dankrutka 03-12-2021, 09:28 AM I didn’t think much about this until somebody else mentioned the same at work today.
Did any of you guys notice a funny taste in your mouth shortly after the shot? I noticed an almost metallic taste when walking back to the car.
I got Moderna and definitely did not and haven't heard anyone else mention it.
C_M_25 03-12-2021, 09:50 AM I received the first dose of Pfizer and didn't notice anything like that. I had a bit of soreness and swelling at the injection site (still do a bit, a day and a half later), but nothing else.
Just talked to the doc about it and they said it can happen. It’s possible to taste medicine when injected. It doesn’t happen all the time and it may not even be noticeable, but it can happen.
LocoAko 03-12-2021, 09:52 AM Had no taste with my Pfizer dose.
And I got mine through the Chickasaw Nation as the spouse of a teacher. I had to specify all of this upon sign up, but when I arrived all they checked was my ID and the QR code from the email. I'd brought his teaching ID and my marriage license as proof. Had to laugh at what overkill that seemed like afterward...
OkiePoke 03-12-2021, 10:14 AM Dang, my arm was quite sore the day after my Pfizer shot.
Why is there such a difference between the flu shot, this shot, and say the tetanus shot?

They are all different technologies to create them.
I recently had a 2-does vax for shingles and the second one kicked my butt.
I was achy and my arm was crazy sore for 2-3 days.
I get a flu shot every year and that is always just 24 hours of a sore arm.

Yeah, we both had some reaction to the 2nd shingles shot, kinda the same but not quite as bad as yours. Waiting for my 2 week period from my 2nd shingles shot to be over so I can start the COVID process...
SouthOfTheVillage 03-12-2021, 03:01 PM Seems they allocated too many doses to the Rural Areas. Should be way more shots available in OKC Proper.
Not interested in driving 2 hours or using any of my PJ Time flying to F’ing Gotebo.

I am guessing it is because the city appointments go faster. As time goes on and if those are not used in rural areas they will ship them closer to OKC/Tulsa.
Bellaboo 03-12-2021, 03:39 PM I drove 90 miles to Ponca City for the first dose and 70 miles to Enid for the second dose.
It was great to get out of the house.
Dustin 03-12-2021, 08:34 PM Finally found a good time and booked a first and second dose next week in Chandler! Excited to hopefully put this national nightmare behind us!
Get vaccinated, please!
OKCbyTRANSFER 03-12-2021, 09:24 PM As vaccine availability is improving, they're even doing it at work, a bunch of us have now received our first shot. I'm surprised at how many in work say they won't get it (for whatever reason). Maybe they will change their mind later as more of us get them and our second shot.
CCOKC 03-13-2021, 10:09 AM I didn’t think much about this until somebody else mentioned the same at work today.

I definitely had a metallic taste in my mouth after my Pfizer shot. I mentioned it to my husband who also had the Pfizer vaccine and he said he also did. My arm was sore but only for a few hours while my co-workers' arms were sore for days. It just goes to show that every body reacts differently.
PoliSciGuy 03-13-2021, 12:41 PM Choctaw Nation is now scheduling appointments for *anyone over 18*. Info here:

The tribal nations continue to crush it when it comes to vaccinating folks

I'm glad you brought up shingles.
As someone who had shingles and still experience very significant pain 2 years later, l can't stress enough to those who had chicken pox, GET YOUR SHINGLES VACCINATIONS!! Get it as soon as you can after Covid vacc! Don't wait, don't put it off like l did. You really don't want to feel like bees are constantly stinging you 24-7-364.
^
That sucks you ended up getting shingles. I've heard very bad stories.
My primary care doc strongly recommended that vaccine and I did both doses through Sam's, easy breezy.

My doctor STRONGLY suggested I get the shingles shot a couple years ago. It took a bit at the time to find someone that had it. I ended up at the pharmacy in the Integris Edmond Medical Center.

