Plutonic Panda 04-17-2022, 03:52 PM Thanks for posting the graphics. I’m on my phone so I wasn’t able.
chssooner 04-17-2022, 04:25 PM While I like this development, Edmond is kind of selling its soul for this. Won't every inch of this be exempt from property taxes?
I hope this turns out to be a high-quality development for LC and Edmond, though.
Plutonic Panda 04-17-2022, 04:34 PM I’m really divided on the issue should churches pay taxes or not. I think they should be required to pay for traffic and utility improvements at the least.

All this property has been owned by life church and preceding church so there isn’t any change from what has been in past.

True, but it was mostly empty. Now they want to have 5 or 6 new buildings, which will take a toll on city infrastructure. And a hotel, which will not have to charge hotel and motel taxes, most likely. It is not anywhere near its purpose as a Church, and is bordering into taxable business income, which the church will have to pay tax on. Just my two cents.

They are a large nationwide non profit organization. The business offices will be for their own support operations. The hotel I expect will be for their own use for staff from around country coming into Main offices and for groups/speakers they host.
Not a life churcher or agree with their ways completely. Just stating my thoughts.
Hollywood 04-19-2022, 09:43 PM The economy is destructing and inflation is crushing society. So much good could be done with what this will cost but gotta be the megaest of the mega churches.
shartel_ave 04-20-2022, 08:28 AM What a scam
EdOkCounty 04-20-2022, 11:29 AM Non-profit, cough, cough.
Swake 04-20-2022, 11:37 AM That's a lot of office space. You know, for a site that is a church and totally not a business.
Totally.
Plutonic Panda 11-16-2022, 01:09 AM Is this project under construction? It looks like there’s a crane on the site.

Anyone know what the staff count is for the youversion development team. That's a good size building.
The building is an AHMM design:

floyd the barber 11-09-2024, 03:55 PM This whole church revolves around one man.
That's risky. What happens when he can no longer give a message?
This is not sustainable in my opinion.

Would you say the same thing about The Gates foundation or the Mayo Clinic having an on-campus hotel?

You mean Jesus? lol
I haven't been to Life Church in years, but I remember there being plenty of times where other pastors have spoken(He does take vacations you know). Life Church would find a new leader if/when Craig Groeschel passes away or retires.

That's a bit of a reach.

lol. The Mayo Clinic having a hotel?
mugofbeer 11-14-2024, 12:00 AM Yes.
rte66man 11-14-2024, 08:17 AM lol. The Mayo Clinic having a hotel?
I can't speak to the Mayo Clinic but Integris Baptist has a hotel.
rte66man 11-14-2024, 08:20 AM I'm not a lawyer but I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express once.......
Whether they should collect and remit sales and hotel/motel taxes would depend on whether the Hotel is open to the general public or just for attendees of various conferences, etc the church is putting on. I'm sure they will argue that the hotel is a church function if the former. I'm also certain this will end up in court.
