Two-story BBQ restaurant and live music space to open at Chisholm Creek (https://www.okctalk.com/content.php?r=715-Two-story-BBQ-restaurant-and-live-music-space-to-open-at-Chisholm-Creek)
Provision Concepts, proprietors of Broadway 10 Bar & Chophouse, Hatch Early Mood Food, Sidecar Barley & Wine Bar, Birra Birra Craft Pizzeria, Bibi's Ice Cream, and Chicken Foot continue to grow their footprint with an ambitious new restaurant and entertainment venue: Bandee's BBQ.

Bandee's will transform the former 2-story Republic Gastropub space in Tract 30 in the Chisholm Creek development on Memorial Road between Western and Penn.
Experienced with live music at the popular Sidecar also in Tract 30, owners Aaron Soward and Jeff Dixon will install a large stage upstairs and a smaller version on the main level for live music performances. The upstairs setting will include an extensive house sound and lighting system.
Overhead doors on the ground floor will open to a large mostly covered patio area with heaters that will provide ample seating amid extensive landscaping.
A dedicated ToGo transaction counter will facilitate curbside pickup and delivery.
Jeff Dixon told OKCTalk, “There isn't enough room in the existing kitchen to do barbeque right so we are building an exterior smokehouse just north of the parking garage. We have three one thousand gallon offset smokers being built right now as well as two rotisseries. Nothing beats prime brisket cooked slow and low all day with real wood.”
Bandee's hopes to open in May.

BoulderSooner 01-08-2021, 02:41 PM very cool
thunderbird 01-08-2021, 02:45 PM Does anyone REALLY like their food? I've tried all but Chickin Foot and I'm not a big enough fan to return to any for a second visit. That said, this looks legit and I'm sure it'll kill it.
BigSully 01-08-2021, 03:20 PM Finally, a BBQ place that doesn't look like a barn inside, and has real music and a real bar.
No offense to Iron Starr, I love that place, but it's not exactly a rippin' bar.
AMinEdmond 01-08-2021, 03:25 PM You dont think the food at Broadway10, Hatch are good?! Just curious, where do you eat? These are some of the best restaurants in the metro. Birra Birra and Chicken foot are both solid, not amazing.

B10, but that's it. I thought chicken foot was good if you didn't want to drive out to Okarche. Similar style.

The food is mediocre at B10. There are some good items and then some underwhelming items. I've quit going.
mgharfeh 01-08-2021, 10:12 PM This is amazing! The to-go spot isn’t taking over Jerky store is it?

I think Broadway 10 is pretty good. It’s not on the level of the ranch or mahogany for me, but it blows away redprime and Mickey mantles.
I’ve never been to sidecar, but I will agree with Thunderbird on their other concepts. Other than hatch, they were all pretty average in my opinion.

No, it will go in where Republic used to be.

No, Jerky.com is just north of the To Go entrance (the beige space in the rendering).

I donÂ’t hate any of them, I just donÂ’t think they are very good at food. They are great at design and location selection, which perhaps is more important these days.
We eat out most meals and as most people commenting on restaurants in message boards, have strong opinions. Our favorites in no order are Iguana, Ranch, Osteria, Frida, Jonnies (I know, I know), Clark crew, Chae RIP, 501 and I mix in a lot of coolgreens and Zoe’s so I don’t die before 40. 🤣

The original closed on 23rd; the new one on Western is quite a different animal but good in its own way.

Well, yeah, but it's been on Western for years, seems like the grieving period should be over, especially since it's been semi-resurrected. :)
thunderbird 01-11-2021, 10:45 AM Don't tell me how long I can grieve! I feel like I can get another year on it:)
The one on western has some good things but if nobody told me I wouldn't know it was in anyway related to the place Danny ran on his on off 23rd.

There are all those stages of grieving to get through.... ;) We never made it to his old place, but I thought a bunch of that menu made it over to the new place, but maybe not, guess it's good we're ignorant in this case, we really like a lot of the stuff at the Western location.

Weird, we saw him in the Western location almost every time we went (at least 6-7 times), and he ran for County Treasurer a year or so ago. We haven't been there in a while, though, so don't know the current status of where he is now.

Didn’t he run for office? Why’d he move?
Didn’t he run for office? Why’d he move?
Daniel ran for OK County Treasurer and lost a relatively close election in 2018 as a Democrat running against an incumbent Republican.
Daniel got a great job opportunity in L.A. and moved out there shortly thereafter. OKC lost a great one there, as he is super sharp and returned to Oklahoma after being very accomplished elsewhere before making the decision to move on once again. Also, one of the nicest guys ever.

