HAL SMITH RESTAURANTS REVEALS NEW CONCEPT
Jimmy B’s coming to historic Automobile Alley

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 19, 2020) – Jimmy B’s is a new concept from Hal Smith Restaurants, which operates OKC hotspots Mahogany Prime Steakhouse, Charleston’s and Redrock Canyon Grill. Located in the former Mercedes showroom on Broadway in downtown Oklahoma City, Jimmy B’s is small in size but big in spirit!

The sleek and casual atmosphere will boast of low-slung exposed wood beams, comfortable deep leather banquettes and retro brick walls. Jimmy B’s has an inviting living room look, tasteful art, flattering lighting, and a relaxed vibe where lunch and dinner conversations swirl. The large open-air patio features an outdoor fireplace surrounded by Adirondack chairs to provide a relaxing space to enjoy first-rate cocktails.

The eclectic menu offering includes a selection of hand rolled sushi, hearty salads, and classic American fare. Tempt your appetite with the Yellowtail Sashimi Kale Salad or the soon to be famous Crispy Chicken Sandwich, made with hand-breaded spicy fried chicken, Swiss cheese, and creamy coleslaw served on a fresh baked toasted sesame roll. Our gracious staff will help you choose the perfect drink from our extensive collection of wines by the glass or our selection of krafted cocktails.

The interior has an upscale Charleston's feel to it. Patio looks like it will be a great spot facing the east at night, no low sun in the face.

And it faces Oklahoma Contemporary and the streetcar line.

Should be a really nice spot and bring some life to Broadway.

Is that really a plus?

The Contemporary is a cool looking building and the park in the space to the west hosts cool outdoor art installations often. So, yes it is a plus.

I was just being snarky. I know a lot of people like it, but I'm not a fan. I will admit it looks much better at night, though.

1.Who Jimmy B?

2. That patio not gonna get a Death-Ray reflection from Contemporary building around 6PM in the summer?

Classy tribute. I am a sucker for those things. Getting misty thinking about it.

As to #2, the panels on the Contemporary don't seem to be highly reflective with more of a matte metallic finish, not polished. Given its relatively low height, the sun would have to be pretty low in the sky anyway and would go behind the buildings to the west pretty quickly.

I am curious though, in other places the architects have to submit the results of reflective projections to insure against oppressive or dangerous reflection. Does that happen here?

Well, in Dallas there was a big problem because the of the reflection off of the residential tower by Clyde Warren Park. I think the sun was shining in on the Perot Museum if I remember right. Sorry, a little too lazy to look it up.

Last week rode by what must have been a soft opening. Space is smaller than what I was thinking.

Guess it opens for real tomorrow:

It was straight up melting some of the outdoor features at Perot. Craziest thing I’ve ever seen but as soon as you walk into the area you realized someone probably should have figured that out beforehand.

Flip side I don’t see these types of reflections at Contemporary I think because the vertical lines are angled so it glows more than it reflects.

I'm going here Friday and am looking forward to trying it out. After looking at the menu, unsurprisingly it's another copy cat of a Hillstone restaurant group restaurant, R&D Kitchen.

At first, I thought you just meant the layout/design of the menu (which restaurants hire out to create, so I was not surprised). But then I noticed the actual offerings are wildly similar....

Same with Bandera / Red Rock and Houston's / Charleston's. I'm sure there are more, but those are the two that always come to mind.

We went last night for dinner, and quickly went to the one of our top places for a date night. The Korean rib eye cap with kimchi fried rice was one of the better meals I have had this year. What really surprised me was how affordable it is for how nice the restaurant is. We went for a special occasion so splurged a little, but it was only $125 for a sushi roll, 2 entrees, 2 cocktails and a bottle of wine. We’ll be back soon and often. 16624

Wow, they're not even trying to hide it. Given how well they execute everything else I'm sure Jimmy B's will be very good. Hillstone is a very good restaurant group.

The Ted's/Hal Smith thread reminded me to post about Jimmy B's.

I have yet to go but I have friends that rave about the place. Universally excellent reviews on Yelp:

It’s pretty great. The space is super cozy and nice. Good patio. Nice bar. And the menu is a bit more upmarket and adventurous that a typical HSRG place (not knocking those “ol’ reliables”…I especially like RRCG).

This has become our go to pre-Thunder game spot, given its proximity to the Art Park streetcar stop. Everything that we've had is very solid and look forward to spending more time on the patio when it warms up.

Went to R+D Kitchen in Napa in the fall, which is supposedly the "inspiration" (putting it mildly) for Jimmy B's and they've done a great job of recreating the feel and menu of the place.

(Not knocking HSRG for this, btw, very few "original" concepts out there - especially in a market such as ours. Everything is derivative of something else. But it is funny how similar Jimmy B's is.)

I've only ordered a different entree once and regretted it... that's one of my favorite menu items in OKC.

Enjoyed a date night here! The Koren Beef Tenderloin was fantastic. My wife enjoyed the cocktails. The only thing lacking is the dessert!

From what we were informed, there burger is pretty expensive. Burger, fries, and a drink will run you close to $30. If the menu doesn't look appealing to you, I would go grab a burger elsewhere.

I personally love the menu and what it offers.
