View Full Version : Scheels Sporting Goods coming to Tulsa
formerly405Tulsan 08-20-2022, 07:31 PM I don't know much about it but looks like a great spot. Best part is it's going into a pretty big vacant area.

catch22 08-20-2022, 09:43 PM We have one in Colorado Springs. It should be a hit in Oklahoma. It’s basically a Bass Pro/Cabela’s with a little bit less of a hunting theme. They carry all sorts of outdoor products and brands, not just camo/hunting/camping etc.

I am very excited about this project...out of my selfishness I wish Scheels was investing in OKC but Tulsa is great for the state. While attending college in Nebraska I realized quickly that I had been deprived of a great all around sporting store after my first visit to the Scheels in Lincoln.
Zorba 08-20-2022, 10:10 PM I've been to one in KC and DFW. They are really nice stores and think it'll be a hit. I see it much more like a huge Dick's than a Bass Pro. I'm guessing it's going to really hurt the Dick's a mile down the road.
I also hadn't realized that Sears finally closed, been a few years since I've been to Woodland. Last time I was in the Sears it was more than half empty but it stayed open for at least a few more years. I also figured Von Maur or Nordstrom would move into that spot once Sears kicked the bucket.
catch22 08-20-2022, 11:11 PM That would be a better comparison. The square footage of a very large Bass Pro, but the lineup of Dick’s.
What’s cool is that it is laid out somewhat like a department store in that each brand is kind of in its own little area that feels almost like it’s own store. So you can “shop” from brand to brand instead of a large sea of thousands of items.
Bunty 11-19-2022, 12:05 AM What is so great and special about this store?

chssooner 11-19-2022, 12:25 AM It's like Ikea for sporting goods.

Meets a Casa Bonita...with the ferris wheel, ice skating rink, candy shop in the store, etc.
josefromtulsa 11-22-2022, 10:30 AM I am excited about this! This consoles me since we didnt get the REI. I can see tons of NWA'ers (bikers, hikers, campers) coming to shop at this store.
Bowser214 11-22-2022, 06:24 PM Will definitely have to check this place out next time I'm in Tulsa
shavethewhales 11-23-2022, 10:41 AM If this one includes an ice rink that will be a weird coincidence that both of Tulsa's malls get ice rinks in the same year.
catch22 11-24-2022, 02:59 PM It's like Ikea for sporting goods.
Except for you don’t have to build your own hunting jacket and ammunition :)

formerly405Tulsan 07-11-2023, 11:08 AM I walked by yesterday and they are making good work. This photo was from just outside the 2nd level mall entrance.

Brett 09-28-2024, 11:56 AM Scheels Tulsa at Woodland Hills Mall grand opening is slated for Saturday, October 19th. Dick's House of Sport in north OKC grand opening October 18-20.
bison34 09-28-2024, 12:11 PM I do hope OKC can get a Scheels sometime. Quail would be a great place for one.
Glad House of Sport is opening soon!

Like Tulsa, is it probable that Quail Springs Mall would lose an anchor? (Woodland Hills Mall and Sears for Scheels) I'm not sure how well Dillard's QSM and JCPenny QSM are performing. I assume the Penn Square location runs circles around them in sales per square foot?

The Dillards a PSM may be one of their 3 highest grossing stores. There is a reason why Creed sells at like, 3 Dillards stores, and OKC was the first one.
Not sure about JcPenney. But that whole chain is outdated and mid.
formerly405Tulsan 10-17-2024, 08:59 PM They open Saturday and man, does it look nice. They seem to have everything, from sporting goods to hunting of course, but also home decor and even a frozen steak section. I am looking forward to checking it out.
formerly405Tulsan 10-17-2024, 09:04 PM Their Instagram is doing a good job at showing what it will be like.

Would be perfect for the Penneys space at Penn Square.

Are they closing or have they closed?
bison34 10-18-2024, 12:22 PM Are they closing or have they closed?
No. They are still pressing on, somehow. I thought they would have been gone years ago, same with that Macy's, which is basically a clearance store now.
Are they closing or have they closed?
No but if you walk through there you can see it's half empty.
They can't be long for that location.
