View Full Version : Palomar
The Palomar Family Justice Center is a MAPS 4 project that is starting to take shape.
These designs have not received final approval but should be very close to what is built. Architect is AHMM.
This will be directly west of their current site (also owned by Midtown Rennaisance) and contain a cafe with a patio on the southeast corner.
Also, you can see a parking garage will be built to the immediate west and to the south of that -- on the north side of Park Place -- will be housing. MR's holdings are shown in green in the last image.

Plutonic Panda 04-22-2023, 12:36 PM This area is going to be unrecognizable in a decade.
The real question is what will become of that huge block where Palomar current is located.
City Garden was always meant to be a temporary use, so that whole block will eventually be developed.

Trader Joe’s would be ideal.
citywokchinesefood 04-22-2023, 02:40 PM Trader Joe’s would be ideal.
In a perfect world I would love to see a grocery store and some retail/offices on the ground floor with a few levels of apartments above it.
If Trader Joe's was to expand, it would be to Edmond and/or Norman/Moore.
Probably the best bet for a grocer would be Aldi.
Here are some better renderings:

CPin405 08-31-2023, 07:17 PM That is a good design. I dig it. And it’s a massive improvement over the semi derelict parking lot that is there now. And as Pete mentioned, the lot due east is a huge missing piece in Midtown. That land has to be way too valuable to stay as is.
Anonymous. 09-01-2023, 07:37 AM ^This area really needs a massive housing complex + public garage. Something akin to West Village in this area would be a big deal. City Garden is basically just a corpse sitting on that prime corner.
soonerguru 09-01-2023, 02:36 PM Nice. Very progressive design.
progressiveboy 05-24-2024, 03:58 PM Is this still happening? Have not seen any activity?

Yes, they are going through the process of getting their building permit.
Very recently, they demolished City Garden to make way for Midtown Mutts dogpark, which has to be moved for the new Palomar complex.
burksooner 12-14-2024, 11:02 AM And $2.2M from Tif 2's Hotel/Commercial Development budget category. Sounds like it will have 309 spaces, with 130 dedicated to Palomar specifically
You can see a vague outline of the garage in the first post on this thread; no permits or design review applications have been filed for the garage itself.
My understanding is there will be a small amount of housing to the south and perhaps to the west as well. The only part of the garage that would be visible would be from the north. I'm sure it will be nondescript.
rayvaflav 12-14-2024, 12:21 PM Looks like we're gonna' lose the MidTown Mutts Dog Park, or at least a big chunk of it. Did I read that it may relocate to the old Blue Garten site?

They are very close to being complete with the conversion of City Garden to Midtown Mutts:

rayvaflav 12-14-2024, 01:37 PM Ha! I was there yesterday, and I had a few thoughts to myself, the first one being "Interesting that they're using astroturf." Surprising that a dog park will shoulder a busy intersection. Hoping that they're including an 8-foot fence.

Probably didn't want it to be a mud puddle when it rains like the other one often was. Tough to keep grass growing in small dog parks with a lot of traffic.
Yes, which is why Bar K has all of its 2 acres covered in fake grass.
When I had 3 Labradors in my California backyard, I could never get grass to grow and put in the fake stuff and it was the smartest thing I ever did.

yeah as long as it gets washed off by rain or hosed down every once awhile it’s way easier to deal with than grass. Bar K appears to have used repurposed football field turfgrass which was an awesome idea.
Here is more about the Palomar garage. As I mentioned, I believe the plan is for Midtown R to build housing to the south and west.
