View Full Version : Pickleman's
Pickleman's is taking the old City Bites space at 6001 N. May.
Rand Elliott has designed a complete renovation of the building.
Pickleman's has one area location on Campus Corner in Norman and will soon be opening another in the old Cowboy Chicken spot at 2nd & Bryant in Edmond. There is also a Pickleman's in Stillwater.

HangryHippo 12-10-2021, 01:30 PM I like the plan.
David 12-10-2021, 01:39 PM That barely looks like the same building, though I'm definitely not complaining about the improvement.
MagzOK 12-10-2021, 01:40 PM oh that will look really nice.
TheTravellers 12-10-2021, 01:46 PM Sad City Bites went away, eaten there for decades, glad the bldg is going to get back its original look. What's with the fascination with chicken salad, though? First thing I see on their website, there's a whole restaurant chain named after it, and at least one restaurant on every episode of Discover Oklahoma has someone raving over chicken salad....
Sooner.Arch 12-10-2021, 01:50 PM The real question is what ever happened to the apartments behind this building? Regardless, glad to see this being done.
Timshel 12-10-2021, 02:01 PM I still miss that City Bites, but the building looks great and won't complain about Picklemans at all.

I've been watching that property for some time.
They suddenly ran off all their tenants and shuttered the building. I suspect there is a ton of deferred maintenance that will require major construction.
I've tried to contact the out-of-state owners, but to no avail.
Like most commercial projects, the most useful information comes from permits and planning documents, so I'll continue to keep an eye out. It's a great property with fabulous views.
Work has started on this project. And the Pickleman's will have a drive-thru and a small outdoor patio.

Bowser214 04-05-2022, 05:46 PM I think that was a laundry mat back in the mid 80s. I rented a little 300ft bungalow behind a dentist office on Villa. Sorry went down memory lane when I saw that pic.
Midtowner 04-05-2022, 08:17 PM City Bites? Noooooah.

Yeah, it has been gone for over a year now.
Also, the Pickleman's in Edmond is going in the old salad place, Cowboy chicken is next door and is still there.

There was an American Cleaners (I believe) there for a long time, don't recall when it closed.
Urbanized 04-06-2022, 01:36 PM American Cleaners was in the north bay; City Bites in the south.

Back in the early 1960s it was a Thom McAn Family Shoe Center: https://gateway.okhistory.org/ark:/67531/metadc1119652/?q=thom

I used to live up in that part of the city. I guess I haven't been around there in over a year now. I really miss the City Bites at 23rd and Classen. Used to be one of my regular lunch stops. It always seemed pretty full. There's another restaurant in that space now. Some days, I'll drive all the way from my midtown office to their Nichols Hills location for one of their Phillies.
And don't tell me I should go to Hobby's. Hobby's is part of the rotation, but it takes more commitment to eat one of those.

I think American Cleaners continues to occupy the north space and will do so after the renovation.

The good news is that our statements are not mutually exclusive! I hadn't paid attention to that space recently so I really didn't know whether or not it was still there or not.
Elrenogolf 04-07-2022, 10:00 PM I wonder when the one in Edmond will open. Seems like they have been working on it forever.

aDark 06-20-2022, 08:58 AM If you haven't had an opportunity to try Pickleman's you are in for a treat. Fantastic sandwiches and pizzas. The French Dip (#5) with addition of their giardiniera peppers is a personal favorite. Ate it almost once a week when I was bartending in Norman during college. Just awesome.

Last Sunday I drove by the location and noticed that the window coverings have been removed and the lights were on. I imagine that the grand opening is not far away.

It'll be nice to have a sandwich shop that's not JJ or JM (we don't eat at those) around there again, but man, taking over a year??? Guess I should just be happy it's not taking as long as Sauced. :Smiley122
April in the Plaza 12-14-2022, 08:43 PM Have they tabled the landscaping plans? It looked great in the renderings

OkieBerto 12-15-2022, 03:14 PM I had Picklemans today and thought it was pretty darn good and affordable. The line was long but moved fast. The food was fresh and full of flavor. Got the Tomato Basil Bisque and Half Turkey and Bacon sandwich. I also grabbed a cookie. I will be going back.
It reminds me a little of Quiznos without the sandwich being too big.
Pickleman's has a big following.
It seems to be a cut above the rest of the sub chains. Lots of soups and salads and pizzas.
TheTravellers 12-23-2022, 11:47 AM Read the Yelp! reviews of the OKC area locations and am not impressed, we're probably not going to bother. Way too many instances of one/two slices of meat, everything lacking flavor, and modifications to sandwiches (additions/substitutions) not being done, and all the locations have a lot of all of those types of reviews (May Ave location has 4 reviews and 3 are 1 or 2 stars).
