But the rate of increase week to week is not promising if it maintains. Do we know or have we ever know how many of those in the hospital are in the hospital for Covid or did they go for something else and tested positive for covid . LA is seeing a huge spike in cases but LAC+USC Medical Center officials came out and said they are seeing no spike and like only 10% currently in the hospital are for covid and not something else. Pete 07-18-2022, 03:29 PM Press release: ************** OSDH Reminds Oklahomans to Stay Diligent as COVID-19 Transmission Increases Across State 7/18/22 OKLAHOMA CITY – As COVID-19 transmission continues to increase throughout the state, the State Department of Health (OSDH) is reminding Oklahomans tools are available to help protect themselves and their loved ones. With at-home, non-reportable tests readily available, it is difficult to know the full scope of current cases, however it is clear transmission has been increasing. Hospitalizations are also increasing, but fortunately at a considerably slower pace than we have seen in previous surges. “One of the best things you can do if you are symptomatic is to test and stay home,” says Keith Reed, Commissioner of Health. “Taking these precautions will help reduce community transmission. Additionally, there are tools available you can choose to use to protect yourself including good handwashing, testing, vaccination and wearing a mask in high-risk areas. Effective treatments are also available, including antiviral medications and antibody treatment.” The state has ample supply of vaccine and anti-viral medication. At-home COVID-19 tests are available for purchase at various retail outlets or free through the USPS. On-site testing is also available throughout the state. For the 99,99% who are vacced or have had covid, or dont care if they get sick, its fine to go back to life as it was before. For some of us that is not possible. I've been vaccinated and boosted for a while now, so I didn't have much fear of the symptoms becoming severe, but I wasn't prepared for their breadth. Back in June, when I tested positive for covid, the main symptoms were feeling like sandpaper was pressed against my throat, coughing a lot, with a fever of around 100.5 and tired. Having had strep throat before was worse to put up with. I quit the Pfizer vaccines since the first two, due to how controversial they are and because Paxlovid works good for treatment. We both came down with the bug over the weekend. Was fine one day and then boom the next. Both had Pfizer vaccines last year and one booster in the fall - none this year as they seemed pointless. The bug itself initially felt like King Kong had picked me up in his giant hand and was squeezing me all over every few minutes. Also felt very weak and fatigued. Not really much of a fever or cough, runny nose and allergy symptoms are likely from going outside to check the mail with the ragweed and mold so high. Feeling better today but was just prescribed Paxlovid, which is a good thing since i need to mow my yard soon! Unfortunately wastewater surveillance numbers are still slowly trending upwards and have been for the entire last month; the average concentration of detectable virus in wastewater across the state is now up to 1.1 million copies per liter as of this morning's update. That's solidly in the medium category for community transmission. Wastewater surveillance is a pretty effective tool for monitoring community spread, especially since the results of at-home rapid tests often go unreported.
