View Full Version : Cheba Hut
A new sub chain has leased a large space just east of Dunkin Donuts on 23rd.
They certainly have an interesting business model and I suspect more locations will be coming to the OKC area. In addition to the food, they will also have a full bar.

ABOUT CHEBA HUT TOASTED SUBS
Cheba Hut is a “Toasted” sub concept that has been curing munchies since its start in 1998. Founder Scott Jennings decided to showcase the harmony between great tasting food and … well, a very specific counter-culture. The menu features over 30 signature sub sandwiches, as well as a variety of Rice Krispy treats, salads and munchies. Most locations also offer craft beer bars that feature local beers from neighborhood breweries.
What really sets Cheba Hut apart, though, can only be experienced in our shops. We combine homegrown food with real people in a relaxed environment. Escape the established.

OkieBerto 04-05-2024, 11:27 AM This looks tasty, especially the vegetarian option with the marijuana leaf!

CaptDave 04-05-2024, 12:00 PM Pretty solid business model to locate adjacent to a weed store.......
Mballard85 04-05-2024, 01:16 PM They are amazing, I frequent every time I got to Colorado. The subs are out of this world!
Southsider2 04-05-2024, 01:25 PM This makes me so happy I never thought I’d see the day. I have friends in Colorado & I make sure we hit the hut at some point every time we visit.
EtanEiko 04-05-2024, 01:43 PM LFG!!!! Went to Cheba Hut in like 2013 in Boulder! So pumped OKC is getting one!!! What a perfect spot hopefully they stay open late Fridays and Saturdays!

Looks like their locations are open to midnight every night; 2AM on Fridays and Saturdays.
Ginkasa 04-05-2024, 02:14 PM I'm not really into the weed culture aspect of it, but I gotta admit those sandwiches look pretty good.

That is great news!!
Anonymous. 04-08-2024, 09:57 AM Oh heck yea, this place is going to kill. Even their treats are really good. Basically stoner recipes across the menu.
jedicurt 04-08-2024, 10:03 AM can't wait to get my Jamaican Red, Garlic Cheese Bread, and a krispy bar locally!!!!

What’s a stoner recipe? Maybe I’m more influenced by stoner culture than I realize but I’m not seeing anything that stands out as “this is stoner stuff” besides the counter-culture marketing.

Rice Krispy treat doesn't stand out, lol? Like, all of this would make delicious stoner food. When I was young and broke, a simple package of Ramen tasted like a rare delicacy when the munchies took hold.
FighttheGoodFight 04-09-2024, 03:34 PM Is Cheba looking anywhere else in the Metro? Edmond or Norman?
Is Cheba looking anywhere else in the Metro? Edmond or Norman?
I would assume so but have not heard anything specific.
Will be keeping an eye out.

Goo balls are a pretty classic stoner item at festivals. Usually heavily laced with thc.
OkieBerto 08-15-2024, 02:10 PM Looks like work has started on this new spot!

Reminds me of how Taco Bell corporate identified a large percentage of their late night customers were stoners somewhere around the 90s, so tweaked their marketing for that demographic.

Lol. Way before the 90s
Anonymous. 10-30-2024, 02:23 PM Opens 11/18/2024.
Mballard85 10-31-2024, 09:09 AM I cannot wait for them to open, unfortunatley my gas utilization is going to go through the roof driving from far NW OKC to 23rd all the time.
Cheba Hut opened today.
Open daily 10 AM to midnight; 2 AM on Fridays and Saturdays.

OkieBerto 11-18-2024, 02:30 PM I went for lunch today and it was packed of course. The service was great even with it being crazy in there. I thought the prices were fair and the food was delicious.
Note they are open until midnight, 2 AM on Friday and Saturday.
Lots of people have moaned about a lack of late-night food options, time to go patronize them.

The bar area was almost full even at lunch. I am sure there will be plenty of people who make this a late night stop.

burksooner 11-18-2024, 06:44 PM Can confirm it was packed this evening as well - as a former Denver resident, I am so happy they decided to open one here and definitely lives up to my memories from Colorado

LLLOVE their OKC Uptown hours: Midnight Sun-Thu nights with 2am closing Fri and Sat. Hopefully this will encourage more late night businesses in Uptown and other districts in the core to 'feed off each other" while enhancing the city's vibe (great for retaining young people).
For comparison, Seattle U District hours is 10pm closing with midnight Fri and Sat and 9pm Sun.
I would LOVE to see the Asian District restaurants stay open late as well. 39th Street is a given/must.

is it better than Planet Sub? that place was absolute fire while it remained open here.
catcherinthewry 11-19-2024, 10:02 PM Don't go during lunch hour if you're on a tight schedule. It took them 45 minutes to get me my sandwich.
burksooner 11-20-2024, 12:21 PM Even if no one else is there, they typically take ~10-15 minutes for subs to come out, but is well worth the wait

I tried Cheba Hut for the first time today. Tried both the Thai Stick (teriyaki chicken) and Pakalolo (ham, swiss, pineapple).
I'm just not a fan of toasted subs in general. They were both okay but they tasted pretty similar with little distinctive taste.
It's really cool inside with a big bar and good energy.
I recently had a Schlotzsky's Original and greatly preferred it; that's still a darn good sandwich. I like the fresher, brighter flavors of deli subs and Banh Mi.
Thomas Vu 12-29-2024, 08:42 PM It's closer to quiznos than planet sub.
josefromtulsa 01-02-2025, 12:23 PM My favorite thing is its just open later and you can walk there from the surrounding area.
I wish McDs and Taco Bell would add walk up windows to add to that.
