The Econolodge in Del City at I-40 and Sooner appears to have been abandoned. The City of Del City Condemned it back in August and the power was cut completely just a few weeks ago.

A little back ground.. This is an old 3 story former La Quinta with doors that open to the outside. This the same hotel where a violent armed robbery occurred in 2001 costing two employees their lives. It was pretty bad crime scene as I remember. La Quinta closed the lobby and operated out of a trailer while they did a complete remodel/redesign on the lobby. A few years later La Quinta moved their flag to a hotel just to the east of the Casey's and Holiday Inn Express.

I wonder if anyone here knows anything about its status, Many doors have been left/forced open and it appears that many squatters are taking up residence there. I would hope Del City and Midwest City are working on a solution because this could effect business at the nearby retail and restaurants. Not mention if could cause Midwest City to lose conventions as many small to medium sized conventions use the Reed Center.

No conventions won't go to the Reed Center because an Econolodge closed down. Please don't try to make this into a bigger thing than it is. There are still 5 way better hotels right there. A rundown, cheap motel closing isn't a bad thing.

If Del City has condemned, it won't be standing for too much longer. The city has been acting quick as of late to get rid of abandoned buildings

I hadn’t seen this thread, but over the weekend I happened to be driving past this property and needed to pull over to check something on my phone, so I randomly pulled into the parking lot. It was pretty astounding. Probably 80+% of the rooms had the doors and windows open with squatters coming and going from various units, clearly stripping stuff out of the rooms for recycle or resale. Lots of shopping carts. It was post-apocalyptic.

Happened to be by again today and noticed that, while the door ls and windows are still open the squatter activity isn’t obvious, as if possibly they were cleared out. And there is a crew of Del City workers who appear to be putting a tall fence around the property.

It has nothing to do with the hotel closing. It's the fact it's an eyesore that is being allowed to rot. If it were closed and building was secured I would not have posted anything about it.
