View Full Version : Boardwalk at Bricktown / Dream Hotel
HangryHippo 12-18-2023, 03:53 PM Hey, if being stable means not wanting my kids to see porn in the classroom, call me stable
Any issues taking them around priests? Or is it just libraries?
How do these threads take these turns lol
OKCTalk comment threads slowly transitioning into Reddit has been sad

Yup. Overall, outward and public negativity is becoming increasingly normalized. That’s what we’re seeing. OKCTalk has remained a safe space for educated people who want what’s best for OKC. Let’s be the community of optimists! Not the Instagram comment section residents who have nothing but complains with no logic and political arguments.
king183 12-18-2023, 04:15 PM Do you know someone in the businesses involved that say this development won't be built? It's been in the works for years now. The city has already passed a TIF for it. I'll be glad to see the ground breaking next year to see it's being built. But to promise that nothing shown will be built is a stretch. Especially the 3 primary towers
This could be said about Strawberry Fields too. Been in the works for years now. City already passed TIF. The big difference here is the developer is reputable and has a track record of success and isn't some random person who is being sued for fraud.

Now this is a good read, lol
CatholicSooner 12-18-2023, 04:39 PM The irony of CATHOLIC sooner lecturing anyone on taking your children around non trustworthy people LOL wow, just wow...
What is your point? All Catholics are pedophiles?
The ironic thing is that teachers are more likely to sexually harass a child than a priest is
That backfired huh
CatholicSooner 12-18-2023, 04:41 PM Any issues taking them around priests? Or is it just libraries?
I have issues with leaving children alone with any adult, regardless of priest or teacher or policeman.
Timshel 12-18-2023, 04:44 PM If we finish building the turnpike to essentially be a ring road around the city, OKC could be a giant sundial for our country with the new building serving as the sundial's gnomon!

In your case yes, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if you were a pedo. And There is NO way that stat is true, NO WAY. maybe its more reported in schools because its not covered up and over looked. So no. No backfire at all.
Are you a teacher too *Side eyes*
EtanEiko 12-18-2023, 04:49 PM I have issues with leaving children alone with any adult, regardless of priest or teacher or policeman.
Is this because you know how you'd act around them!?

C'mon man. personal attacks are uncalled for. You are essentially calling me a pedo for not wanting porn in schools. You do see how backwards that is right?
And it is a true stat. Deny it all you want. A child is more likely to be molested by a teacher than a catholic priest.

There is more porn in your little bible than there is in any book in any public school library in Oklahoma. Personal attacks are completely called for when the one they are being hurled at deserves them.
EtanEiko 12-18-2023, 04:55 PM I know these will get deleted and hell I might get my account removed but 100% worth it. SO tired of brainless sheep like you Catholic sooner demonizing PUBLIC SCHOOLS and covering up sexual abuse in your cult of a religion. Make it make sense.
Chicken In The Rough 12-18-2023, 04:56 PM Love this proposal. Of course it's a stretch, and it's likely designed more for publicity and possible tax incentives than truly for being built. But it's fun to imagine what's possible, and it might motivate other like-minded developers.
We'll probably get a scaled down version - bigger than the original, but smaller than this.
About a month ago, I asked for an iconic art or landmark architecture. This certainly scratches that itch.
aDark 12-18-2023, 05:04 PM Pete, get Catholic Sooner and whomever else is guilty the heck outta here.

Let’s get away from the personal attacks. And I’m being 100% serious here and sincere. If you would like to meet up for a beer or something and you’re in Oklahoma City I’d be totally willing. But do you honestly think that it’s OK to have corn in school libraries?

I’m simply defending myself in my face here. I’m not the one that brought up the politics or name
king183 12-18-2023, 05:12 PM Guys, seriously shut up with this crap and move on. You’re ruining this thread acting like children.
Bali_Sooner 12-18-2023, 05:15 PM Love this. I hope they build it. If not 134, 100 would be cool. "OKC100" or "Century Tower"
Tyson 12-18-2023, 05:15 PM Holy cow my friends. You all know better.

FYI, Chris, I know you agree with this. I was sloppily pointing out that the key variable in my mind is who is behind a development and whether there is experience and proven credibility there. From what I’ve seen, this group looks legit (as compared to Pat Salame, for example).
ABryant 12-18-2023, 05:22 PM Love this. I hope they build it. If not 134, 100 would be cool. "OKC100" or "Century Tower"
6 posts since 2008. That is badass. Legendary.
CatholicSooner 12-18-2023, 05:31 PM Might as well make it 1889 ft and call it Land Run Tower
What is your point? All Catholics are pedophiles?
The ironic thing is that teachers are more likely to sexually harass a child than a priest is

I take issue with this plenty of teachers would and have taken a bullet for children under their care. Public schools are the single greatest institution this country has. So Ryan Walter’s “finds” one graphic novel in one library that’s apparently no one else has found. Public schools helped pay for my $400k home. Educate my Dr wife. Maybe you should consider that other tax payers don’t want their kids being subjected to some creepy Duggar family fundy school.
It's not really proposed, it's more like it's an ambition of sorts, a demonstration of what's in the mind of the developer. If they ever actually go through with it, it would be substantially sized down.
Big if. I doubt the fourth tower comes to fruition. Let’s concentrate on the plausible ones first

Funnily enough the Edmond sub is fairly drama free.

