View Full Version : Andretti
A deal has been signed for Oklahoma's first Andretti Indoor Karting & Games.
http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/andretti10.jpg
The huge facility will contain a multi-level track for electric super-karts, a state-of-the-art arcade, virtual reality attractions, professional racing simulators, bowling, and high-tech mini golf.
Andretti will also offer a food menu, full bar, and 10,000 square foot event venue, popular for birthday parties and other celebrations.
The complex will be south of Flix Brewhouse on Broadway Extension between Britton and Wilshire in The Half development.
In addition to Flix, The Half is also home to the popular Chicken N Pickle and Dolese Headquarters. Under construction are the BroadVue apartments with restaurants planned along the south shore of the small lake.
Andretti was founded in 2001 in Orlando, Florida. Oklahoma City would be its 10th location joining others in Florida, Texas, Georgia, and Arizona.

Anonymous. 05-25-2023, 08:29 AM Perfect location! Good to see legit karting come back to OKC.
Mballard85 05-25-2023, 08:30 AM This is a huge get for OKC, the location in Frisco is always busy it seems.
bombermwc 05-25-2023, 08:56 AM Love me some gocarts! There are a couple of nice indoor ones around and this will be a great addition. The true multilevel massive track is awesome.
The indoor go kart track that was on 36th and May where Locke Supply is now didn’t last.
MagzOK 05-25-2023, 09:16 AM This is awesome! We've been multiple times to Andretti in The Colony and it's top notch all around.
chssooner 05-25-2023, 09:42 AM The indoor go kart track that was on 36th and May where Locke Supply is now didn’t last.
You said the reason why...36th and May versus a mixed-use entertainment complex with other well-known options nearby.

Forgot about that. Pole Position?
Dr Beard Face 05-25-2023, 09:51 AM Forgot about that. Pole Position?
yeah! Pole Position was awesome, but it was far more basic than this is and it was a terrible location. I think this is the style of Go Karts people really want. The neon and multiple levels/ tracks will help everyone feel more speed and excitement!
G.Walker 05-25-2023, 10:30 AM I like how these "branded' mixed-use developments are coming along all over the city. Between The Half, Chisholm Creek, and OAK, all offer something unique. But seems like they are competing. The problem with OAK is they really have limited room to expand. But with The Half and CC seems like the possibilities are endless. But out of all of them, I would say The Half is growing on me.

Agreed! I like that they aren't all in one place. OAK will get theirs. CC having TopGolf (and I'm sure more will be coming there), Half having CnP and Flix, and now this. I like that they are all over. Just wish the Southside could get something.
G.Walker 05-25-2023, 10:57 AM I agree, something between Norman/Moore would work. But UNP is pulling all the weight for everything right now. But it does not have any entertainment options besides Chuck E Cheese, lol.

I actually think "lack of room to expand" is a feature of OAK, not a bug. It is positioning itself as more exclusive than the other two and the limited availability will create competition that ensures they will get who they want, instead of feeling the need to fill an endless amount of space with whatever the next franchised experience is to come down the pike.
I do not mean that as a slight to Half or Chisholm Creek, just that the three are going for different markets. And that's fine, and healthy.

the OAK will continue to buy the surrounding neighborhood and continue to expand

I hope they don't.
I do hope they do something nice with the car wash land across the street.

Well, OK. It's not my investment or my hill to die on. I just think there is only so much "high level" retail and food that is going to come to OKC and I would hate to see this center diluted over time to include any chain that can make a lease payment. I suppose time will tell.

i agree with you there and i think they are being very very deliberate with how quickly they expand and what they bring in ..

The Half still feels more like a destination entertainment place rather than mixed use. Maybe I'm missing something there. I am at Chisholm Creek on a regular basis, sometimes shopping, sometimes eating/drinking, and sometimes entertainment. With The Half it's pretty much going to a movie or meeting someone at Chicken and Pickle. I'm excited about Andretti's and will certainly be a customer, but to me this place still isn't feeling mixed use as much as just a large plot of land with a couple of businesses. It just doesn't seem to have the identity that Oak will have (IMO) or that Chisholm Creek has now. To me calling it mixed use is like calling the Academy space on Broadway in Edmond "mixed use" because there's a trampoline park next door and a restaurant in the parking lot.
The Half is just getting started.
The apartments will open soon, they have several new-to-market restaurants on the hook, will be adding a hotel and will also have that 50-acre parcel to develop that extends south all the way to Britton.

