This place is on NW 50th just east of May.

I go by it all the time when I go to Target and I know they have onion burgers and a ton of pool tables.

I just called to confirm they are non-smoking and they said they are indeed and they made this change in May.

I'm looking forward to trying one of their burgers.

Has anyone been?

Oh wow. That takes me back to the summer after I graduated high school. Some friends “found” it and we thought we were cool going to that place. 25+ years ago. Glad to see some old-school, non-chain places are still around.

Our friends did the same ~15 years ago. We used to play pool their occasionally, but at the time it was smoking. I always heard their burger was good, but haven't tried it.

I'll give it a try and report back. I've long been curious about this place.

I've worked half a mile away from this place for nearly four and a half (nonconsecutive) years, probably driven by it dozens of times, but have never actually set foot inside lol. Might have to change that once I feel comfortable dining in at restaurants again.

I can vouch for Ray's directly to the south being a good old-school breakfast place.

Ray's is another place I'd like to try.

They have Persian food on Thursday nights and it looks really interesting.

Yeah, I need to grab takeout there on a Thursday sometime.

Another good "off the beaten path" place in the area is Cous Cous Cafe, in a strip mall to the south of the Chick-fil-A at NW 61st & May. Very good Moroccan/Mediterranean food and big portion sizes for the price as well.

And then I've mentioned Sheesh Mahal in other threads on here, but just want to give them another shout because they're also in the general vicinity (NW 46th & May) and (IMO) have the best Indian/Pakistani food in the city. That place is run by the absolute nicest people, as well.

Can confirm, Ray's is dope. Persian night is good too.

FWIW, Louis Fowler did a review of Ray's today, here it is if you can handle his writing "skills" (I personally don't like his writing, nor his critical capacity for reviewing a restaurant, YMMV).

Played a lot there in the 70s. Then it was a stop on our pool league for most seasons so I've been there quite a bit in the last 10 years. Yes, the onion burger is not bad at all.

Is the onion burger a true onion burger or just a burger with onions on top of the cooked patty?

Burger with grilled onions on it.

Thanks for the info, I'll pass. Are there any places in the metro (north-side, specifically) that make a true onion burger? Can't do Tucker's because they use peanut oil (both in their fryers and on their grill), and not sure if they're real onion burgers or burgers with onions on top (and doesn't every burger place have an option for a burger with onions on top, anyway?).

I've thought about them, but the reviews are sooooo bad for their locations, I haven't given them much of a second thought. Might have to try them at some point, though, just to see if I happen to hit them on one of their (apparently rare) good days.

I've only been to Bunny's a couple of times, but I enjoyed it each time. Of course I have a soft spot for dives.

I like Bunny's and it's been there quite a while and is genuine.

Thx for the Bunny's info, it's close enough we can get takeout and it won't be completely stone-cold by the time we get home, so might try it next time we want burgers.