Yes that was funny :Smiley122
best part;
That may seem comically excessive, over-the-top, and a bit too much like a Sim City arcology, but you have to remember – For the last 12 years, the OKC skyline has looked like a giant ____ protruding out of a field of tiny _____, so I guess we might as well add a huge _____ to it.
jerrywall 12-18-2023, 06:39 PM My wife's comment
"It looks like Bricktown is compensating for something."
I'd love for us to get a new skyscraper though. Especially one focused on residences.
CatholicSooner 12-18-2023, 06:41 PM How about no phallic imagery in the schools or in the skyline? ;)
I second this
Jeepnokc 12-18-2023, 06:48 PM https://www.oklahoman.com/story/news/2023/12/18/proposed-okc-skyscraper-what-we-know-about-apartment-plans-financing/71958934007/
I just can't see this ever happening, but if it does, well that would be damned cool. Sort of like Devon, it will stick out like a sore thumb compared to the other buildings in downtown. If you thought the Devon Tower was a big middle finger, well what's this one? lol.
It says, it's dependent on the success of the other towers. We've yet to really build any downtown residential to the scale of the first 3 towers in this project. Conversions are not the same thing, neither are the suburban apartment complexes in Bricktown/Deep Deuce. So like they said, we'll see. Do we have enough market draw to get anywhere near this? I'm skeptical myself. One of the ever-present challenges is that downtown is in OKC Public Schools. I believe, specifically feeding in to Douglas? Yes we have some charters around. But honestly, i'm not living in downtown without a better education option for my children. I think that's going to be a big hindrance.
This location is within the capture zone for John Rex Charter Elementary and Middle School which are a draw for some parents based on waiting lists to get in from people not in the attendance zone. They would like to add a high school at some point. https://johnrexschool.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/John-Rex-with-Zone-Changes-20200108.pdf
You guys just need to see this person is not a serious person. This is like a 5th grader jumping curbs with his bike saying he’s going to enter the x games and compete in the bmx circuit. This guys company doesn’t have a working website from what I can tell and his biggest developments are renovations. I’m sorry but I’ve seen this way too many times. Believe me. Do not set your expectations high
oklanime 12-18-2023, 09:59 PM While the fourth 1700+ ft tower definitely feels like a pie in the sky project and if built will likely be at least half as tall, the rest of the project has all the signs of being built, and being built fast. I can see it being complete in the next three years. And please, please lets get that fourth tower. Could you imagine walking out of Eischen's Bar in Okarche, after a night of drinking and eating fried chicken, and easily seeing this thing glowing in the distance?
Plutonic Panda 12-18-2023, 09:59 PM https://thelostogle.com/2023/12/18/developers-tease-new-downtown-okc-skyscraper-to-rule-them-all
Now this is a good read, lol
They claim Larry Nichols and the downtown development board wouldn’t approve it because it would overshadow the Devon Tower. I call bullsh!t. They would approve it if it was seriously proposed and build permits submitted.
Furthermore they ask who would live in a building so high. Lots of people live in very tall buildings so I’d guess a lot of people would. Not only that it’ll still be the second tallest residential building in the world when built. I bet it’s successful if built. I will personally guarantee OKC as my second home here as opposed to Edmond if it’s built. I want a unit as high as possible.
If anyone here is ever been on a new modern super tall then you’ll know how fast these elevators move.
Sonicthunder 12-18-2023, 10:07 PM It’s cool and all but i think at most it will be 70 stories..more likely the 40-60 range

Forty to 60 story residential would be amazing.
The whole development is promising.
Sonicthunder 12-18-2023, 11:17 PM Yea even if the 4th tower isn’t built at all it’s a game changer for OKC
Sonicthunder 12-18-2023, 11:27 PM I don’t think it’s coincidence that these renderings were released right after the arena vote makes me think what we don’t know about that also got a green light as a result
Plutonic Panda 12-18-2023, 11:39 PM I think this is being designed for PPanda! :)
Lol. Definitely an early Christmas for me this year
PhiAlpha 12-19-2023, 04:30 AM I think this is being designed for PPanda! :)
only if it has a 6 lane highway to the top instead of an elevator LOL.
Bali_Sooner 12-19-2023, 07:46 AM How about no phallic imagery in the schools or in the skyline? ;) if you're looking for it...anything can seem phallic. The state of Oklahoma looks like a small dong with a gigantic sack.
bombermwc 12-19-2023, 07:49 AM I dont think the 4th tower has a chance, but purpose built residential towers of any kind....not just suburban style complexes, is a new thing for OKC. It's not a re-hab to upscale, it's not a 3 level complex or whatever, it's not townhouses. It's a true residential purpose built structure. If that actually happens on it's own and nothing else, it's a good win for downtown living. Anything of any size at all that comes from a 4th tower would be icing on the cake.
bombermwc 12-19-2023, 07:49 AM Might want to merge the threads....

If there is nothing to compare to, than what's the point? I always thought this about Burj Khalifa with it being in the middle of the desert. Looks like just your everyday tower since there is no frame of reference.

Which is exactly what anyone would have predicted would happen with such an outlandish and unserious proposal handed to local news sources, and hence why it annoyed so many of us. It is a complete distraction from what is otherwise a killer project for Bricktown and all of downtown.

it’s a project that few, outside of okctalk, would’ve noticed or cared about until it was completed. No way it would’ve generated the buzz this did. If that was their goal, job well done. I’m not sure why so many people are annoyed about it LOL. Just laugh, be glad that people even thought to propose something like this here, realize it’s the unlikely part of an otherwise killer development and move on lol. Even if we got a 1/4 or 1/3 of the height they proposed in a scaled down version, it would be a big deal. No need to be so serious.
