No more Hudiburg auto dealership in OKC.
Cavender group, out of Texas, who recently bought the 2 Reynolds Ford dealerships in OKC & Norman, has bought out Hudiburg.
Hudiburg goes back a long way. My old boss years ago, worked for the old man Hudiburg and told a lot of amazing stories about that.

Besides money, I wonder what the motivation was to sell? They were/are still clearly interested in the auto business, they had just built that new Subaru dealership even.

I don't remember ever not having a Hudiburg.
But I won't miss the Elves chanting Hu-di-burg.

I'm guessing a chance to cash out for maturing ownership that doesn't have a strong desire from the next generation to continue. IIRC Paul Hudiburg became a Chevrolet dealer in the mid 1950s and it has been family owned and operated since then. The next 10-20 years look like a time of great uncertainty and expense for dealers. And I think the Hudiburg's are of a size where they need to either get up or get down, so to speak.

I'm no expert in this field but if there is low overriding family interest in the auto sales biz and potential great changes in the auto industry (multiple new brands of electrics and hydrogen), they may just foresee a less lucrative opportunity for the future.

The car business, and particularly the new car business, has seen a fair level of margin compression since 2008 and there’s no indication the fundamentals will improve going forward. It’s one of the reasons you’ve seen the local car dealers expand into commercial real estate (see, e.g., Hall Capital).

How is Hall Capital related to car dealerships?

I’m in my early 60s and the Fred Jones name meant Ford and the automotive industry around the central US through the 1980s. Maybe farther than the US. I recall they had parts manufacturing businesses in Europe during that era. Fred Jones grandsons, the Hall brothers, have continued to make smart and visionary business moves through Hall Capital and other companies.
