No Mow May. I just now heard about this. Supposed to bee for the pollinators. (see what I did there) What do you think about it and would you participate? I'm pretty sure I'll continue mowing my yard when it needs it.

Sounds like a good way to get a fine from the city... You would be better off using that money to build a pollinator garden.

First I’ve heard of it.

Very well said. The City Action Center will be filled with plenty of valid complaints.

What a dumb idea. Though the city could sell tickets to the code enforcement court hearings where the landowners think that saving pollinators is a defense for violating municipal code.

How tall does grass have to get in OKC to get a violation? I think it's pretty high. I doubt it can get that high in one month. Just google no mow may.

In most yards, it wouldn't be the grass getting too tall, it'd be the weeds.

I think that would only work if you didn't spray and had dandelions /clover/other flowering weeds coming up in your yard. I don't think letting a yard full of Bermuda grow tall for a month would do anything for pollinators. So it really wouldn't be anything you could just decide to do without planning for it over the winter.

You also get like 5-10 days to mow it, so unless it rains like a son of a gun, you could potentially make it a month

May is usually a good month to transition the cutting height upwards anyways. Unless you're trying to grow a putting green, or have a hybrid bermuda (ie, Tifway 419, etc.) keeping the lawn at about 3-4" high will keep moisture in soil.
If you wish to participate in No Mo May but are worried about what neighbors may think, keep the edges trimmed and the let the actual yard go wild. I bet few will notice.
Reminder that if you don't mow all May, you'll want to make the first cut with mower on highest setting.

Bermuda cultivars (and even builder grade varieties) should never be higher than ~1.5 inches.

3 or 4 is TTTF territory according to the grass bois at OSU