That jibes with our timeline of the last time we were there and saw him last, good to know, thanks, once we get the vaccine we'll have to go by and see if the food or quality has changed.

I'm sure the acts will be mostly local.

Makes sense, thanks!
Jeepnokc 08-01-2021, 02:34 PM We ate there last night for the soft opening. Few drinks at the bar first. Drinks were well made and a nice variety of choices. A lot of draft beers also. The bloody mary comes with a bacon slice and a rib.
Dinner was fantastic. We started with the texas twinkies, chicken fried brisket, wings and fried pickles. The twinkies are basically bacon wrapped stuffed jalapenos and were on point. The pickles were sliced spears but they were thin sliced so was more like a long pickle slice. These were excellent also. Wings were perfectly smoked but a little on the salty side which they are still adjusting. The chicken fried brisket was really good but not sure why I would order that as an appetizer and not just get brisket for dinner but it does make a great shareable.
For dinner, we order smoked turkey, pulled pork, burnt ends, pastrami smoked beef rib and brisket. (We were a group and we were sharing all). The smoked turkey was the favorite of the table. It was perfectly smoked and was juicy. Would consider ordering one for thanksgiving if they offered them. The smoked rib was huge and two people could easily share it. Brisket was just right. Didn't fall apart but wasn't tough. Nice bend to it when you held it up. The burnt ends was a little fatty but I also think the burnt ends at the wellston place are too fatty. For sides we had mac and cheese, okra, fried cabbage and the green beans. The mac and cheese needed a little salt and pepper, the fried cabbage and green beans were outstanding and the okra was standard fried okra and was prepared correctly. The portion size was more than enough for the table. The sides come in three sizes. single, shareable and quart size.
Upstairs has great vibe and will be a cool place for music. Will return again.

catch22 08-01-2021, 02:57 PM That room looks like an acoustical nightmare. I hope they have some sound dampening panels or something in that live music room to absorb some reverb. The carpet on stage and that dude's shirt are the only absorptive material in that room.
Ribs and menu look great!
boilerup35 08-01-2021, 03:36 PM They are very proud of their food as seen by the prices. $32/lb for burnt ends is crazy and $21 for a quart of Mac and cheese is insane. Looks like I'll be sticking with Clark Crew which is already a splurge as far as bbq goes.
$8 for a Sam Adams is a joke too. Add in the liquor tax and sales tax and you are paying close to $10 for a pint of mediocre beer where other major cities you'd pay $5-6 a pint taxes included.
OkiePoke 08-01-2021, 04:43 PM That sign stands out quite a bit. I drove by today and had a good laugh.

I was curious about price comparison so went and looked. From their online menus from Bandees and Clark Crew (CC)
Brisket (Chopped or sliced)
cc- 1/2 LB $15/ one pound $26
Bandees 1/2 LB $14/ one pound $28
Lets look a the burnt ends that were quoted
cc- 1/2 LB $16/ one pound $27
Bandees 1/2 LB $16/ one pound $32
It appears the big difference is that CC gives a bigger break on ordering a pound of each meat. Both charge $5 for sausage links Bandees does 1/4 pound meat options (which are 1/2 price of the 1/2 pound) that CC doesn't but CC offers mixed meat trays
I think you can pick and choose different examples but overall.... I think the pricing appears to be pretty comparable
I do not see whether the drinks includes the liquor tax or not. I was drinking mixed drinks and thought the drinks were in line with other restaurants Eight to fourteen a drink except the bloody mary which comes with bacon and a rib
Martin 08-02-2021, 07:46 AM I think you can pick and choose different examples but overall.... I think the pricing appears to be pretty comparable

My thoughts exactly. Travis Clark had a great pedigree before CC opened and has delivered an excellent product the handful of times that I've visited. Bandee's is an unknown quantity and is charging more than what some would argue is the best bbq in the city. Bandee's better be amazing or they'll quickly need to lower prices to woo diners.

To be fair meat prices are absolutely insane right now beef and chicken are especially high.

That is a cop out. Prime brisket is back to 3.99/lb at Costco after peaking around 5.19/lb and whole chickens have always been .99/lb. I assume a restaurant buying in bulk would get better pricing. Pork is still pretty high at $5/lb for ribs at Costco, but Bandee's pork prices aren't as egregious.

