Bellaboo 03-06-2023, 09:47 AM Yeah, I can see a bunch of drunk idiots all over the statuary, roaming around, etc. - they might want to hire twice as much security as they think they need.
They need to wire about 20 volts to them and that will keep the knuckleheads off......... j/k

Honestly, that was my first thought, lol! BZZZZT, you lose.....
warreng88 03-06-2023, 11:35 AM The social media comments on this drive me nuts. "What about parking?" when it is right next to one of the most underused parking lots in all of BT. "Why are they putting it there? It dirties up that nice walking area of the canal?" It's like people don't understand the concept of progress and probably haven't been down to that area of the canal in a decade...

I weep for this country when I read the comments on anything we post.
It's like people are sitting around with all this anger just waiting for any excuse to vent it and complain endlessly.
amocore 03-06-2023, 11:41 AM Don't look at it and overall don't try to participate on Social media comments, you ll become crazy trying to explain simple things to people turning everything negatively.
Myself, I am very excited about this project. More patios and life on the canal which is underexploited.

This particular area is very dead.
Controversy about the Land Run monument aside, it's really cool and Truck Yard will bring a ton more visitors to enjoy it.

Comments like these are my favorite. These commenters must think more people utilizing walking trails and parks is a bad thing. A good deal of money has been spent on these public improvements, why would we not want to leverage those for development and create an environment for more people using these improvements?

Guess they haven't heard they are going to loose the big U-Haul lot in the next year or two.

Oh, I bet a lot of these are the same people who commented when Pete broke the story about the U-haul lot, even including the language of "underground parking" with "WHERE ARE WE GOING TO PARK!!!!!"

Yup. And I'm sure most of the folks complaining rarely go to Bricktown. I know multiple people folks who maybe get down there every couple of years, and they always park in the same places (either the Uhaul lot or the South Bass Pro Lot). They're not regulars in the areas and they're not used to having to work to find parking and such. They like the easy to get spots and expected they'd always be like that.
warreng88 03-06-2023, 08:19 PM Years ago when the plaza district popularity was just starting to pick up (think of when the mule and empire originally opened) Kristen Vails was the Executive Director of plaza district. She mapped out the area from the western most parking lot (next to the lyric academy) to The Mule and I was equal to the distance from halfway in the parking lot north of Macy’s into the mall. Now, people have no problem walking to and into the mall, why is this such as issue? The answer was simply that most Oklahomans are lazy and want to park right in front of where they want to go and walk right in.

I think it is more that they were unaccustomed to going to places were parking was sparse. Some are lazy, yes. I just think the Plaza District type of area was new to them, and they have adjusted.
goldenHurricane22 06-09-2023, 12:05 AM I noticed tonight that they had the survey markers staked out around the perimeter. Even if it's a one single step along the path of construction, still exciting to see things progressing.

They just file for their construction trailer, so they will be starting very soon.
goldenHurricane22 06-25-2023, 11:00 AM Walked by here last night on my way to the Boathouse District festival, looks like construction is in full swing!
I got to say, it seems like Bricktown is setting itself up nicely to become a hopping live music scene--you got Mojo's Blues and the Dueling Piano bar already there. Then Oklahoma Opry will hopefully add some more life and sounds to that northwest corner of the canal (not sure what their final design plans are and if they are planning to have music be heard from the canal), and then Truck Yard will definitely add life to Lower Bricktown. When I was walking, there was also a random DJ set up on that stage by the Sonic building with a small crowd watching, so if that space gets used more frequently too, I could imagine weekend nights where it would be hard to not hear some live music at any point along the canal.

warreng88 06-27-2023, 08:14 AM It’s still crazy that people on Facebook are complaining about parking.
Ginkasa 06-27-2023, 10:28 AM The only concern I can understand is the odd juxtaposition with the Land Run monument. Its a little weird now, but I bet this will activate the area more and it'll feel more natural as time progresses. I'm excited for it.

I don't think the monument is going to be as noticeable from this location as people think. Maybe if you're on the very south end, but otherwise I'm not really seeing it. It's going to maybe be weirder from the perspective of tourists walking around the monument, but this section of the Canal is already quite loud due to I-40 traffic noise, so I'm not sure that adding an outdoor bar is really going to make that much of a difference.
I deleted many negative and completely uninformed posts (and the ample responses that were rightly calling them out).
I'm going to start banning people who do nothing but show up in threads about great new things happening, spout off a bunch of entirely inane comments, then continue to double-down on their nonsense when ample facts are presented.
Go do that crap on Facebook; it's not welcome here.