I got a pair of shingles shots, pneumonia, and flu shot on doctors order 30 days apart at Walgreens a couple of years ago. No big deal at all, except I had to wait in line awhile every time.
I don't understand why my doctor didn't give them but I'm guessing he doesn't make enough money on them to deal with it.
Bill Robertson 03-13-2021, 03:42 PM ^
I wondered about the not doing them in the office too.
Did you get the Shingrix shot?
Did you get the Shingrix shot?
That's what I received - 2 doses.
mkjeeves 03-13-2021, 04:56 PM Yes, Shingrix.
FighttheGoodFight 03-13-2021, 06:23 PM 4.9 million doses today. We will be done with this by the end of May. Almost there team.
dankrutka 03-13-2021, 11:17 PM 4.9 million doses today. We will be done with this by the end of May. Almost there team.
We’re about to hit the time when it’ll become necessary to convince people to get a shot (which is insane!)... the more people we convince the quicker this all ends.

Wait. Less than 500M out of 7+billion vaccinated...oh oh...the US centric mindset.
Carry on.

Or optimism and hope vs. pessimism and chronic negativism.
PoliSciGuy 03-14-2021, 08:57 PM Or optimism and hope vs. pessimism and chronic negativism.
Seriously. We've dumped $4bn into COVAX which seeks to vaccine 1bn people in the developing world, and the infrastructure we've built up to vaccinate us here in the US is going to also expedite vaccination around the globe.
Yes, there's global inequality, but the US ramping up this quickly is going to have global benefits.
mugofbeer 03-14-2021, 09:07 PM Yes, seriously. You just go on havin' those negative thoughts if you want. Not everyone wants to be down all the time.
"Fight The Good Fight" - good positive screen name, good positive thought and a good positive song.
PoliSciGuy 03-14-2021, 09:10 PM I was agreeing with you, we've had a year of constant negative news, we need to be hopeful for the future. Covid on the retreat, economy booming back, 2021-2022 is going to be a heckuva time. I hope OKC (and Denver!) bounces back and takes advantage of that.
mugofbeer 03-14-2021, 09:16 PM Thank you for correcting me. I am distracted right now so I misread. All l have to give right now is to be hopeful and positive. My only brother is now desperately ill with covid and was due to be vaccinated when the OK snowstorm hit.
There is no excuse for not getting vaccinated when you become eligible and it's available.
FighttheGoodFight 03-14-2021, 10:31 PM I have seen a lot from “doomers” online that this vaccine will do nothing and we all have to stay at home forever. I try to keep it positive. There is a lot that Oklahoma doesn’t do great but this vaccine rollout has been a great triumph.
For all my nerd friend I am thinking about the next A Song of Ice and Fire novel “A Dream of Spring.” A little hope goes a long way.

FighttheGoodFight 03-15-2021, 12:04 PM 942k now have at least one dose here in Oklahoma (https://twitter.com/KOCODillon/status/1371506689971613698?s=20)
We have fallen to 12th overall in the US for at least one shot but I think we are doing pretty great. Seems to still be a high demand out there.
Huge clinic for thousands of doses at OCU this Wednesday. Should be on VAXokc.com

Due to the politics and related misinformation and distrust around this issue, when all is said and done you can bet Oklahoma will end up being near the bottom when it comes to vaccinations per capita.
I personally know a bunch of people here who have said they will never take the vax. Of course, Oklahoma already had a big anti-vax movement before this pandemic.

My entire family lives in Oklahoma except for me, and 1 aunt in Florida. My 2 aunts, and myself are the only ones of my immediate family who will, or plans to get a vaccine. The rest are completely refusing. Very frustrating. My brother has asthma, so I really hope he is careful given the pneumatical potential this disease carries. Although I know he is not. He is in a gym every day, and has already taken multiple trips to Miami to party over the pandemic.
Sad to see your own family refuse to jump on the lifeboat. Help is here, but we are too Red-Dirt tough to need it. Annoying.
End rant.

