^My favorite baseball player ever. Ernie Banks said he was the greatest player of all time and it wasn’t all that close. That can be debated but he was in a very small group of the greatest of the great.

Growing up my favorite team and player was the Pittsburgh Pirates (Forbes Field) and Roberto Clemente & Willie Stargell (Oklahoman) were my favorite players. My best friend was a San Francisco Giants' fan (Willie Mays, Willie McCovey & Juan Marichal).

My favorite team in the American League was the Baltimore Orioles (Frank & Brooks Robinson, Jerry Adair (Oklahoman)

Don't follow baseball like I use too. Do remember the game from the 1960s to the 1980s and the great players Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente, Nolan Ryan, Bob Gibson, Johnny Bench*, Mickey Mantle*, Roger Maris . . . Oklahoma (per capita), during those times produced a good share of MLB players.

Just a sidenote, the depth of Willie Mays catch at the polo Grounds was about 425 feet. Only one park today has a depth longer than that catch - Minute Maid Park in Houston at 435. That would have been out or off the wall anywhere else today. Where he made 'the Catch" was at The Polo Grounds which had a depth of 483 feet! No home runs have been hit that far, so far, in 2024.

Though it was Tuesday I just heard that Greg Kihn died. A bunch of us around our 60s remember when MTV first came on the air and played music videos 24/7. We would get home from work, turn MTV on and be mesmerized for hours. The Greg Kihn Band's "The Breakup Song" (They Just Don't Write Em Like That Anymore) was one of the songs played A LOT that first year or so. Sad loss.

I have to say that I think the Weird Al parody of “Our Love’s In Jeopardy” as “I Lost on Jeopardy” was Al’s best ever.

Rest in peace to talk show host Phil Donahue. He died yesterday at the age of 88.

I also noticed last week that Jack Russell, former lead singer of the rock band Great White, passed away at the young age of 63.

I've watched this show for decades and toward the end of Roger's run on the show he was getting noticeably thinner and just not quite right. The cause is unannounced but you could tell it was likely some type of neurological disorder.

Adding on to this, it was a teacher who encouraged him to become verbal, by reading his own poetry. The teacher realized he had a talent for poetry, and that by reading it he could overcome his stutter and his reluctance to speak. Just goes to show how much one teacher can change the world. And how important the humanities can be in a well-rounded education.

I don't have a subscription to the Tulsa World but I occasionally check out their website and it looked like Tito Jackson was attracted to Tulsa and may have had plans to do something there. It is a shame that he passed unexpectedly.

"I was a sailor

And when the yards broke off they said that I got killed
But I am living still"

I lost a good friend today in a horrible auto shop accident explosion in Choctaw. He was the owner of APS, a auto repair shop on NE 23rd. After a bad fire there several years ago he moved his shop to his house property in Choctaw. It has already been on the news. He was a dear friend and one of the best and smartest car repair guy I've ever met. He will be missed by his many friends and customers in the OKC and surrounding area. RIP Bo.
