Does anyone know what is being built near SW 104th and Penn behind the carwash and Qdoba beside Shadow Lake? I hope it's not more apartments but it probably is.

Stealth_RN 07-02-2024, 07:59 AM I found a PUD application for "The Colony at Shadowlake" Duplex residential units 18982 Martin 07-02-2024, 10:36 AM that's great... i'll take this (or even apartments) over more self-storage units any day of the week. This area is starting to get some density which is nice as hopefully we will continue to get some of the restaurant/retail groups that have overlooked this area. btmec 07-02-2024, 10:34 PM I will second that. I really hate seeing that area get more developed. I remember being 5 years old and going to the Boy Scout/Cub Scout camp that used to be there in the mid-70s. The island and bridges are totally destroyed now from rot and erosion. I wish whoever owned it would have put some maintenance into the lake. When Shadow Lake and Southridge were still under construction, we went fishing on the island. The bridges were like new. Martin 07-03-2024, 06:57 AM I will second that. Martin 07-03-2024, 07:15 AM here are aerials from 1954 and 1969 where you can clearly see the bridges... like i say, i didn't realize that they had been there that long. 1899318994 Jeepnokc 07-03-2024, 07:38 AM Was there a Scout camp here also? I remember Camp kickapoo but that is further out west near SW119th and Council. It has been there since the 30's. Zuplar 07-03-2024, 07:49 AM Was there a Scout camp here also? I don't know if it's different but there is the John W Nichols Scout Ranch at SW 119th and S County Line Road. Martin 07-03-2024, 07:50 AM Was there a Scout camp here also? They used to have a boat house with canoes. There was diving boards and a smaller dock on the west side. I went there as part of a fishing day camp. There were probably 50-75 boys that day. I remember baiting a hook with a worm for the first time on my own. It was a nice little camp. When I moved to the area just 4 years later the Shadow Lake addition wasn't being built yet and Southridge was just starting. It had already been sold and the camp closed. I wish my older brother had taken a camera that day. I would love to have photos of what it looked like back then. |