I think Clark serves Snake River Farms beef (maybe all meat), and that's pretty expensive stuff anyway, not that he's paying as much as you and I would. Either way, I don't get why we're getting caught up on price. Good BBQ joints around here tend to be expensive and also tend to stay in business. If people don't think the food matches the prices, the place won't last. Sounds like the Edge folks are legit, for instance. I'd certainly like to try them out.
I might never get to Bandee's. I live a few blocks from the BBQ joint at Britton and May (the 2nd one in as many years) and have never been. Since I took up smoking meat a few years ago, I really don't eat much BBQ I don't cook myself. It is always good to know where the good BBQ is, though.

the brisket in one smoker and 3 slabs of ribs in my other smoker that i have running right now makes me think i'm right there with you.

Hard to beat smoking meat in your own backyard, really. But I do want to try a few of these places. I have learned it's easier, if more expensive, to order sides from a BBQ joint to accompany my smoked meat, so I do need to get out a little more.
SSEiYah 08-03-2021, 10:20 AM After tax and 20% gratuity the $28/lb brisket comes out to $36.50/lb. That is 20-30% higher than most BBQ spots in OKC. Blacks BBQ in Austin for example is currently charging $22/lb for brisket.
Billy Sims - $19/lb | Leo's - $19/lb | Earls Rib Palace - $20/lb | Rudy's - $20-22/lb | Butcher BBQ - $22/lb | Clark Crew - $26/lb
I have a bit of a portion control issue myself when it comes to BBQ so maybe the prices will keep me from overeating.
OKC4me 08-03-2021, 10:25 AM Is this a sit down place with a server as opposed to ordering at the counter, and getting it yourself? If there is a server, you're gonna ad another 20% to already fairly pricey bbq.

Other than the okra I had at Edge Craft which I really liked, my go to sides for BBQ are potato salad and baked beans and I've never founding any that are close to as good as mine.

Clark's beans are pretty darn good. I will say I don't make okra, I always just buy it. Not worth the hassle of deep frying.
chssooner 08-03-2021, 12:20 PM The market will correct the pricing here. If people don't buy it, they will lower the prices. Or go out of business. Pretty simple.

I agree about okra. I love it, but not worth the hassle to make it especially from scratch. I thought Edge Craft's beans were better than Clark Crew, but both were pretty standard. My baked beans include smoke sausage, peppered bacon and red and green bell peppers and onions sautéed in the bacon grease. They make a pretty good meal on their own. Very labor intensive, though. What sets my potato salad apart are home canned pickles and their juice.

It’s a balancing act for sure. The face rents at Chisholm Creek aren’t exactly an easy lift, especially for low-margin businesses like restaurants.

IMHO, Clint Black is the Tom Petty of country music.
Thomas Vu 08-04-2021, 02:05 PM I'd have to imagine being the majority tenant of CC in general that Provisions get a deal in regards to rent over there.
Plutonic Panda 08-25-2021, 11:14 AM I really have only recently been getting into BBQ and haven't been to too many places yet, so I might catch some sh*t saying this from the more seasoned BBQ eaters on this board, but the Burnt Ends plate here is probably the best BBQ I've had to date. I went around 3 after smoking a nice stick at Rocky Patel and this is a really nice area. I've been going to Sidecar and it stays pretty busy every night.
My only complaint with this facility is the barstools were unconfortable.

We all had to start somewhere.... I remember before I started blogging, and became a KCBS judge, I thought Earl's was some stellar BBQ..... Now after a few thousand miles of chasing BBQ around the country..... Well let's just say I haven't been back to Earl's in years.
But I always said on my blog that BBQ is one of the most subjective foods on the planet. Just because I like it doesn't mean you will.... So get out and try new places and find what you like because there are a lot of variations of BBQ out there.
jedicurt 08-25-2021, 12:06 PM but the Burnt Ends plate here is probably the best BBQ I've had to date.
i was there last week. and i have to say that in my extremely large order of wanting to try a bit of everything (and it gave me enough to have lunch and dinner left overs for 4 days), i have to say that the Burnt Ends were really really good, and the best thing on the menu here. all and all, i felt that most of the other food was good, certainly better than what most people though of BBQ in oklahoma. but i wouldn't say great. but the burnt ends were certainly a star
My only complaint with this facility is the barstools were unconfortable.
also glad i wasn't the only one with this issue with the barstools.

That space is really, really tough. Way too big and the 2-level design is a big challenge.... Especially at Chisholm Creek rents. It doomed Republic as well, the original tenant.
I bet the 2nd level is converted to office space and then the first level could still work as a restaurant/bar.

Not surprising at all. A beautiful space, of course, but every other aspect of the operation was executed well below the market standard.
