Season tickets IMO will not be an easy sale. You know they are targeting all current and previous season ticket holders. Should see sales beef up once OKC's NBA draft pick for 2021-22 is selected; also the more the pandemic gets under control.

Like what I see in the rebuild post Westbrook era. These guys are young and hungry; they have really impressed me without the services of Veteran Al Horford on the court. Look for The Incredible Thinking Man (Sam Presti) to select another impact piece with a top five pick.

What has been more impressive is the culture Mark Daigneault has built and the direction he's taking this team. Absent is a lot of complaining and badgering of officials by Thunder players. Coach Daigneault is changing the climate & culture--taking full control of the team.

Actually, considering OKC has a 52/48 shot at getting Houston's pick means you could say they're winning at tanking. OKC would actually rather Houston be first than them.

Determining the NBA Draft Order

1 All teams missing the playoffs are in the Lottery
2 Teams with worse records get more chances at winning a top four pick (more ping pong ball combos)
3 The 1st overall pick is awarded by a drawing of ping pong balls
4 The 2nd overall pick is awarded by a drawing of ping pong balls
5 The 3rd overall pick is awarded by a drawing of ping pong balls
6 The 4th overall pick is awarded by a drawing of ping pong balls
7 Remaining lottery teams, sorted by record, fill out picks 5-14
8 Playoff teams, sorted by record, are assigned picks 15-30 - playoff seeds and outcomes have no impact
9 Random drawing decides who picks first between teams with same record
10 Tied lottery teams split their ping pong balls evenly, and any odd remainder and the better draft order position are given to the random
drawing winner
11 Second round is ordered by record without playoff consideration
12 Second round ties are in reverse order of the teams' first round picks

OKC's first round picks won't be determined until the lottery. They still have the possibility of getting Houston's first round pick if it is no. 5.

So true. The link IMO is tied to projections based on the number of pings--with the likely-hood favorable to the # of ping balls. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN... TBD on NBA Draft Night.

Yup, it increasingly seems likely that we’ll end up in a 3-way tie for third and split those odds. Maybe Orlando beats a resting 76ers team, but probably not.

https://sportsfly.cbsistatic.com/fly-270/bundles/sportsmediacss/images/league-logos/NBA.svg 2021 NBA Draft scouting reports: Strengths, weaknesses and player comparisons for projected lottery picks.

1. Cade Cunningham | 6-8, 220 | PG | Fr. | Oklahoma St.

Strengths

Great passing vision and guts to execute off what he sees
Reads, thinks the game at a high level
Excellent positional size
Good creation ability on offense with the ball in his hands, and can create space to get shots for himself and others
Devastatingly effective in isolation scenarios
Effective shooter and scorer
Multi-positional defender
Uses size to his advantage on both sides of the court

Weaknesses

Turnover-prone -- averaged more turnovers than assists at Oklahoma State
Came up big in clutch situations, but had notable late-game blunders in big moments either lacking awareness or forcing bad passes
Doesn't have elite first step or explosiveness to blow by defenders

2. Jalen Suggs | 6-4, 205 | SG | Fr. | Gonzaga

Strengths

Competitive, fiery guard whose motor always runs hot
Slasher who can get to the rim at will and finishes with both hands
Very good passer
Active rebounder who loves to crash the boards and run the break
Good shooter and creator who projects as franchise-caliber point guard

Weaknesses

Good shooter but 3-point shooting tailed off, hitting 33.7% from distance on 104 attempts
Playmaker on defense but sometimes takes ill-advised chances in effort to make homerun play

3. Evan Mobley | 7-0, 215 | C | Fr. | USC

Strengths

Uniquely talented big man with 7-foot frame and 7-4 wingspan
Fluid athlete who can drop his hips and defend multiple positions from post to perimeter
Elite defensive weapon who can block shots and anchor a defense
Talented scorer who can score in variety of ways

Weaknesses

Developing shooter: made 30% of 3-pointers at USC and was 69.4% free-throw shooter
Skinny, high center of gravity and still needs to add muscle to huge frame
4. Jalen Green | 6-5, 172 | SG | G League Ignite

Strengths

Can create and score as well as any prospect in this draft
Explosive, bouncy athlete who can finish above the rim
Modern-day NBA 2-guard because of his size, athleticism and scoring upside

Weaknesses

Improving passer, but room to develop outside of generating his own offense
Can sometimes settle for deep looks as opposed to driving into traffic to finish around the rim

5. Jonathan Kuminga | 6-8, 205 | SF | G League Ignite

Strengths

Great positional size, custom-fit as archetype of a modern-day wing
Oozing with potential as jumbo playmaker with craft and confidence to make plays off the dribble
Good finisher around the rim
Projectable, positionless defensive player who uses his size

Weaknesses

Made 16 of his 65 3-point attempts (24.6%) in the G League
Raw and largely unpolished on both ends
Needs to improve as a shooter on offense and with his awareness on defense in team constructs

We currently have a 13.3% at the no. one pick and a 47.9% at Houston's no. 5 pick.

To me, they seem like dependent events since the occurrence of the #1 pick going to OKC would increase the probability of Houston falling to the #5.

If the events were independent, you could just multiply the probabilities.

How will NBA draft lottery tiebreakers be decided?

The Oklahoma City Thunder are among teams who will have to wait to know exactly what odds they’ll have in the draft lottery. They are tied with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the fourth-worst record in the NBA.

https://bestanimations.com/Money/Coins/flipping-coin-animated-gif-1.gif?w=144

Oklahoma City, Cleveland and the other teams who have a record that is equal to another team’s will have their draft or lottery spot determined by a coinflip, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony. Givony tweeted that the coinflips will take place on May 25 early in the day.

I'm glad OKC won the last game of our regular season. It was good for the young players self worth. If finishing the season 3-25 in the final 28 games isn't bad enough for someone, then I don't know what to tell you.

On another note, they sold tickets last season also aiming at 25% and then we became the only single NBA team not to let fans in for any game. That's not something to be proud of.

dankrutka
05-23-2021, 02:41 PM
Disagree with both points. To the former point, winning or losing the last game of the season didn’t impact players’ “self-worth.” They beat a team intentionally trying to lose. Morale was good all season. OKC did a nice job of that. Winning that last game just hurt lottery odds…
