New Upscale Retail Development Coming to OKC
Homeland Grocery Store Confirmed as First Tenant
Oklahoma City, Okla. – Jan. 26, 2022 – A new upscale mixed-use development is coming to Oklahoma City. Rose Creek Plaza, located on the northwest corner of NW 164th and May Avenue, will break ground in the first quarter of 2022.
Homeland (HAC Inc) is the first confirmed tenant for the new development. The new store will emphasize fresh meat, produce and deli similar to the location opened recently at 36th and Lincoln.
“We’re excited to bring our full-service grocery store to this first-class development and serve our customers in the Oklahoma City and Edmond area,” said Debbie Brown, CFO and acting CEO of HAC, Inc., “The store will offer a wide variety of fresh meal options for shoppers and will also serve as a gathering place for the community.
In addition to Homeland, the upscale retail area will include a town center, restaurants, boutiques, coffee shops and more. Bordered by Rose Creek in north Oklahoma City, the Rose Creek Plaza will span 27 acres, with over 220,000 square feet of mixed-use space for lease.
The new retail area is sponsored by Skybridge Development, a fully integrated development company headquartered in Oklahoma City.
“The vision for Rose Creek Plaza is to create a lifestyle destination, including a unique blend of national and local high-end retail, restaurants, services and entertainment,” said Steven Callendar, chief operating officer of Skybridge Development. “This development has been in the works for many years, and we’re excited to see it come to fruition.”
Robust amenities are planned for the area, including a waterway, fountains and valet parking. Located near the Rose Creek Country Club, the development will be accessible from the golf course with golf cart paths.
Homeland will break ground on the new store in the summer of 2022 and plans to open its doors to the public in the fall of 2023.
About Rose Creek Plaza: Located on the northwest corner of NW 164th Street and N May Avenue, Rose Creek Plaza will be a unique mixed-use lifestyle development in Oklahoma City. Rose Creek Plaza is positioned for a variety of high-end retail, dining and services.

Plutonic Panda 01-26-2022, 06:25 PM Good development but that cul de sac should connect through.
Under their new leadership, Homeland continues to impress.
This should be a very nice store and I'm sure the surrounding center will be done well.
Would love to see more Homelands around. I would gladly give them my business if they were anywhere near my home (Penn Square area).
scottk 01-26-2022, 06:55 PM This is great news, along with the tentatively planned Walmart NM at 178th and May and a grocery store potentially at 178th and Portland (Portland Power Center). Given the demographics of the area, this Homeland will do great. I only wish it could be built quicker, Fall 2023 can't get here soon enough.
If it's anything like their new store on Lincoln, people out that way are going to be very happy.
I know there is this constant drumbeat about the lowest prices, but there are people (like me) who gladly pay a bit more for a nice store with quality prepared foods and a good deli.
Great to see our two locals -- Homeland and Crest -- stepping up their game.
ChrisHayes 01-26-2022, 07:00 PM That's a long time coming for that area. On a side note, after moving to Oklahoma City in 2013, I did a lot of driving around to see the city. I ended up at this intersection and was amazed at the ocean of newer houses west of May.

Homeland is not a store I ever considered for NW 164th or NW 178th & May, but I'm quite happy with this news. I worked for Homeland for 7.5 years but haven't been in one for many years, although my wife says the newer ones are very nice.

The schools can't keep up, I was told at one time the Deer Creek school board/administration asked Taber, Beacon, Ideal, and the other big builders in this area of NW OKC to slooooow down on new construction. You can guess how that request went.
This Homeland will be great, considering so many older Homeland's closed over the past few years in the vicinity of where this one was being built.

sooner88 04-06-2022, 02:38 PM There are plans for a Chick-Fil-A to go here as well, and they have several LOIs in place too. Should be a nice development for the area.

For those who don't live in that area, that photo really distorts the North-South axis of that lot. It's a lot bigger than it looks in this picture.
I do hope they keep a greenbelt between the development and NW 164th. I drive by it every day and so far, it looks like that will be the case.

The plot map shows most of those trees probably will be remaining. There will be lots fronting 164th but the trees will remain in tact behind most of the lots
scottk 05-13-2022, 10:44 AM Will the developer or City be adding dedicated center turn lanes and right turn inlets on May?
Just up the street the new Starbucks and 7-Eleven are built right at the intersection and so far no improvements to aid in traffic flow in and out of the center.
Bowser214 05-13-2022, 05:03 PM Me again. My 2 cents. I wish they would call it Rose Creek. Leave out the Plaza. Sounds dated.
OKC Guide 05-14-2022, 01:25 PM I believe Rose Creek is the name of the neighborhood around Rose Creek Golf Club just to the north.

corwin1968 07-19-2022, 01:22 PM They have now taken down all of the trees (shown in the picture directly above) along the South edge of the project, along NW 164th. That's too bad, I was hoping they would incorporate them into the overall design.

It’s the Oklahoma way to just wipe them.

Most of those appear to be cedar trees. They are an invasive species and generally considered to be a high fire hazard.

And that is a good thing with those kind of trees.

cinnamonjock 07-21-2022, 12:20 PM The eastern red cedar is actual not a bad urban tree. It is a native evergreen that can easily withstand the Oklahoma climate and provides wildlife habitat. They also live for a very long time. Granted, they are not the best looking tree when young, but the older ones are gorgeous. Many of the homes in Heritage Hills use the eastern red cedar as a landscaping tree.
In rural areas, they are a problem because of poor land management. Used to, wildfires kept them out of grasslands because they catch fire easy. But since wildfires were aggressively suppressed for over a century, it has allowed this pioneer species to overtake other species.
A weed is just a plant in the wrong place. We should be grateful we have a native tree species that requires nearly no maintenance when used appropriately.

