsa were excellent. One friend had salad and soup and her salad was very wilted. Another friend and I split the cheese pizza-I actually think it may have been a frozen pizza; barely edible.
The verdict? Great bar! Love it to try beer, but if you're hungry, go somewhere else to eat first.

sweetdaisy 03-06-2006, 09:46 AM I agree, escan. Kellekokid and I went there later on Saturday night after the single's event. Great beer choices, but not a good meal venue...appetizers are probably the best bet.
Yeah, they've never done good food, imo. I think I once had shepard's pie that was okay. Maybe we should just stick with the bland food. After all, it is modeled after an English pub.
windowphobe 03-07-2006, 06:59 PM The emphasis, as it should be, is on the brewskis.
That said, I've schlepped visitors to Tapwerks, and they seemed to enjoy the place.
Midtowner 03-07-2006, 08:12 PM Their appetizers are great actually.
Randy 03-08-2006, 05:08 PM I'm sure the different beers killed your taste buds. Maybe all of you should check into joining AA. It sounds like all of you probably drink too much.
Midtowner 03-08-2006, 06:43 PM Randy, personal attacks are against the TOS.
For the record, I drink exactly enough.
windowphobe 03-08-2006, 06:44 PM I drink nothing stronger than pop.
Then again, pop would drink anything.
Getting a new sign:

Praedura 10-24-2013, 11:34 AM Any chances of something being built on either side of TapWerks? Would be nice to fill in that streetscape wall -- those empty spots on both sides always kind of bug me.
I understand that renovating/repurposing existing buildings in Bricktown is cleary the priority. But it would be nice to see some infill too.

Wow, I agree with this! I think part of the problem is that those "empty spots", in so many places in Bricktown, are huge moneymakers for the Brewer family.

Martin 10-24-2013, 04:16 PM holy cow... am i the only one seeing comic sans in the painted sign? why didn't they just use the same typeface as the new hanging sign? -M
Ginkasa 10-24-2013, 04:25 PM I think that's the old version? They were painting over it when I drove by about a half hour ago.
Martin 10-24-2013, 04:29 PM thank goodness. -M

Same Brewers that are holding the train station for ransom, I presume? Not my favorite people then.

I agree 100%, but those lots do serve our office and the tenants in the buildings across Sheridan during the day and they are at capacity. Don't make us walk in the cold winter months!
In all seriousness, the parking lot North of ACM needs to be mixed use, multilevel garage at base with residential above. Then this would give adjacent parking for the conversion of the floors above at 101 E Sheridan to residential...
soonerguru 10-24-2013, 11:49 PM I love "liking" posts on here from 2006. This board is really great.

Hey now, I don't want to do that! My name isn't E. Scrooge. :)
I'm just hoping that something gets developed down the line -- within 5 years, 10 years (well, hopefully sooner than that)... you know. Plenty of time to make new arrangements for parking.

Californians who've moved here think our winters put us in the Arctic zone.

That new hanging sign out front is bada$$!!!
bille 11-06-2013, 05:20 PM That new hanging sign out front is bada$$!!!
Agreed!
btw, that ABT 12, although freaking delicious, is ridiculously overpriced.
I like appetizers at bars rather than looking a meal. Nice things about apptz is everyone can order one and share. Meals not so much, and everyone enjoys their favorite adult beverage while yapping their heads off. Have not been in a pub in awhile and typing this is stirring up old longings.
Praedura 11-17-2013, 01:41 AM Incidentally, they did finish the new exterior re-paint:

And yes, the font now matches the sign:

That photo is from Finch Creative Group (http://finchok.com/works/branding), who designed the new logo & branding
Here's a better look at the new logo:
http://tapwerks.com/comingsoon.png
(This is from their website, tapwerks.com.)
One more thing... that wooly creature in the logo is a "Griffalo" - part griffin, part buffalo (oh yeah!)
TapWerks was conducting a naming contest for this critter here:
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=567711006635333&set=a.535035583236209.1073741826.140503452689426&type=1
Don't think they've picked a winner yet.
soonerguru 11-17-2013, 03:08 AM Great logo.
Martin 11-17-2013, 01:10 PM now that looks good. -M
Urbanized 11-17-2013, 02:28 PM Just an FYI, their menu has also been reworked and food there has greatly improved recently (I wouldn't say it was ever bad; it just wasn't anything special). I highly recommend the black bean soup, loaded (can't remember their term for "loaded"), and with filet tips added. It's top-shelf. Folks sometimes take TapWerks for granted. It is long-running, locally-owned, has food late, tries to stay open for downtown diners even in the case of things like snow and ice, and works hard to cater to LOCALS in addition to visitors. And also, beer.
RadicalModerate 11-17-2013, 02:42 PM Everything about the look connotes class. Not phony class. Real class.
I'm looking forward to visiting the place sometime.
Well done, TapWerks.
(and a tip o' the hat to Finch Creative Group)
Richard at Remax 11-18-2013, 09:23 AM I had the buffalo chicken soft tacos this weekend. they were great

I think the ABT 12 is definitely overpriced. We snatched up the 3 Liter of 2010 Chimay last week and it was delicious.

Moving or closing up? Hate to see them go.

Didn't they used to be at Grand & Western?

There was a place on the SE corner of Grand & Western... a converted gas station, I think. That was gone a long time ago.
Libbymin 10-21-2020, 05:49 PM Hudson’s and Tapwerks both closing within a month of each other in Bricktown. Two pretty big losses for Bricktown.
Although earlier, Chelino's too.

totally forgot about that until you mentioned it. according to a 1996 blurb in the oklahoman, '5700 north western' to be exact. there was an ad in june of 1999 saying that they were 'now hiring' for their bricktown location, dubbed 't2' in the ad.
that search also unearthed another forgotten gem of the early(ish) web... "connectok.com"
Martin 10-21-2020, 06:44 PM wasn't the current tapwerks building previously an architectural salvage store?
Bill Robertson 10-21-2020, 06:49 PM From their FB page:
Didn't they used to be at Grand & Western?I was going to ask the same question. I know there was a place there that had a ton of tap beer. In an old gas station. I'm about 99% sure it was Tapworks. I only went once because like the first post on here said you needed to eat somewhere else first. And I'm not very picky.
I think the building was also either Pumps or The Pump Bar & Grill after Tapworks moved to Bricktown.

You are correct. It was Pumps and it was great. Then it was Pumps Grill, then Tapwerks, then the redesign of the Western intersection pretty much ended it.

I think the old Tapwerks was knocked down and build on by Midfirst Bank, right on the corner of Classen. It used to be the spot.
Yeah, IIRC it was on that triangle just south of Grand and Western.
I'm very curious about where they will move. I'm digging into it.

OK. So I had the right names but in the wrong order. That's still doing pretty good for me anymore.
I've heard they are moving to Midwest City next to the Warren Theater.
