Why fired, this intersection was more than adequate when constructed years ago (40 plus). It's not the engineers who failed to keep up with the increase in traffic.

As others mentioned this has been updated in the past (40 plus years), so I stand by my statement.

You must not be familiar with the area. Earlywine GC's address is 11600 S. Portland. Look at a map. A big part of the problem on the east side is the l 44 NB off ramp and NB Portland come to 104th about 40 ft apart. There are times where it is impossible to turn west on 104th off of Portland.

Very familiar with the area...drive it several times a day as I live at 104th and MacArthur. Look at google maps. It shows Portland continuing south to 119th on the west side of I-44 all the way to SW 119th. What is odd and confusing is that there are two Portlands that connect with 119th. However, it appears that the one on the east side is I-44 service road running south from 104th and then turns to a parallel Portland on the east side halfway to SW 119th with one being on each side of I44

Portland SB ends on the west side at 10800 block and turns into l 44 Service Road until it hits SW 119th. On the east side it is exactly the opposite. l 44 Service Road SB until 10800 block (although there are no actual addresses in that stretch) and then it turns into Portland until it dead ends at 149th. So no, there are not two Portlands that connect to SW 119th.

When they put the WalMart in and extended the Service Road on the east side to go all the way from 89th to 104th they should've done three things. 1). Move the NB exit from l 44 to 104th south several 100 yards and have it connect to the Service Road thus there would only be one NB intersection onto 104th. 2) The NB on ramp to l 44 should come off the Service Road not have its own entry off of 104th, again eliminating another intersection. 3) Do the same thing with the NB exit onto 89th as I proposed on 104th i.e. have it connect to the Service Road. The east side is a cluster which has only been made worse by the addition of the two Amazon facilities.

The main problem is that Portland crosses from the west side to the east side of l 44 at this intersection.

That would make sense that they both switch over halfway up and makes Google maps wrong as they list it at Portland all the way down. I suspect that you are correct and google maps is wrong as far as two portlands and switching over half way through where I44 curves. We have gone down a rabbit hole that started with the comment it switches over at this intersection and it doesn't any more than saying it switches over at 119th. We are so far off topic that I ending conversation on my end with hoping you have a Merry Christmas and happy holidays.

The problem is that they did update Portland, but didn't do anything to the service road, I-44 on and off ramps, or diamond interchange intersections. If I recall, that service road that Walmart and other businesses are on didn't exist before Walmart came to town. They took the lazy/cheap approach and didn't bother properly tying the I-44 ramps to that service road, so you now have these intersections and in close proximity to each other. A lot of these Amazon workers probably stop by Walmart after work also.

I always figured this was a temporary thing, I think this even brought up on this forum way back before Amazon when we were talking about Walmart going in.

1) That would have an off-ramp that crosses over oncoming traffic.
2) That would have an on-ramp that crosses over two lanes of oncoming traffic.

You are just moving the intersections around. It would back up at those different intersections. The only way to change the crossovers would be if the service road was one-way, which doesn't look feasible.

If you were to re-do these intersections, something like this would minimize traffic cross-over (the most common cause of wrecks at intersections) while only having two lights. (One of the lights in that intersection could be removed with a slight modification to the roads). https://goo.gl/maps/2adfFpdKWCxPvsLu8 (This intersection only has one bi-directional road parallel with the interstate, but could be easily modified by mirroring the design to the other side to accommodate two bi-directional parallel roads). In the past 6 years, there have only been three accidents at this intersection, including the on and off ramps, there have only been 10 in the past 11 years.

With that setup, and slightly modified, Amazon employees would only have to go through one (1) traffic light to go NB on I44 from S Portland. But it would cost a lot to build. Not quite as much as the one pictured though since Oklahoma doesn't put in sidewalks so that will simplify the design.

Now, Mr. Jassy and his team are working to sublease at least 10 million square feet of excess warehouse space, defer construction of new facilities on land Amazon has bought and find ways to end or renegotiate leases with outside warehouse owners. He has closed down much of the company’s bricks-and-mortar retail operation—68 stores—and is looking to pare back its head count.

The Amazon 4-star brick-and-mortar at Classen Curve had the sign installed and was almost ready to open when the company pulled the plug on all such stores.

Pete, I saw a headline a couple of days ago (didn't get a chance to read it) that said Amazon is closing one of its warehouses here. What's all this about? Are we not buying enough from Amazon? Did they over expand?

It was a delivery station, there are still two others in the metro(DOK3 and DOK4).

Complete non-story.

It was a small, rented delivery warehouse.

The only reason the Oklahoman has covered this site (both when it was leased and now) was trying to make it look like they were on top of the various Amazon stories because we had completely clobbered them every time.

This was their smallest warehouse in the entire area and its closure means absolutely nothing.

The retail giant closed the 60,000-square-foot facility back in August.

This is a drop in the bucket compared to the other operations in the OKC Metro Area. The facility was out-of-date compared to other Amazon facilities
