The popular food truck, Big Biang Theory, is set to open a brick-and-mortar location in Film Row just west of downtown.

They will bring their popular Asian-influenced hand-pulled noodle dishes but will also feature an evolved and expanded menu with such items as a braised beef bowl and curry noodle dishes. Big Biang recently won Best Savory dish at the 2023 Festival of the Arts.
They plan several vegan-friendly items plus creative cocktails and a large beer selection.
The address is 704 W. Sheridan which is just west of Joey's Pizzeria and near OK Cider Co., the Jones Assembly, Flashback Retropub, and the newly opened Sun Cattle Company. Also, stay tuned for a new gourmet sandwich shop in the old Caeli's space.
The new restaurant should be open in a few months.

They are great! I had them at the Art Festival a couple weeks ago.

I’ll second that!

Jeepnokc 11-15-2023, 08:47 AM Are the prices on the menu that are slashed soft opening pricing? Neither of the prices match the prices listed on the online menu when I tried to figure it out myself. Looks like the website menu may be for the food truck though.

Slashed prices were soft opening; believe the restaurant prices are what is marked out.
CS_Mike 11-15-2023, 10:14 AM I'm excited this is finally open. My wife and I love the food.
One complaint though is their use of the word Jap as a shortened form of jalapeno. I'm half Okinawan and had the slur "Jap" hurled at me as a kid once, so I bristled when I saw the word on the menu.

Probably better stay away from any Korean restaurants... And technically "jap" would be pronounced "hap" with this usage.

i was just looking at the menu and that also stood out to me as an odd choice.

Believe the owner and chef is Laotian and I know English is not his first language.
I'd give the guy a break -- super nice dude and works has arse off.
Martin 11-15-2023, 03:18 PM oh... i'm totally checking this place out anyway. the food looks amazing. for me it just raised an eyebrow, that's all.

This comes off as very condescending, although maybe that wasn't your intent. I'm not going to read "japchae" and associate it with an ethnic slur, so I think I can handle going to a Korean restaurant just fine. And heck, I can even handle going to THIS restaurant despite my initial reaction to seeing the word as I know it's not intended to be used in that context. I just pointed it out since many people (including these owners) may not be aware of the negative connotations of the term.
Harbinger 11-17-2023, 07:07 PM This place is definitely a hit. My friends and I attempted to eat here tonight, but there was an hour and a half wait. We were pressed for time or else we would have waited.
When are you guys going to learn to take into account the OKCTalk Effect?
Not to be braggy but it's true: anything we feature is going to be swamped for at least a couple f weeks.
Cocaine 11-18-2023, 01:23 AM My only issue with this place the lack of an option for traditional biang biang. Everything has been stepped on five times more than coke you’d buy off of 10th and council. And I didn’t know about the egg rolls with that slur on them and that is a bit alarming to see they went through with adding that to the menu. The one time I ate there the food was good though. No idea when I’ll eat there again because if I’m in the area I would usually end up at flashback playing games or getting an onion burger. Or having a drink at that cider place sooner or later I’ll hit up before I leave though.

It's only negative if taken out of context... Which you just admitted you did... And I was being sarcastic... expressing contempt and mockery... Not being patronizing.
Cocaine 11-18-2023, 05:32 PM I actually ended up going against everything I said and just ate here right away. They added the tradition noodles and they no longer have an ethnic slur on their menu. Still okay for the most part and I kinda wanna know where they get their noodles from though.
^
They make and hand-pull their own noodles.

Serious question... Are you saying you were mocking my visceral reaction to seeing a slur on a menu? Or am I misunderstanding the intent of your sarcasm?
Roger S 11-19-2023, 09:35 PM Serious question... Are you saying you were mocking my visceral reaction to seeing a slur on a menu? Or am I misunderstanding the intent of your sarcasm?
I'm mocking you for making a slur out of a term that wasn't a slur.... As I said above.... The pronunciation of Jap in that context would not even be in the context you are pronouncing it in... It would be pronounced Hap. The J in Jalapeno is pronounced as an H.

