View Full Version : Edmond to build a new combination library and YMCA on East side
progressiveboy 09-14-2022, 09:39 PM I saw in the Journal Record that Edmond will be building a much needed second library attached to a new YMCA in fast growing East side of the city. Great news for Edmond. This sounds like a win for Edmond residents!

The East side needs a city park.

Lake Arcadia has park space?

I think it has a very lame area and it’s not accessible without paying.
Not sure what the floodplain restrictions are like but there is a great area behind the dam.

That’s where all the new MTB trails are being built.

…and, I wish they’d do something like The Railyard in Rogers, AR with MTB pump tracks of varying difficulty just to add a new “park” style attraction that is unique for the metro.
mrdude 02-03-2024, 09:32 AM Really looking forward to seeing if this one will have a pool, due to Mitch’s being EPS owned and “borrowed” by the Y - the entire OKC metro has a serious comp pool/lap pool for training or personal shortage since OCCC closed. The OAC and OC pools are in dire need of upgrades. We practically live at pools and the Y, I will ask around on this project.

The Mercy North building has a nice pool complex inside.

It does! I’ve done training there. It’s even a salt water pool but unfortunately it’s only 4 lanes and most of the time they’re being used, and I’ll say it’s not a “circle swim” or sharing lane type of environment.

Should have ground breaking in the next few months and opening early 2026
ChaseDweller 06-27-2024, 10:25 AM I wish they would improve bike/pedestrian access to this site and the Arcadia Trails as part of this project or the redo of the service roads. I live less than a mile from this site and the Arcadia trailhead, and I have to drive to both because there is no safe way to run/walk/bike to either. Same with Wal-Mart, etc.

I’ll have to find the article. But I think that’s the plan but they are waiting on ODOT plans for access roads and such before doing anything.

As a swimmer with swimmers I’m glad they’re putting a pool in but unsurprised and sad they’re filling in Rankin’s immediately after. I was told by an insider Rankin will likely become a community center for the recently renovated basketball court IF not closed completely. I practically live at both of these Y’s pools and commute via cycle or walking, 35 is a stretch. Also Mercy’s pool was nice and is now closed and planned to be filled in as well, as it was salt water and eroding fire protection in the ceiling above. Any lane losses in the metro stings as we’ve been losing pool by pool (Otrip, Rose etc) with OC’s and OAC’s being in very bad shape.

Yeah, the Mitch Park pool situation drives me crazy. It's fine that they use it for school swim teams, great even, but so much of the day it is just sitting there empty unused. The leisure pool too, and then they schedule classes meant for retired people at rush hour.

Mercy is closing their pool? That seems like a major downgrade to that facility especially since they charge a premium price there.
Zorba 07-02-2024, 11:28 PM I went into the Edmond library yesterday with my daughter and the kid's area was so bare we thought that something must have happened. The librarian told us it was just the demand from the summer reading program, he told us 1/3 of all minutes logged for the summer reading program thus far were from people that use that library. But probably around 75% of the books were gone.