Using a cedar tree as landscaping around a house is very different than having them in an open field area like this. A few years ago, when I was living in Mustang. a field near my housing addition caught fire with a lot of those trees. It was very dangerous. Keeping those trees in that area is not a good idea.
cinnamonjock 07-22-2022, 09:18 AM I disagree on characterizing this as an open field, but I'll leave the discussion alone.
Plutonic Panda 07-27-2022, 04:54 AM Apparently this development meets KFOR’s definition of what an upscale lifestyle center is:
A new upscale mixed-use lifestyle development in Oklahoma City broke ground on Friday.

Bowser214 07-27-2022, 06:18 AM That’s the language used in the very first post in this thread. Time will tell if it truly is “upscale.”

That description is from a press release.
stlokc 07-27-2022, 08:03 AM A development that has a Homeland grocery store as its centerpiece is not "upscale."
With the demographics of that area, that spot could have been a Trader Joes. Or, dare I say, a Whole Foods.

Still more highfalutin' than a Piggly Wiggly!
Plutonic Panda 07-28-2022, 11:53 AM That description is from a press release.
I just found it weird it was described as a lifestyle center. I suppose it technically will be given the neighborhood it is part of but I doubt they will provide a direct connection as most developers don’t seem to do that.
Plutonic Panda 07-28-2022, 11:54 AM Still more highfalutin' than a Piggly Wiggly!
I can’t remember exactly where but I went into a Piggly Wiggly one time and it was pretty nice.

I don't know. Homeland doesn't have the reputation yet, but the new one on Lincoln is pretty good and can be easily upscaled even more in this location. Homeland seems to be "getting it:.
I live in the area and I don't think it'll be "upscale". It'll be just like every other shopping center with a grocery store as an anchor. It'll have a nail salon, donut shop, boutique, expensive gym, hair salon, and a few restaurants. Hopefully they'll be patient and put in good tenants. There was originally talk of Sprouts, Trade Joe's or Whole Foods, but that was a couple developers back. There's already a sex shop, vape shop, weed shop, and a lash salon directly across the street on May, but I'm sure they'll add those too.
Homeland has filed their building permit application for this development.
Will be very similar to their last store at NE 36th & Lincoln, which is a good thing as that store is very nice. However, this one will be larger at 35,326 square feet vs. 30,326. They are also spending $9 million just for the building, not including furniture, fixtures and equipment so I suspect the finishes will be even higher.
If you look closely at the 2nd image below, there will be a covered outdoor seating area to the left of the entrance, similar to the Lincoln store. Also, you can see a big area to the left as you walk in, which will be a deli and likely 2-3 spots for outside food vendors.
This looks like it will be the nicest grocery store in the OKC area, apart from maybe Whole Foods.

PaddyShack 08-04-2022, 08:24 AM I still don't know why they put in so many check out lanes when they usually only have 2 open... I'm kidding, but here at the Yukon store I have never seen more than 3 lanes open at busier times and usually only 1 open, with the person also taking care of the self-check lanes.
^
All grocery stores do this as does almost every big box store.
I'm sure it's for the rare holiday-shopping weekends where they get overrun.

I'll give credit to the Edmond Crest, consistently at busy times (Saturday afternoon, pre-ice or snow, etc) they will have almost all 22 or 24 lanes open with a cashier and bagger.

The Homeland I go to at May and Britton normally has 2 to 4 lanes open at one time. It's just a waste of employee time to keep a large number open when they can easily call employees to man more lanes when needed and that is what normally happens if the lanes get backed up.

Press release:

Provision Concepts’ popular chophouse, brunch destination & craft cocktail bar soon to make their way to new West Edmond development.
Oklahoma based restaurant group, Provision Concepts, announces new locations for three of their highly desired concepts: Broadway 10 Bar & Chophouse, Hatch Early Mood Food & Sidecar Barley & Wine Bar. These three stores will serve guests in the new Rose Creek Plaza development located at the northwest corner of NW 164th and May Avenue.
Provision Concepts was founded by Jeff Dixon, who opened his first restaurant in December of 2014. Eight years later the restaurant group has eight brands, twelve current locations and nine stores under construction that expand into the suburbs of Edmond, Tulsa and Norman.
Although many of PC’s brands like Hatch and Sidecar have multiple locations, this will be just the second storefront to open for Broadway 10 Bar & Chophouse. Dixon’s flagship restaurant, Broadway 10, is a unique fine-dining chophouse that has proven to be a massive success since its opening in December 2014.
“We are excited to join Skybridge Development’s new 28-acre Rose Creek Plaza development, serving North OKC and Edmond guests,” said Dixon. “We are thrilled to announce the addition of Provision Concepts’ most sought after brands to Rose Creek Plaza. Broadway 10, Hatch, and Sidecar are staples in the OKC food & beverage scene that compliment the exquisite and vibrant lifestyle center we are creating with Rose Creek Plaza,” said Steven Callendar, Skybridge Development’s COO.
About Provision Concepts:
Since its founding in 2014, Provision Concepts has established itself as one of the premiere hospitality groups in Oklahoma. With years of combined professional hospitality experience, nine original concepts, and millions served, guests can expect impressive cuisine with evolving menus, casual yet sophisticated atmospheres and genuine hospitality at each of its
restaurants.
