We all know that this "world renown" strip club is located in the WeMac area (West Of MacArthur) on NW 10th Street but was that the original OKC location ?

Bill Robertson 05-24-2023, 08:52 AM I wasn't aware it was ever anywhere else. It's been where it is since at least the mid 70s. Pete 05-24-2023, 10:16 AM It was originally at 7118 N. Western and I believe it opened around 1968. It moved sometime in the 70s to the current location after complaints from neighbors. In fact, it was shut down by the City for this reason. Martin 05-24-2023, 10:31 AM ^i'm surprised something like that operated so close to nichols hills. looking at that address... it looks like it went from being a strip club to being a strip center. (i'll show myself out) Bill Robertson 05-24-2023, 11:04 AM I've learned something. Didn't know it was on Western. First time I went in was in 76 or 77 where they are now. I just looked up the Western address. The "Day Spa" where my wife gets her hair done is right behind there. A strip club would definitely not fit in that area now. The owner's family are long time OKC residents and his kids went to JM and Casady. As I recall, that building was razed and the shopping center, Gaslight Square, was developed by Breene Keer (Aubrey's uncle) who spent most of his life in the Chesapeake Bay area (hence the name). At the time Sammy's pizza was all the rage in the shopping center to the north, and you had a A&W Drive In to the south where West and Hideaway used to be. Pete 05-24-2023, 01:42 PM ^ I found an article advertising the grand opening of the Red Dog in 1968. The Shadow 05-24-2023, 01:48 PM Given it's history, I would be curious if it was originally "all-nude?" Bill Robertson 05-24-2023, 02:58 PM Given it's history, I would be curious if it was originally "all-nude?"It was indeed! I don't remember exactly when OKC banned nude dancing wherever alcohol is served but all the places I went in the 70s and 80s were totally nude. Jeepnokc 05-24-2023, 03:09 PM Both make your blood pressure rise but only one is aesthetically pleasing… It has been many years since I have been in the Red Dog or similar establishment but I am guessing you think Strip malls are eye pleasing as the talent at red dog was lacking Plutonic Panda 05-24-2023, 05:16 PM It was indeed! I don't remember exactly when OKC banned nude dancing wherever alcohol is served but all the places I went in the 70s and 80s were totally nude. Is all nude still banned in OKC? I wish they’d bring that back. Men or woman it’s nice to go to an all nude bar and drink and watch dancers. rayvaflav 05-24-2023, 09:36 PM The reason that I bring this up is that I was talking to a friend last evening who was a partner in the property at 8310 N. Western Ave, it's now been in business for quite a while as Classics Bar & Grill. When they purchased this worn out building sometime in the late 1980's they removed the heavy wood soffit from the front of the building they uncovered the long hidden curved glass blocks. They also uncovered a sign that read "Table Dances $5.00". When they applied for the permit to open the bar the application process was open to the general public and if anyone who had a problem with this bar reopening, they could speak. One old guy who lived in the neighborhood objected because he "didn't want that strip club reopening, the neighborhood was better without having The Red Dog in that building any longer". The area sounds close with what was posted above but I dunno ... It's a pretty interesting theory. 18048 Bill Robertson 05-25-2023, 05:14 AM Is all nude still banned in OKC? A couple places have tried being nude with no alcohol sales but none lasted long. gjl 05-25-2023, 09:19 AM I went to the Red Dog the first time in 1976 where it is now. Wednesday nights were amateur dancer nights and if you got there early and got a table up close to the stage you had a good chance of being picked to be a judge. Lets just say the judges got special attention by the dancers. My last time thee was in 1991. I had my bachelor party there here i was told to get up on the stage in a chair and sit on my hands while the ladies danced around me. In the 80s where i worked we would occasionally have engineers from Bell Labs in Chicago come visit our plant. It never failed that they always asked if we would take them to this place called the Red Dog that they had heard about. So we would usually take then there to grab lunch. Their burgers were actually pretty good. Ryan 05-25-2023, 11:07 AM I went to the Red Dog the first time in 1976 where it is now. WeMac? Do people actually say that? Never even heard this term before. jerrywall 05-25-2023, 02:40 PM It was indeed! I don't remember exactly when OKC banned nude dancing 1983 IIRC. The city council banned it after the Tulsa ban was upheld by the state supreme court. They also managed to run the peepshows out of town (even though they didn't serve alcohol). I know my grandfather was involved in both of these efforts in his role as founder of Oklahomans Against Pornography (he also got the playboys out of 7-11 and the playboy channel off of multimedia cable around this same time period). billokc 05-25-2023, 07:26 PM 1983 IIRC.
