Bandees BBQ closing on 9/24/2023.

That's a bummer. Always smelled delicious, and seemed fairly busy given the location at Chisholm Creek.

Bandees BBQ closing on 9/24/2023.

This news surprises me. They have always appeared to host a lot of events and were pretty well featured in a lot of posts I see on social media. I've never been, admittedly. Wonder what they'll do with the big guitar?

Not surprising at all. A beautiful space, of course, but every other aspect of the operation was executed well below the market standard.

I was just saying in the closings thread it surprised me, only because they seem to be featured in a lot of stuff I see on social media, and they seemed to host a lot of events. I had no idea they weren't doing very well.

I agree with you Pete, about the 2 story setting. It was weird when I visited Republic.

Bandees BBQ announces its last day of operation to be 9/24/2023.

That doesn't surprise me, what baffled me was why they opened this concept in the first place and who gave these operators the money to waste like this. I saw so many times, new guys took a place left by the previous tenants, spent tons of money renovating it even though the concept was questionable, business failed, next guys come in, and repeat.

Maybe the guitar not spinning anymore was a sign?

I went once, thought they were overpriced for what they offered. They had the special events, but they didn't really do the core business that great.

The corner just doesn't do that great. Maybe if the space was smaller, someone could do better.

I will take some heat on this comment, but I do think parking is somewhat of an issue when Fuzzy's and Hatch out competes you for parking spaces. There is an advantage towards being more in the middle of the parking strip. Yes, there is a plenty of parking in the garage, however, when there is only one building in Chisholm Creek that is setup like this, it becomes an issue. When given an opportunity, humans will chose the lazy path. Its difficult to give up the car culture in suburbs.

it was way too expensive for the quality of BBQ that you got. i tried it a few times, and there were a couple of "okay" items, but i could get way better BBQ elsewhere for a much much cheaper price. I don't mind paying a high price for great BBQ, but i did have an issue paying a high price for just meh BBQ

I mean it’s operated by Provision Concepts who have a pretty stellar track record as did good egg with republic before them, I’m not sure why anyone would question their ability to run a restaurant and/or who or why someone would finance this or any other concept created by either of those groups. It just didn’t hit and I think it might be the first of their concepts to fail. It was probably very close to Good Egg’s first concept to fail as well.

Iron Star in Campus Corner?

We have been several times and thought it was okay. Used the north room for a club meeting a couple three times and always drew over 30 people. And that is a group that isn't afraid to share their opinion early and often. Food and set up were always good enough. Service and ancillary issues were always inept and self-inflicted wounds. Things like never putting a shade or screen on the windows that blast straight into the meeting room from 7 to 8 PM; not turning down the music in the meeting room; goofy coordination of taking orders and serving. Yet, people always showed up for the next meeting we would have there.

Wife and I will be sure and go at least once more before they quit.

They lost Iron Starr in Norman, Market-C & Pops who they were running for Aubrey at the time all at once back in 2010. I would venture to guess that the Pop's money at the time was keeping the others from going under. I don't think they lost anything else until that Republic failed but I could be wrong.

The only thing I was surprised about on Bandee's is the fact they opened it in the first place. I don't think people really questioned it because it's Provision Concepts but this was a very very risky move that IMO didn't have much of a chance. That Republic struggled for awhile there, should have been a clue.

Plenty of restaurants succeed where others have failed.

Chicken Foot in this same complex has been doing great business in the space of the failed Hopdoddy. Riserva took over for Chicken Salad Chick.

Both are in Chisholm Creek and operated by Provision Concepts. The difference is that Bandee's space is just too big, especially at Chisholm rental rates.

Finally got the chance to visit Riserva. There were some very good items and some meh items but I don't see it lasting long once the shine wears off. It's preciously expensive yet fails to pull off anything resembling a tapas establishment.

Looking forward to trying out Ramsay's Kitchen.

BBQ is tricky too and the food cost is very high to go along with everything else. All restaurants are tough with slim margins but particularly BBQ. You can't just throw up something trendy and expect it so be a success.

I'm surprised that they didn't wait until the apartments were finished to open.

Chisholm Creek will be rocking and rolling once the residential developments are finished. Bandee's is a cool place to go listen to music, have a cold beer, and eat some decent bar food. Something else just like it will take its place, but success for the next proprietor will be easier the more apartments are built in Chisholm Creek.

Bandee's was close to the most expensive BBQ in the Metro and was probably 30th in quality.

I don't think BBQ lends itself to "trendy" locations. BBQ is best in an old converted building with wooden tables, a gravel parking lot, a separate smokehouse and picnic tables in the back with light strands shining under trees growing toward the creek in the back of the building. There should be old beer signs and a walkup window for carryput orders. :)

While I won't disagree that some of the best BBQ I've eaten (Snow's BBQ in Lexington, TX) fit your description.... There are plenty of "trendy" BBQ places that do quite well.... Locally Clark Crew, Iron Star(r) and, Back Door, while no longer in business, had a good run.

well said. as for Bandee's -- it was objectively some of the worst barbeque in the metro and yet it was facing some of the market's steepest face rents. the math was never going to work on that type of concept.

my suggestion would be Jo-bawbs or Kings custom meats. Both are great. the best outside of butcher bbq stand in my opinion. I personally didn't think clark crew was that great. I gave it a try but was not impressed. Maybe I should again but it feels like Clark crew is trying to do too much. Burgers, Steaks, Pizza, Salads AND bbq. most of the best BBQ places have BBQ and basically nothing else.

i think it matters what you get and your personal tests at Clark Crew. his BBQ is Competition styles. so i don't care for the brisket there at all, but i love South Texas style brisket, and that isn't what he makes. it's just not for me. But they make some of the best pulled pork I have ever had.

I legit got a little of all the basics. I got a sausage, pulled pork, ribs, brisket and I wasn't that impressed. I will say I went only a few weeks after it first opened and should probably give it another try. But Kings and Jo-bawbs are both so good it's hard to venture away to give Clark crew another shot.

I did the same thing and I kept hearing about the burnt ends, which I tried and didn't love. That was a month after they opened. I have tried it since then and enjoyed it. Might have just been a bad BBQ day or not a good cut of meat.
