They afraid it would be too easy for cars to see wallkers if they left it 10 feet back? It cost them more to make it worse. I do like that they moved the sidewalk back from the road instead of being on the curb. But that weird sidewalk stuff by the entrance is strange. It looks like there isnt a slope issue from my very unscientific Google Streetview search. I, too, would be interested to know why they did it that way. TheTravellers 01-16-2024, 10:19 AM I do like that they moved the sidewalk back from the road instead of being on the curb. But that weird sidewalk stuff by the entrance is strange. It looks like there isnt a slope issue from my very unscientific Google Streetview search. I, too, would be interested to know why they did it that way. Not enough clearance between the curb, power pole, and traffic light pole? But it seems like they could've made it work by jogging it the other way (towards the store) 5 feet or so, then a straight shot on the other side of the poles to the curb. Maybe there's some kind of regulation/statute/store policy that mandates sidewalks be as close to the street as possible at an entrance? fortpatches 01-16-2024, 02:18 PM I was wondering about that. But it is also strange that the right sidewalk angles towards the entrance whereas the left is squared off instead of angling away from the entrance. The two approaches are jarringly dissimilar. Dob Hooligan 01-16-2024, 03:56 PM Maybe when everything is finished it will make sense? dhpersonal 01-16-2024, 04:40 PM I hope the other side of the sidewalk will make sense instead of just ending in the lawn. It's weird to realize that the promise of an OKC metro QT is really not interesting me as much as it used to now that OnCue has become so dominant in the area. Scott5114 01-16-2024, 08:04 PM I think they moved the crosswalk closer to the street so that people turning in from the service road could see pedestrians crossing the driveway more easily. Dob Hooligan 01-17-2024, 09:07 AM One benefit of putting those hard corners on the sidewalk is that the skaters and scooters have to slow down and pay attention to their surroundings as they approach all those cars and trucks. A kid on a scooter blasting along with their ear buds in will blast right across that driveway, given half a chance. jn1780 01-17-2024, 10:58 AM I wonder if they are putting a sign on the corner or some other barrier. Otherwise, what stops people from just walking on the grass? Maybe I've only been in older ones though QuikTrip has been one of the nicest gas station chains I've visited with a consistently high employee quality. The ones I've been to have mostly been recently remodeled with the bigger drink selection or the grill attached, and they've been impressive. There was one in Texas that I visited that wasn't a positive experience and it was so jarring that I have remembered it for years. That's why I pick a gas station or travel stop :p jkjk! Just giving you a hard time. My existence isn't always miserable, but when it comes to pickiness about design, I'm living one of the worst lives. :) Will Dearborn 01-17-2024, 10:24 PM I don't think I'm the typical gas station customer considering what I see here and in person but...I can count how many times I've gone inside a gas station for anything but the bathroom in the last ten years on two hands. All I care about is the quality of non-ethanol gasoline, which OnCue has the best of besides specialty stations in the Metro. Jeepnokc 01-19-2024, 09:29 AM I was surprised to see a QT in Atlanta as I has thought of them as a small OK-TX chain so I went and looked. They have over 1000 locations in 17 states. Urbanized 01-19-2024, 11:03 AM Yeah they were all over Wichita (and the rest of Kansas) when I was growing up there in the seventies and early-mid eighties. Up there it was basically QT vs KwikShop, which was a pretty sizeable chain started and owned by Wichita-based Dillons grocery stores. Midtowner 01-19-2024, 01:51 PM Y'all seem to care deeply about the frills at the place we put gas in cars. I just want a place with cheap gas where I won't get robbed. The bar is not high with me. I just want a place with cheap gas where I won't get robbed. The bar is not high with me. QT really pushed the modern convenience store design and layout concept, including massively improving their safety. Not as novel today with all the clones like OnCue and KwikStop, but the pushed the industry away from scuzzy Texico with one employee working at a time. Pete 01-29-2024, 07:09 AM QT is telling me 'February' for opening the Moore location. Also, I believe the reason for the funny layout of the sidewalk along the frontage road is to comply with ADA requirements. You can't have a crossing on much of a slope, and they probably moved it to the east due to flatter ground. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/qt012824a.