Do you know someone in the businesses involved that say this development won't be built? It's been in the works for years now. The city has already passed a TIF for it. I'll be glad to see the ground breaking next year to see it's being built. But to promise that nothing shown will be built is a stretch. Especially the 3 primary towers

This could be said about Strawberry Fields too. Been in the works for years now. City already passed TIF. The big difference here is the developer is reputable and has a track record of success and isn't some random person who is being sued for fraud.

Love this proposal. Of course it's a stretch, and it's likely designed more for publicity and possible tax incentives than truly for being built. But it's fun to imagine what's possible, and it might motivate other like-minded developers.

We'll probably get a scaled down version - bigger than the original, but smaller than this.

FYI, Chris, I know you agree with this. I was sloppily pointing out that the key variable in my mind is who is behind a development and whether there is experience and proven credibility there. From what I’ve seen, this group looks legit (as compared to Pat Salame, for example).

I take issue with this plenty of teachers would and have taken a bullet for children under their care. Public schools are the single greatest institution this country has. So Ryan Walter’s “finds” one graphic novel in one library that’s apparently no one else has found. Public schools helped pay for my $400k home. Educate my Dr wife. Maybe you should consider that other tax payers don’t want their kids being subjected to some creepy Duggar family fundy school.

It's not really proposed, it's more like it's an ambition of sorts, a demonstration of what's in the mind of the developer. If they ever actually go through with it, it would be substantially sized down.

I just can't see this ever happening, but if it does, well that would be damned cool. Sort of like Devon, it will stick out like a sore thumb compared to the other buildings in downtown. If you thought the Devon Tower was a big middle finger, well what's this one? lol.

It says, it's dependent on the success of the other towers. We've yet to really build any downtown residential to the scale of the first 3 towers in this project. Conversions are not the same thing, neither are the suburban apartment complexes in Bricktown/Deep Deuce. So like they said, we'll see. Do we have enough market draw to get anywhere near this? I'm skeptical myself. One of the ever-present challenges is that downtown is in OKC Public Schools. I believe, specifically feeding in to Douglas? Yes we have some charters around. But honestly, i'm not living in downtown without a better education option for my children. I think that's going to be a big hindrance.

This location is within the capture zone for John Rex Charter Elementary and Middle School which are a draw for some parents based on waiting lists to get in from people not in the attendance zone. While the fourth 1700+ ft tower definitely feels like a pie in the sky project and if built will likely be at least half as tall, the rest of the project has all the signs of being built, and being built fast. I can see it being complete in the next three years. And please, please lets get that fourth tower. Could you imagine walking out of Eischen's Bar in Okarche, after a night of drinking and eating fried chicken, and easily seeing this thing glowing in the distance?

They claim Larry Nichols and the downtown development board wouldn’t approve it because it would overshadow the Devon Tower. I call bullsh!t. They would approve it if it was seriously proposed and build permits submitted.

Furthermore they ask who would live in a building so high. Lots of people live in very tall buildings so I’d guess a lot of people would. Not only that it’ll still be the second tallest residential building in the world when built. I bet it’s successful if built. I will personally guarantee OKC as my second home here as opposed to Edmond if it’s built. I want a unit as high as possible.

If there is nothing to compare to, than what's the point? I always thought this about Burj Khalifa with it being in the middle of the desert. Looks like just your everyday tower since there is no frame of reference.

it’s a project that few, outside of okctalk, would’ve noticed or cared about until it was completed. No way it would’ve generated the buzz this did. If that was their goal, job well done. I’m not sure why so many people are annoyed about it LOL. Just laugh, be glad that people even thought to propose something like this here, realize it’s the unlikely part of an otherwise killer development and move on lol. Even if we got a 1/4 or 1/3 of the height they proposed in a scaled down version, it would be a big deal. No need to be so serious.