Wow, I was really trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, hoping I misunderstood your message, but I guess you actually were trying to be a d*ck.
First off, jap isn't an actual abbreviation for jalapeno, so I would venture that the average person might READ the word and automatically pronounce it in their head as "jap" and not "hap", regardless of the context or intent. And that is what happened in my case, which immediately triggered a subconscious reaction due to my own personal trauma with the word. The gut reaction happened before I even had an opportunity to investigate the context. And apparently that's worthy of being mocked? Am I a snowflake because I happened to be subjected to racist derision in junior high while you may have been fortunate enough to not have to deal with that kind of crap? Do you think I'm the only person of Japanese descent in this city who might have a similar reaction?
I always enjoyed your takes on the food scene in this city, so I'm honestly disappointed to see this side of you.
Will Dearborn 11-20-2023, 12:49 AM No one pronounces jap as "hap" - that's not a thing.
No reason to think it's meant to be hurtful but let's be serious here.
Martin 11-20-2023, 07:19 AM alright... let's get back to topic.
fortpatches 12-16-2023, 11:19 AM Who runs/owns this place btw?
Who runs/owns this place btw?
The same guy (believe he's Laotian) that launched the popular food truck.
Also believe he did most the interior buildout.
BridgeBurner 12-18-2023, 09:14 AM Place is great, I have been going to their food truck/booth at arts festival for years.
For some reason when I was there they did not have the option to add chicken/goku steak to the traditional advertised on the menu at all but it at least got me to finally try something new there lol.
Just checked their social media and it looks like they updated the menu a couple days ago to reflect the original options from the food truck, good deal.
fortpatches 12-18-2023, 10:50 AM We went there Saturday. They did have the option to add Chicken (+$4 I think).
The food was pretty good. But seems like they are having some growing pains. They did not have any to-go containers at all, which was kind of disappointing.

No to-go containers is crazy for somewhere that only existed as a food truck like a month ago lol
okatty 12-18-2023, 07:35 PM I went Saturday late afternoon and we did get to-go containers, so we must have taken the last two!:D. Sorry about that! Ha

Hmmm, maybe they got more after we left then....
She went back to check for two different types of togo containers.
We were there at 11:15-12:00ish.
okatty 12-20-2023, 08:44 PM Yes we were there 4-5 range. Ordered one take out and also a to-go box for what we had there. So must usually have them and just ran out (hopefully).
Thomas Vu 12-22-2023, 07:23 PM Glad to hear they added to the menu. When I last went they said they had their menu and it was different from the food truck. What I had was good, but wasn't going to go back cause I didn't get what I wanted.
fromdust 09-19-2024, 10:18 AM They've posted on social that they are struggling mightily because of low sales, and asking for patrons. Let's go, guys! We don't need another local restaurant on the closed now thread.

I saw that and went today and holy hell so did everyone else. They had to call in all staff, plus the owner, plus some of the staff of Joey's Pizza next door. Even with all this help I did not get my food for 1.25 hours and I had to leave to go back to work. But I ain't even mad.

Haha man, I tried to get people to go there today glad I missed that.
Bowser214 09-19-2024, 03:16 PM Sailor and Dock posted on their FB yesterday to go give them some business.
Anonymous. 09-19-2024, 04:41 PM These companies should pay OKCTalk for story promotions. It would keep their names in front of the right audience more frequently.
77K IG and 120K FB (mostly local) followers is no joke.

If you have to rely on IG and FB to stay in business you’re focusing on the wrong thing as a restaurant owner.
kukblue1 09-19-2024, 05:40 PM Never been but as I posted on another thread restaurant business are hurting. Sept/Oct are always a slow time and people don't have savings and extra income right now. I know new restaurants open all the time doesn't mean they making a profit.
Will Dearborn 09-19-2024, 05:40 PM The two times I've gone this year, the food was meh and the service was worse.