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/qt012824b.jpg scottk 01-29-2024, 08:05 PM What sticks out to me in the last drone shot, is that the main entrance on either side is still a single door. This creates a bottleneck when you don't know who is coming and going. Anyone who has been at a Gen 3 QT store at peak morning drive or evening rush time knows what I am talking about. Other than the truck pumps in the back, is there anything that sets this a part as a "Travel Stop" compared to the regular corner store QT's? There are four entrance doors, the two you see in the photo, which are on each side of the main counter, and then one more at the end on each side. I've been in a Gen 3 travel stop and I didn't notice it was much larger on the inside. They are big stores to start with. Now they have moved the on ramp like a mile south to get on. It is all service road so not bad but still a distance before merging on. Maybe the swaths of asphalt allow easier future access to the underground tanks? I figure it has to do with cost. Asphalt is cheaper than concrete. They used concrete where it is likely to come into contact with petroleum products since they can degrade asphalt (around the pumps and the parking immediately next to the building). [I think that's why auto-parts stores pretty much always have concrete parking lots - they assume people coming there would have issues with their cars and drip fluids] jn1780 01-30-2024, 12:48 PM I figure it has to do with cost. [I think that's why auto-parts stores pretty much always have concrete parking lots - they assume people coming there would have issues with their cars and drip fluids] Sure, but when they mix the two together it looks terrible. At least make the whole front half concrete. It really makes Oncue look superior, who has a store down the road with the whole parking lot concrete. I think most new gas stations being built use all concrete its a necessary expense when dealing with petroleum products like you said. josefromtulsa 01-30-2024, 01:11 PM it looks like the quick trip has exits onto north moore avenue. one could turn right on that and then make a left onto shields to quickly access southbound i-35. i hope no semi's try that route, though, as it would be fairly tricky to cross traffic there with a trailer. It's interesting that QT has been paved with a mixture of asphalt and concrete. Maybe the swaths of asphalt allow easier future access to the underground tanks? They did the same at the Henryetta location but none of the ones in Tulsa are mixed. They are usually all concrete. Snowman 02-01-2024, 03:15 AM Looks like the used concrete where the majority of the parking will occur and the cheaper asphalt elsewhere. The part around the pumps may be more due to flammability/liability mitigation, concrete is not going to do much if a small fire starts over it, but if a small fire gets started on top of asphalt it could get ignited. Though it also makes sense that the heavier used parking spots near the store get a more durable material than the ones that are either overflow or staff. First time QT experience. I was very impressed. I did notice that all gasoline grades are up to 10% ethanol. I did not see any 100% pure gasoline. The drink containers start at $1.19 with styrofoam cups costing more than the clear, recyclable plastic cups. Being a travel center, I was surprised to see tools and automotive accessories for sale. Restrooms are separated at complete opposite ends of the store. bombermwc 03-05-2024, 07:39 AM I went for my first trip to the Moore store hoping that it would replace the other stations I go by taking my kids to school. Well what a disappointment that was. It was a full 20 cents more per gallon for E-10 than the small local Alon shop on Broadway or the 7-11 and Casey's on Eastern. We'll see what happens once the Express opens, but there's no way i'm going to just hand over that much more per gallon when I dont even go inside the thing. We use to exclusively use QT's when we traveled through QT Markets (DFW, Wichita, Tulsa, KC, Joplin, Des Moines, etc) and the cleanliness has gone down considerably in recent years. Not sure what changed with their model, but they use to be extremely clean and organized. Now when we travel we almost exclusively go to Love's, while their stores vary in offerings and age, their restrooms, which tend to be the #1 reason for stopping, have been very clean. Locally, OnCue has done an amazing job in maintaining their restrooms and overall store cleanliness. As mentioned in previous post the current QT Gen 3 stores, like the one in Moore, have a very inefficient layout and odd placement of doors, point of sale, and overall guest flow, which seems to go against the core of what they use to pride themselves on with efficiency and cleanliness. warreng88 03-06-2024, 08:28 AM I haven't been, so pardon my ignorance, but is the QT not great or are we so spoiled with Oncue at this point? OkieinGeorgia 03-06-2024, 10:38 AM So, the QT that opened just about a year ago near our home here in SE Georgia was similar when it first opened. I was disappointed in the way it was being run and maintained. But, they have seemed to "get their legs" now and it's being run much better now. I think when it's a location that isn't near several others to pull experienced employees from it takes them some time to get all trained up. That's at least my perception of it. Hopefully the Moore location will firm up and once they start adding more to the metro you would think it would help with the overall operation. |
