Pete 01-27-2024, 10:07 AM I can't remember a more dreary extended stretch of weather. We get cold and heat and everything in between, but it seems like it's been 10 days since we've seen the sun. SEMIweather 01-27-2024, 10:16 AM If the sun has come out at all since Sunday Morning, I must have missed it. So it’ll be about a week straight of clouds when all is said and done. And fog and drizzle and dampness... I'm on the verge of weather-induced depression. I'll be outside all day tomorrow! citywokchinesefood 01-27-2024, 01:16 PM And fog and drizzle and dampness... I'm on the verge of weather-induced depression. I'll be outside all day tomorrow! Remember to embrace the fresh air and any sunlight that manages to peek through the clouds. The worst winter I remember was 1977 or 78. It started with a heavy snowstorm on New Year's Eve. I couldn't get out of the driveway to go anywhere. From then on there was always snow on the ground to some extent clear to early March. It was because the weather usually stayed cloudy between cold fronts and snowstorms, so the snow never could fully get melted. There has never been a long winter like it since. It was 78. 23.7 inches for the year. The 3rd highest total ever. Mississippi Blues 01-27-2024, 05:03 PM Was out in Okarche today and the sun came out when leaving. That was one of the biggest dopamine spikes I’ve had in my life. Boop 01-27-2024, 05:05 PM The weather should be nice over 60 degrees all week so enjoy it while it lasts! Bill Robertson 01-27-2024, 05:31 PM The weather should be nice over 60 degrees all week so enjoy it while it lasts! The Miata gets uncovered and gets some Jan/Feb miles on her!!! bison34 01-27-2024, 05:41 PM The Mesonet rainfall map shows my frustrations. Basically everywhere around OKC gets over an inch of rain, and SE OKC gets barely .5. It becomes frustrating to see. Looking forward to more cracks developing in the area like last summer. Bowser214 01-27-2024, 10:23 PM Just heard winter storm next Sunday night. SEMIweather 01-27-2024, 11:33 PM Next weekend looks very rainy but I wouldn't expect there to be enough cold air for any winter precipitation. LakeEffect 01-28-2024, 08:16 AM Next weekend looks very rainy but I wouldn't expect there to be enough cold air for any winter precipitation. NWS showed a graphic this morning with a probability of winter storm impacts in the Panhandle, but rain in central OK. Bill Robertson 01-28-2024, 09:41 AM The last GFS and CMC runs don't show anything wintery in central OK as far out as they go. Bowser214 01-28-2024, 10:45 AM I"m not going to call out a station or weather person but it was on Friday evening's 10 o'clock weather cast. But they didn't mention the exact location but that they were tracking a "snow storm." I hate it when they do that. lol Bill Robertson 01-28-2024, 01:36 PM I"m not going to call out a station or weather person but it was on Friday evening's 10 o'clock weather cast. But they didn't mention the exact location but that they were tracking a "snow storm." I hate it when they do that. lol Exactly why I don't watch TV weather forecasts. I watch the models myself and read posts on here from the people who know more of the science than I do. Bunty 01-29-2024, 12:47 AM The Miata gets uncovered and gets some Jan/Feb miles on her!!! I don't bother with covering my 2014 Miata retractable hardtop, maybe I should, but I sure have to periodically put it on the battery recharger to keep the battery topped up. Bunty 01-29-2024, 12:53 AM The channel 4 TV weatherman said Sunday night that Oklahoma City and Stillwater both went 17 days in a row with the temperature staying below 50 degrees. Surely lots of other Oklahoma towns can say the same. I guess that is kind of unusual even for January. Worse unusual had it been for below 32 degrees. It looks like 60s for the rest of the week until weekend. Bunty 01-29-2024, 01:07 AM It was 78. 23.7 inches for the year. The 3rd highest total ever. WOW, but I easily believe it! I recall having to pick up a coworker, who didn't have a car, at least once or twice because he didn't want to walk through the snow as deep as it was. Being younger back then I wasn't too intimidated by driving in the snow. It was just a cold aggravation to carefully put up with. At least there wasn't a sheet of glare ice to have to drive on. I've had the top up twice since I've had her. When caught out in an unexpected shower. I just cover the cockpit to keep the interior from getting so dusty. "We are tracking a winter storm for the end of the week. More after the break" It is always one county in the panhandle that will see the winter storm jn1780 01-29-2024, 08:05 AM Technically speaking they are storm systems that are occurring in the winter. :) lol Pete 01-29-2024, 08:11 AM The news stations also keep showing the recent ice storm in their promos, even though that is well in the past and there is nothing like that in the foreseeable future. And BTW, Holy pothole! Driving all over town yesterday I saw the aftermath of that ice and bitter cold. The weather here is very inventive in the way it brutalizes all of us. And even worse in a new car Pete!! BG918 01-29-2024, 03:07 PM Amazing late-January weather this week - sunny with highs in the 60's and lows in the 40's. Rain moves in Friday and sticks around through Saturday night. At this time eastern OK looks favored for the heaviest amounts but could change. EURO through Sunday night: https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis/models/ecmwf/2024012912/ecmwf_apcpn_scus_51.png The year is starting off well for rainfall across the state, hopefully this continues through spring into summer (typically it does in El Nino years): https://data.mesonet.org/data/public/mesonet/maps/daily/drought/delseason_rain.current.png?cache_bust=170656248219 8 Bill Robertson 01-29-2024, 03:07 PM Last couple GFS and CMC runs have no foreseeable snow in OK, KS or NE. Northern jet stream must be predicted to stay north. I love it!!!!!!! jn1780 01-29-2024, 03:11 PM Car washes printing money this week. "Printing Money?" I was wondering why so many are being built. These must be mob run car washes. I'm sure legitimate money being made this week with the great weather. corwin1968 01-30-2024, 01:42 PM "Printing Money?" I was wondering why so many are being built. These must be mob run car washes. I'm sure legitimate money being made this week with the great weather. Like you said, they must be lucrative but based on the costs of building, maintaining, water, power and chemicals, it's hard to believe they are profitable. But they must be, given how many are being built. Anonymous. 01-30-2024, 03:47 PM I went to one of those big chain car (Coulter?) washes with membership subscriptions the other day and it was packed. I will say I played myself due to not reading the menu correctly. They list the single-use washes on the screen from highest cost being the top #1 option, and the cheapest down toward the bottom. I just wanted a basic wash to get off the salt and ended up selecting the highest tier (which was $25) without even realizing my mistake. I think there was just two workers (both teenagers) at the entire complex because the process is almost entirely automated. I would guess profit margins are pretty good for them. Boop 01-31-2024, 03:01 PM I am really enjoying the beautiful weather while it lasts! At least Spring will be here soon next month tomorrow Bill Robertson 01-31-2024, 03:26 PM I am really enjoying the beautiful weather while it lasts! Of course people that see me in the mornings all wrapped up with the top down may question my sanity. Celebrator 02-01-2024, 12:02 AM Yeah! Might make a whole week of driving the Miata. In Jan/Feb.