Interestingly..many around my office said they wouldn’t get it but when they offered vaccines in the office last week those same people went ahead and got it when they saw everyone else getting it.
I have had mine but no one else in my family wants it yet because they have all had COVID already.
On another note- why is there no clinics posted yet for this week in Oklahoma county on Vaxokc.com
FighttheGoodFight 03-15-2021, 01:09 PM Wild. My whole family signed up and so far most have already got one or two doses.

Luckily they have all just had it in the last month so they are protected for now I’d assume

I've seen quite a few stories lately that a lot of hesitant or resistant people are actually fairly willing to change their mind once you start talking with them. A lot of people are really uninformed and are relying on a general distrust. I recommend just asking questions, listening honestly, and try to replace their void of information with accurate information. Don't give up on people. Just start with, can you tell me why you're not interested in getting a vaccine?
Thomas Vu 03-15-2021, 10:02 PM I was told in an interview that I'd most likely have no issue walking into mercy and getting one. I figure I'll wait my turn, but if I read enough stories about people here refusing I'll definitely reconsider. Why not take the free help?
soonerguru 03-15-2021, 11:05 PM I got my second shot tonight at the IMMY labs pod in Norman. Very impressive. Sore arm but so excited to resume some semblance of normal living. My wife gets her second shot April 6. We are planning to visit Chicago this summer so we are committed to reentry, although we will do so with care and concern for others.
Tonight on the news a poll was cited suggesting that as many as half of men who identify as Republican are saying they will not get the vaccine. That is a rather high number, but there is an active disinformation campaign afoot (thanks, Russia) so I guess that should not be terribly surprising.
I had a client tell me last week that he will not get the vaccine because doing so will play into Bill Gates' hands. He is convinced the shots contain some sort of tracking device. It's very difficult in that situation not to lose your **** laughing, but it is sad that people actually believe this nonsense. It's a borderline mental health issue.

Today, well tomorrow, will be 2 weeks after my second dose. I am out celebrating tonight at a bar/restaurant. Not out on a bender, but it is nice to finally go out even though things aren’t quite the same. I feel pretty confident at this point. 96% is good, especially paired with an 8% ABV beer from the tap.
Enjoy your trip to Chicago. I love that city. Has been a few years since I have been out that way.
OkiePoke 03-16-2021, 08:04 AM I saw Mayor Holt received his shot recently. Has Stitt done the same?

So are there appts available in OKC at all or am I just looking at vaccine-alerts.com when there aren't any, or do they get snapped up so quickly I just don't see them? I consistently see nothing in OKC listed there no matter what day or time of day I check it.
Not getting mine until Thu or later due to 2-week previous vaccine waiting period and also don't want to get it at the same time wife does so if we both have bad side effects we both won't have them at the same time.

The VaxOKC went live yesterday and was taken within 2 hours.
You have to think this is the most demand there has been yet. Pretty much over a million people looking for an appointment. Most of those people live in OKC/Tulsa metros.
It is just a game of getting lucky. Signing up for the text alerts is probably the fastest way to get one. I do know IMMY is going to do another 10k clinic at the fairgrounds in the coming weeks.

Just seems like they've sorta failed with OKC. JoeBob in some town that doesn't even have one traffic light can probably drive 5 miles and not wait in a line and get his shot, yet there are no appts available in OKC. They should've known the demand in OKC would be super-high and allowed for it, but they haven't.

Yes. You have to sign up for alerts. By the time you search they're gone.

Nice, guess they added more, it's down to 17 now. I've got a company coming tomorrow to replace a garage door opener that has been broken for 2 weeks now, so that's not an option for me, unfortunately.

Thx, too far. I'm WFH now and only going to the grocery (and occasionally hardware) store, and wife just got hers today at Sandridge, so I'll wait until there's something closer.
