View Full Version : Ramsay's Kitchen (formerly Pub & Grill)
TheTravellers 11-12-2022, 12:16 PM Alternate opinion, the fish and chips at Republic are not worth much. Fish is over battered and tasteless. Good fish and chips requires being near a water source. There is no good fish and chips in Oklahoma, though plenty that will do in a pinch if you are homesick for England or Canada coastals.
Isn't the philosophy of having to be on the water to have good fresh fish out of date by now? Aren't fish flown in daily to all over middle America and are (almost, pretty close to) as good as being on the coasts? Pretty sure there were restaurants in the Chicago area that had fish as good as the coasts (and not caught in Lake Michigan)?

Are you saying the f&c cod fish here are flown in and made from fresh fish? The English and Scott’s use othe fish too that we don’t even have here. And what they are cooked in is different.

I'm saying fish and chips in Oklahoma is trash. I don't care how well Ben E. Keith's flash-freezes it.

Do you get it from chain restaurants? Go to Sean Cummings or Black Raven. It isn't trash, you are just comparing it to something unattainable - seaside locales.

My butler flies it in from Chicestershire after every Goodwood season.

I'm not saying anything about who flies what in to OKC or anything about anybody's fish/chips, I'm just saying that there are lots of places not on the coasts of America that fly fish in daily and it's pretty fresh and good, but no, it will probably never be as fresh as getting it off a boat or dock or coast-side establishment on one of the coasts.

Interesting. I wonder if they plan to modify the exterior at all given the change in concept.
No, it will be the same.
The changed the concept some time ago so if they were going to change the exterior, they would have already done so.

Jeffumm 01-11-2023, 01:39 PM I appreciate you continuing to post these pictures and keep us updated on the construction.
Do you have ANY idea how soon it will be open? It looks like they still have to get the interior together, so probably not spring. Summer? Fall? Have they said?
^
I would guess late spring/early summer.

I would guess late spring/early summer.
Then it seems like this will end up being the 4th Ramsay's Kitchen. I saw a newspaper article that says there will be one in early spring in the Chicago area, taking over a spot that used to be a Ted's Montana Grill ("Ted" is Ted Turner; he had created that chain). They are already hiring managers and chefs for that location.
A year ago this month was the first one in Boston, and two months ago was the second one in Las Vegas.
Jeffumm 01-20-2023, 12:33 PM I don't know if this is okay to post; if not go ahead and delete it. But here's a new development for this Ramsay's Kitchen: they are now hiring a General Manager and an Executive Chef at this location! Here are the career ads from Gordon Ramsay North America, showing the address at Chisholm Creek:

It's not like he would be there all the time, though. I saw somebody on Reddit say that he's got 70 restaurants around the world, and he only visits any one of them maybe once every year, year-and-a-half. The rest of the time he's making TV shows, I guess!

Yeah, I realize it wouldn't be like his reality show, BUT, companies take on the personality of their leaders, and his culture would be intense.

I would say late summer or early fall.
They have been working away inside.

They have been working away inside. We are at a regular haunt and the kitchen manager who is way under employed by his education and experience is leaving to go to a month of training as the sous chef for Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen. He's been told opening should happen shortly after he returns.

Yes, late fall is what I've been hearing.
I'm sure they'd like to be open before the holidays and seem to be moving pretty quickly now.

Depending on when Pete took those photos, it could just be brown because it had rained a lot recently and water ran off into the reservoir. The Oklahoma River is always brown for a little while after heavy rain events for this reason, but goes back to blue once we've gone a few days without rain.

A salmon Caesar salad is my typical go-to for lunch, and at $32 it's got to be one of the most expensive options in the city.

I was surprised only the beef wellington seems priced high for what it is, and thats because its his signature dish. I'll be ordering it for sure, but am glad it doesn't seem like they only have super expensive items.

It seems to be about the same as the one in Naperville, with just a few small changes I noticed. Prices are about the same, but there are a couple of changes. Beef Welly is $2 cheaper.
Jeepnokc 09-26-2023, 05:50 PM On the onion soup...had to look this up to see if they were just mispelling rabbit. (They aren't)
Welsh rarebit or Welsh rabbit is a dish consisting of a hot cheese-based sauce served over slices of toasted bread. The original 18th-century name of the dish was the jocular "Welsh rabbit", which was later reinterpreted as "rarebit", as the dish contains no rabbit. Wikipedia

I'm not so sure about the vegetarian options.... Guess it depends on how strict you are but I thought that excluded all animal based ingredients such as eggs and dairy.

Actually a better way to say it is "the 4th location so far," with a 5th location planned for Reno later this year (https://www.rgj.com/story/life/food/2023/05/18/gordon-ramsay-opening-2-new-reno-restaurants-at-the-row-caesars/70232388007/) and more planned beyond that.
That's vegan -- vegetarian just means no animal meat.
On my first visit to England, in 1978, (mainly to ride trains, with many footplate rides), I really enjoyed all the vegetarian restaurants. English cooking, then, was blah by continental standards (French, Italian), but the vegetarian places were very good, indeed. Lots and lots of dairy, but no meat. Quiche’s, and wonderful local whipped cream slathered over fruit crumbles. The English seem to have had a long vegetarian movement.
