There have been tons of trucks and dirt moving for a few months now.
Does anybody know what is planned?

I think that ODOT is leasing that land to stage construction phases. They've been storing Jersey barriers and equipment mostly for the highway project nearby.

Ah that makes sense. I was hoping they were finally developing it.

I may be mistaken, but I thought the state or Oklahoma county purchased that land so that nothing would be developed on it as it lies in the flight path of Tinker’s runways.

Yes, it's owned by Oklahoma County. Not sure on the reasoning since there are things built all around it anyway.

There was a whole big stink from someone in the air force when the big plans were put together for the large development that would have spread from this corner up to where the current development is. Basically, if it were up to this guy, all of Midwest City and Del City would have been vacant and the runway clearance would have extended like 5 miles out. Obviously it was never going to happen and was absurd. But, that was the opportunity to get another chunk of land.

Personally, i think it was a mistake. Yes this is on the diagonal runway path, but apparently they think this isn't ok but the barracks on the base which are also in the path, are ok. It's hypocritical and dumb. Now, to be fair though, if you go DIRECTLY nw from the runway and follow in a straight line, over the golf course/etc, this plot of land is directly i the path along with the portion of the Tinker Industrial Park that never got built. It's also been 50+ years since there's been an incident involving a Tinker aircraft hasn't it? So where do you balance safety/risk and economic development?