Bowser214 11-10-2023, 02:48 PM That is sooo cool!! Very excited for this to happen!!
Will Dearborn 11-13-2023, 11:01 PM Didn't realize there was going to be so much indoor space...big benefit I think. Hope they're successful.
amocore 11-14-2023, 02:02 PM It will be bigger than expected. There are three excavators on site doing terrains work and other smaller equipment.
It will be a huge win for this part of downtown.

jn1780 02-12-2024, 02:54 PM Is live music still going to be a big part of this? The video wall took the place of the stage. Wondering if this evolving to be more of a country themed outdoor sports bar.
I wouldn't blame them. Its easier to have staff turn on TV's than trying to book acts.

LOL this photo. Is the ultimate strategy in OKC to just lay a bunch of asphalt for no particular reason?

That parking lot has been there for 20 years hasn't it...?
Urbanized 02-14-2024, 10:19 PM Nearly 25.
bison34 02-14-2024, 10:22 PM Will that ot ever be developed, or is it almost impossible to? The blvd being right there doesn't help.
jn1780 02-15-2024, 07:53 AM I would consider the Truck Yard new development. The picture was taken on a slow day. When there are events it is filled. The Uhaul parking lot is about to be gone(hopefully) so I don't see an out of the way parking lot that big of a deal. Plus, its a good spot for buses.
David 02-15-2024, 08:54 AM So weird to complain about that particular parking lot of all places. It's been there for ages, it's parking for the Land Run Monument, it's parking for the Bricktown and the canal if you are there to walk up and down it, it's overflow parking for Bass Pro, it's even parking for the Boathouses if you don't mind a short walk, and it's completely out of the way and out of sight of Reno or any other major local road.
soonerguru 02-15-2024, 09:49 AM That parking lot has been there for 20 years hasn't it...?
Good to know, but it's actually more odd that there's this parking lot to nowhere that's been around there for 25 years.

It gets used more than you think.
During the Regatta Festival or other large events on Boathouse Row, I've parked there and then walked through the tunnel to the river. On a busy Bricktown weekend, it's full.
I purposely take most of my drone photos on Sunday mornings precisely because there aren't a lot of cars around, plus there is little traffic which is why I can consistently provide updates across a large geography.
Ginkasa 02-15-2024, 10:34 AM Way back in the day this was employee parking for Lower Bricktown and a shuttle was run to take employees (although I think anyone could hop on it) over to the theatre, Toby Keith's, Earl's, etc.
irishtate 02-15-2024, 04:25 PM Just think about how much that parking lot, The TruckYard and that entire are will POP! when they build the soccer stadium. I mean, I'm not wrong that's where it's going am I? To the west of The Climbing Silos?

That is the location being discussed, yes. At the moment there's not a particularly great pedestrian connection between the Land Run Monument/Truck Yard area and the space to the west, but I could see that changing once development starts over there.

It shouldn’t bother me as much as it does lol. People dreading having to walk further than they’d like long before it’s even open or know what the parking situation is.

BridgeBurner 03-11-2024, 02:11 PM Thanks for the new renderings! Looks good, I think they will regret and have to rectify the lack of shade as that seems to be the biggest hindrance to outdoor places in OKC.

The plans show three separate shade spots and it looks like they included some trees. The patio space is a huge area that is mainly shaded. At least that is what they did in Dallas. I have a feeling it will be similar to the way Bleu Garten was set up with tons of seating under a shaded structure. If they did it in Dallas and it succeeded, it will be just fine in OKC.

Yeah, thought earlier renderings had more shade.
I have been to both Dallas area locations and it seemed like a large portion was programmed with 2 story porches and shade awnings so was surprised to see everything ground level with blue sky above in the renderings- just imagined sitting there baking in August haha.
I am sure they know what they're doing though and will make adjustments if needed.

This will be fantastic for OKC's food scene, especially if they knock it out of the park with the food truck rotation.

Totally different from the recent WSJ article. I’ve lived here 20 years and never happened to see DT from that angle. WSJ did us dirty with those images.
HOT ROD 04-26-2024, 11:57 AM I wsa referring to Pete's pics. I totally agree with you re the WSJ; they just want to continue the narrative - photographer/author likely didn't bother coming to OKC.