Yes.

This is an excellent point. The difference between The Half and the other two seems to be the amount of "mixing" going on. I don't get the sense there is going to be a lot of "wandering around, going in and out of places" at The Half the way there is at Chisholm Creek or there will be at OAK. At The Half you may spend all night at Chicken and Pickle or two hours at the movie theater. Again, not a criticism. Different animals.
There will be several restaurants along the lake in a similar setting as Chisholm.

That's awesome, and to be clear, I'm not down on The Half. I just don't currently feel like there's much there "yet" to give it that identity. I do think the additional restaurants, the hotel and stuff will really help with that. And I am excited for what's coming.
G.Walker 05-25-2023, 02:37 PM I also like the fact that there are more entertainment destination options in the city. It doesn't now always have to be "oh lets just go to Bricktown".
ourulz2000 05-25-2023, 02:45 PM Awesome new attraction for OKC. The Colony location on 121 is such a hub of activity. There is also another one going in on I-35W in Alliance in N Ft Worth. This will be a boom for OKC.
G.Walker 05-25-2023, 02:47 PM Only problem with The Half is if your coming south on 235, you have to go all the way down and exit on Wilshire, and come back north on the Broadway Ext service RD.

This would arguably be quicker than exiting at Britton even if there was an entrance to the Half off of Britton.

Especially with the Texas turnaround at Wilshire.
soonerguru 05-25-2023, 03:44 PM Love this! Seems like a super-cool concept.
OkieBerto 05-26-2023, 11:06 AM This development keeps surprising me. I have spent way more time and money at the Half than I have at the Chisholm Creek development.
stlokc 05-26-2023, 12:36 PM Upthread I wrote a couple of entries that described, in my mind, The Half as compared to OAK and Chisholm Creek. In another thread I voiced strange misgivings about some of the way this development is being designed, etc. Certainly not meant to be negative towards The Half, but have just thought a few things were odd about it.
But I do want to say something here more broadly. I am thrilled that high-quality development is happening in this location. This part of town has sat fallow for literally my entire life as growth has raced to distant points northwest. The growth pattern in north OKC has been really awkward. Logically, Broadway Extension should literally be the central spine of the whole north side and yet it has occupied this weird place that almost makes it seem like it's on the periphery. I think one reason why is that the nature of some of the neighborhoods for the first mile and a half west of the highway (before you get to Nichols Hills/The Village) can be described as "challenged" economically. In many cities and at many points in time that would have been really hard to overcome. But if this mile down to Wilshire fills in with quality development as Pete has indicated, and if it spawns more going north maybe to Hefner and beyond, I think it can serve to bring massive new energy and maybe even help those neighborhoods over time. I love to see it.

I think that is already happening with the medical offices north of Britton and the McBride hospital. There is a new building going up every week it seems. Now for the restaurants to get going. Chicken and Pickle is it unless you want to drive. Even then it is a food desert.

I know most people don't do this, but you can eat and drink at Flix without seeing a movie. There are even some outdoor seating.

So my wife and I actually arrived early for a movie one time and thought to get a drink and maybe an appetizer or something before going in to the theater, but when we asked someone where/how to order they just said we'd order in the theater.
We just sorta "um okay"d it and did our thing in the theater. Still not sure where one would order. We were just awkwardly ignored at the bar until we flagged someone down and got the answer previously mentioned.
I'm sure it was a one off but it sure was weird.

Was that recent? Covid and labor shortages messed a lot of things up.

It was late last year. And to be clear I'm not really worried about it. We had a good time and would go again. Pete's comment just reminded me of that experience.

What about the new Belle Isle HS. I remember reading that it would be at " Broadway and Wilshire"

Actually if you take this street after the movies or chick n pickle you can catch the ramp back onto Broadway extension. Otherwise, you have to stay on access road past the light to get on the bdway ext.

Dirt turning on this yet? I don't drive by the location often, so is this still a thing?
Urbanized 12-07-2023, 02:49 PM When I was in Orlando last month I visited the Andretti’s there, and by chance the regional manager over the Texas region (includes OKC) was on site. We spoke for a few minutes and after hearing I was from OKC he volunteered how much his team is looking forward to the opening. Asked me a bit about the market, and I was happy to share anything that might be helpful. It’s still very much a thing.
Bump.

No site work yet as they filed for their building permit in late October and are still working through that process.
